Feral Druid DPS Statistics Priority and Reforging (WoW MoP 5.3)
In this article, we explain what the best statistics are for Feral Druids (WoW MoP 5.3), how the class benefits from each of them, and what your reforging strategy should be. We also detail what the various caps are and why they should be attained. The statistics priority is important as it influences reforging strategies as well as itemisation choices (gear, enchants, and gems).
Make sure to check our Gear Optimisation Guide, which serves as a support guide for this article.

1. Basics↑top
The stat priority for a Feral Druid is:
- Agility;
- Mastery Rating;
- Hit Rating and Expertise Rating (until 7.5% each);
- Critical Strike Rating;
- Haste Rating.
Note that if you have the
Rune of Re-Origination trinket, you will need
to set up your statistics in a particular way. We explain this below.
These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using Simulation Craft.
If you are unsure what the optimal reforging strategy is for the above priority, you can Ask Mr. Robot for a personalised optimisation of your character's gear, by filling the form below.
2. Getting a Better Understanding↑top
Agility is your primary statistic. You should look for it in all of your upgrades. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do, and it increases your critical strike chance.
Mastery Rating, through
Mastery: Razor Claws,
increases the damage of bleed effects.
Hit Rating decreases the chance that your melee attacks will miss their target (7.5% against a raid boss). Therefore, your goal is to reach the 7.5% hit cap (see section below), which will ensure that your attacks never miss.
Expertise Rating decreases the chance that your melee attacks will be dodged (7.5% against a raid boss). Therefore, your goal is to reach the 7.5% expertise cap (see section below), which will ensure that your attacks are never dodged. Note that you should always be attacking bosses from behind, which prevents them from parrying your attacks. Therefore, it is usually unnecessary (unless the boss cannot be attacked from behind) to decrease the chance that your attacks will be parried (something that you can do by stacking Expertise Rating after reaching the 7.5% cap).
Critical Strike Rating increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities.
Haste Rating increases attack speed and Energy regeneration.
2.1. Rune of Re-Origination
If you have the
Rune of Re-Origination trinket, then you should follow a
specific method of customising your secondary statistics.
The proc of this trinket calculates the sum of your three secondary statistics (Mastery Rating, Critical Strike Rating, and Haste Rating), and then adds this sum to the highest of your secondary statistics. When this happens, the other two secondary statistics are reduced to 0. The buff lasts 10 seconds, after which time your statistics return to normal. We will give you an example so you can better understand how this works.
If, before the proc, you have 8,000 Mastery Rating, 4,000 Critical Strike Rating, and 4,000 Haste Rating, then you will have the sum of your secondary stats (8,000 + 4,000 + 4,000 = 16,000) added to your current highest stat (Mastery Rating in this case). This will give you 24,000 Mastery Rating for 10 seconds. At the same time, your Critical Strike Rating and Haste Rating will be reduced to 0.
What you want to do is manipulate the trinket so that it provides you with Mastery while it procs, all while keeping your other two stats as close to your Mastery Rating as possible.
Specifically, your Mastery Rating should be your highest secondary statistic by as small a margin as possible, follow by Haste Rating, which should in turn be just marginally higher than Critical Strike Rating.
If you apply your bleed effects (which are affected by your Mastery) while the trinket proc is active, it will provide you with a DPS boost.
2.2. Hit Cap
At level 90, you need 2,550 Hit Rating to reach the melee hit cap.
2.3. Expertise Cap
At level 90, you need 2,550 Expertise Rating to reach the expertise cap.
