In Ashes of Creation, the Artisan system forms the backbone of Verra’s player-driven economy, blending Gathering, Processing, and Crafting into a seamless chain of collaboration.

1.

What is the Artisan System in Ashes of Creation?

The Artisan System in Ashes of Creation is what fuels the game's player-driven economy. Combining three different styles of professions to create an economy with a collaborative focus.

Artisan Professions are split into three different groups based on their roles. These are:

  • Gathering: Collecting materials such as stone and lumber across Verra.
  • Processing: Refine raw materials from Gathering to be used in Crafting.
  • Crafting: Creates important items using refined materials.

Profession Limits & Restrictions

Artisanship comes with a selection of restrictions to foster cooperation between players. This comes in the form of limits to the number of professions each player can be.

While every player can be a Novice in each of the 22 Professions, only five of those can be Apprentice. From there, only four can be a Journeyman, three Master and two Grandmaster. This means that 17 of your Professions will always be Novice.

Artisan Level Artisan Certification Profession Limit
1-10 Novice 22
10-20 Apprentice 5
20-30 Journeyman 4
30-40 Master 3
40-50 Grandmaster 2

Grandmaster Artisans are the only Artisan classes that will be able to max out their entire Skill Tree.

These Profession restrictions are per-character meaning that if you wanted, you could level up a collection of alts to Master everything. That being said, this is not advised. Instead, the aim is to cooperate with other players (primarily in a Guild) to supply materials and work on shared goals.

2.1.

Artisan Certifications

Artisan Certifications occur every 10 levels and allow you to upgrade your Profession to a new tier. This unlocks new tools, recipes and allows you to gather at better resource tiers. For example an Apprentice Miner can gather Emerald while Novice cannot.

Artisan Certification Promotions require you to interact with specific NPC's location around Verra once all requirements have been reached. You can also Demote a Profession if you want to instead focus on a different class.

2.2.

What Artisan Professions Should I Certify?

The best Professions for you to certify depend on your goals in game as well as the needs of your guild. With only 2 Artisan classes able to hit Grandmaster per account, guilds will need at least 11 players to cover all Professions.

If you are a solo-focused player focusing on Gathering Professions can be a great option due to them being self-sufficient. Other Professions will force you to purchase items from other players meaning you have to spend time on making money to sustain yourself.

3.

Gathering

Gathering professions focus on collecting raw materials from Verra’s open world such as stone, wood, fish and hunting animals. Gathering classes even have a selection of tools which grant access to different resources. Resources gathered also contribute to node development and hold up most of the artisan supply chain.

4.

Processing

Processing professions refine raw materials into usable components for crafting. These Artisan Classes use special processing stations such as a Lumber Mill or Smithy in nodes, villages or freeholds, requiring fuel and time to refine materials. As a result, processing often takes up the majority of time simply waiting for materials to be refined.

5.

Crafting

Crafting professions produce gear, weapons, scrolls and most finished items. Recipes for crafting are unlocked via quests and drops. Crafters rely on Gatherers and Processors for materials, while their finished crafts impact player power and the economy.
