Ashes of Creation Alpha 2 Expands in 2025 – What is Next?

Ashes of Creation continues its Alpha 2 testing in 2025, with big updates planned as the game moves into its next phase of development. Over 130,000 players have already tested the game, and new features, world expansion, and core gameplay adjustments are all in progress.

Steven Sharif recently answered some questions from the community in an interview with TheLazyPeon. Here are some highlights of what is happening and what you can expect.

Alpha 2 Progress and Future Phases

  • Phase 1 (Oct–Dec 2024): Focused on network stability, with servers active three days per week.
  • Phase 2 (Ongoing – May 2025): Extended to five-day server uptime, working on world-building and core gameplay.
  • Phase 3 (Coming May 2025 and beyond): Servers will be up seven days a week, and the full feature set will begin rolling out over the next year.

According to Steven Sharif, Ashes of Creation has entered one of its most critical development stages. While 70–80% of core gameplay loops are present, only 20–30% of the full content has been implemented. The focus now is on filling out world systems, adding quests, story arcs, crafting systems, and improving combat mechanics.

What is Being Developed Right Now?

  • Node System Expansion: You will soon be able to experience fully finished towns with mayor elections, trade, and player-driven economy.
  • More Open-World Features: The game recently hit 6,000 concurrent players on 5 servers, running on one Unreal Engine, which was a huge milestone for its large-scale MMO world.
  • Siege Testing: Hundreds of players are already testing PvP sieges, where nodes can be destroyed, turning into PvP battlegrounds filled with loot.
  • New Class Updates: The Rogue archetype is in development, taking about four months to bring it up to compete with other classes.
  • Graphical Improvements: While visuals have improved over time, the team is continuously working on lighting, textures, and environmental effects.

Long Road Ahead, But Progress Is Steady

While there is still a lot of work to be done, Ashes of Creation is steadily growing toward a complete MMO experience. The game is not just about world-building, it is also about creating player-driven systems that shape the dynamic in-game.
