Primary and Secondary Archetypes
The way the class system is currently planned in Ashes of Creation is that each player chooses their primary archetype upon character creation (which is permanent), and then they’ll later choose a secondary archetype at level 25 (which can be changed – at a cost). Combining a primary and secondary archetype will determine your class, leading to the total number of 64 unique classes that will be available in the game.

Every secondary archetype is planned to modify your core skills, meaning that two players with the same primary archetypes can feel completely different depending on their secondary archetype. More information on the effects of these secondary archetypes will be shared in Alpha Two Phase Three.
The Best Class in Ashes of Creation
The answer to what the “best” class in Ashes of Creation is likely different for everyone, and to be honest, there isn’t a true answer. At the end of the day, the best class will be the class that you have the most fun playing, which might be determined by your playstyle.
Do you like to support your allies, or dish of major damage to foes?

Based on the poll results, it seems like there generally is a lot of interest in DPS-related classes (especially Ranged DPS), with less players generally being interested in Support and Tank roles.
Understanding the Class System in Ashes of Creation
Ashes of Creation is still very much in development, but there is already a lot of information available today about the class system. Players can already jump in, create an account, and start playing the Alpha version of the game to get a better look and feel of each class, along with the unique skills available for each.
