Intrepid Studios has officially launched the first iteration of the Naval System in Ashes of Creation, now available for testing in Alpha Two. This huge update expands the Turquoise Sea, introduces Caravels, and adds new naval combat mechanics. Players can now set sail, participate in ship-based battles, and explore the oceanic regions.
First Look at the Naval System
The introduction of ships is an important step toward a more immersive world. Currently, the only available ship type is the Caravel, which can be purchased at a Harbor Master for an Oak Ship Hull and 50 gold. Launching a ship costs 10 silver, and each Caravel comes equipped with a steering wheel for navigation and four Potion Launchers for combat.
Naval Combat and Mechanics

- Potion Launchers – Ships feature two launchers on each side (port and starboard), allowing you to fire explosive projectiles with an 80m range and 10,000 damage per hit.
- Manual Aiming – Unlike traditional target-based attacks, you must manually aim shots, factoring in projectile trajectory.
- Ship Handling – The Caravel moves realistically, featuring momentum-based navigation that makes it less maneuverable than rafts but significantly faster.
- Immersive Sound Design – The wooden hull creaks while sailing, adding to the realism of the experience.
Expanded Ocean and New Gatherables

With the Turquoise Sea expansion, players will find new islands, mobs, and gatherables. Some of the newly introduced resources include:
- Volcanic Rock & Dead Coral (mining)
- Plumeria & Coconut Trees (logging)
- Dina, Giant Fern & Elephant Ear Plants (herbalism)
Future of the Naval System
This first iteration represents the groundwork for an expansive oceanic ecosystem. Future updates are expected to bring more ship types, trading routes, and large-scale naval battles. You can already use ships for exploration, combat, and resource gathering, but more mechanics, such as ship customization and events, are on the horizon.
For now, players can test the Caravel and naval combat in the Alpha Two servers. As testing progresses, Intrepid Studios welcomes feedback and bug reports to refine the experience before the full launch.
