Relics in Ashes of Creation Are Powerful – And Extremely Rare

The latest Ashes of Creation development update livestream gave us a closer look at Relics, and they are clearly going to be one of the game’s most important systems, especially for node progression, regional control, and large-scale PvP.

Relics are not just stat boosts or minor buffs. They are rare, powerful, and in some cases, completely unique to a single server. If you are a mayor running a top-tier node, or a guild focused on world domination, relics are going to be a very important part of your long-term strategy.

What Do Relics Actually Do?

Each relic provides both passive and active effects to the node that owns it:

  • Passive bonuses apply automatically just by holding the relic.
  • Active powers must be triggered by the node’s mayor using a special resource called Essence.

Nodes only have a limited supply of Essence, so you will need to make real decisions about which relics to activate and when, especially during sieges or regional conflicts.

Some Relics Are One-of-a-Kind

Relics will be very hard to acquire, but what makes them even more interesting is that some are completely unique per server. That means only one node can ever own that specific relic in the entire world!

Others might have a few duplicates, but they will still be extremely limited. That rarity makes them high-value targets for:

  • Node sieges – Relics can be stolen if your node falls
  • Political power plays – Expect alliances and betrayals
  • Caravan raids – Intercept them during transport
  • World exploration and PvP – Some relics may be hidden in high-risk areas

These are not rewards you just stumble into; you will need to fight, trade, or explore for them, and holding onto one will be just as hard as finding it.

Linked to Caravans and PvP Conflict

Relics are also connected to caravan systems and PvP conflict. Once acquired, they need to be physically transported via caravans and added to your node’s inventory. This makes them vulnerable during transit and creates openings for ambushes. If your node is successfully sieged, relics can be stolen, which raises the stakes during big wars.

Still in Early Testing

Relics are currently being tested in Alpha Two, and the system is expected to evolve as more feedback comes in. Balance, acquisition methods, and long-term impact are all still being adjusted, but the direction is already obvious: Relics are not just another collectible. They are designed to be one of the most competitive and impactful systems in Ashes of Creation, and you may never even see one unless your node becomes a major power.
