Ashes of Creation Alpha Test PvP Tier List

Last updated on Feb 12, 2025 at 00:00 by Crix

Welcome to the Icy Veins PvP Tier List for Ashes of Creation. The following page contains insight into archetype balance from some of the best players in the community, focusing specifically on the PvP meta during the Alpha test phase.

1.

Tier List Forward

The following tier list is based on extensive Group PvP battles (since this game is not balanced for dueling), multiple PvP tournaments, taking into consideration how grouped PvP works and each of the Archetypes utility, damage, crowd control and support. While this is a list, please take it with a grain of salt. Ashes of Creation is largely a skill based game, meaning player skill will almost always beat out a better Archetype. This is a group game and all about group synergy, so pick whatever Archetype that fits your playstlye and that you enjoy playing, regardless of the placement.

Please note that anything stated on this page is not only writer opinion, but everything is subject to change. Ashes of Creation is in it's Alpha testing phase and the Archetypes and game are constantly receiving buffs and nerfs. This list will always be up to date with the current state of the game. If you have a different opinion, that is perfectly fine. Feel free to leave feedback through any of the author's socials, listed on the right side of the page under the bio.

Bard

Bard is one of the best Archetypes in the game. No other class comes even remotely close to the Bard when it come to utility. They're a powerful support Archetype that enhances your raid through a ton of buffs, debuffs, some slight healing and a ton of crowd control. While they don't deal too much damage and only have a couple heals, their ability to significantly buff your raid members and chain CC enemies makes them invaluable in all PvP scenarios. They have arguably the most impact when it comes to survivabilty and team synergy. Group PvP is borderline impossible without a Bard, making them a highly saught after archetype.

3.

Mage

The Mage is the purest form of a high risk, high reward glass cannon that thrives on AoE, burst damage and flanking. They're capable of deleting an enemy, or a group of enemies, in an instant, making them the most sought after DPS for all PvP. However, all this power comes with the expected squishiness that you'd expect from a caster. Mages do come with Blink and the Shell, for the quick escape and the absorb, but if you can't get away, you get chunked by everything. Luckily you can (and should) wear heavy armor that will not only make you less squishy, but give you more health! As mentioned, if you leave a Mage unchecked, it can flank and wipe entire groups.

4.

Fighter

The Fighter is an extremely fun and aggressive class. It thrives on fast-paced, high-impact gameplay and rewards you for chaining abilities together for devastating combos. When all the stars align, Fighters have the potential to one-shot opponents, making them a deadly force in PvP. However, their strength comes at a cost; they must remain up close and in the thick of battle, exposing themselves to enemies from everyone slamming midfield. Unlike their melee counterpart, the Tank, Fighters lack strong defensive tools or sustain, making them vulnerable to crowd control and incoming damage.

5.

Cleric

The Cleric is another Archetype that is absolutely mandatory for any PvP scenario. This is the main healer in the game and the only archetype that has a healing toolkit. With multiple types of heals to cover any and all situations. Clerics are also the only archetype in the game that can resurrect people, and they can do it in combat! As expected from a healer, their damage is on the lower end, however they're excellent at staying alive due to how strong their heals are. For all those reasons listed, you are the main kill target in all PvP combat. If left alone, Clerics will keep everyone alive, but if you kill them, the fight ends shortly after.

6.

Tank

Tanks in PvP, just like in PvE, are still the frontline defenders, specializing in crowd control and damage mitigation. The primary role is to control engagements, absorb damage, harass the enemy line, shield your raid from harm and of course Grapple low HP enemies in for death. Tanks can help initiate combat, disrupt the enemy, peel for your friends and ensure they stay alive. They may not be able to do as much damage as some, but they make up for it with great utility and tankiness. A good Tank can single handedly dictate the pace of a group fight, forcing all of their enemies to waste their resources while creating tons of opportunities of your raid to get kills.

7.

Ranger

The Ranger is a deadly ranged physical damage archetype that specializes in mobility, long ranged combat and the most coveted ability, Vine Field. Paired with the ability to deal consistent pressure from further distances makes them not only harder kill, but a serious threat in group PvP. Rangers excel in positioning, kiting and punishing anyone who over-extends. However, you rely largely upon keeping that distance, because when caught in close combat, they start to struggle due to their severe lack of defensive tools. That being said, a good Ranger can control the encounter before enemies even get close, making them an extremely dangerous and great choice for PvP.
