The items listed above showcase some of the best gear options currently available for Tanks. Depending on your server, some crafting stations may not support the creation of Legendary-quality gear. It's important to note that as the quality of the gear increases, so does the stats, however, the overall cost of legendary materials may not be worth the investment based on the end result. In some cases, it may be easier to settle with Heroic or Epic quality as long as you pick-up the primary stats for your build.

Increasing the power of your gear by using Journeyman Enchanting Scroll may not be feasibile due to various reasons. Early on a server you may not have the required station to craft high quality versions of the gear above. When the Journeyman gear is not available or feasibile, we recommend getting solid Apprentice level gear and use Apprentice Enchanting Scrolls which are not only cheaper to buy but the enchant cost of apprentice gear is lower than the cost of journeyman gear. If you really want to min/max and become as strong as possible, you'll want to enchant your Journeyman Gear.

2.

Stat Priority

When selecting gear, it's important to ensure you understand the most important stats to priortize as a Tank. If you are focusing on a more offensive build, you'll want to focus Strength and stats that increase Physical Power, Crit, and Penetration. A mitigation focused build cannot ignore Strength, but would choose a few options that provide high survivability like Rock Necklace, Emerald Earring and Malevolent Mound's Ring which focus Constitution and flat mitigation.

When choosing your gear, you should prioritize these attribute stats in the following order:

  1. Strength – Each point gives you 3 Physical Power Rating, 1 Physical Accuracy Rating, and 1 Physical Penetration Rating. This is your top priority.
  2. Dexterity – Each point gives you 2 Physical Critical Chance Rating, 2 Physical Attack Speed Rating, and 1 Physical Evasion Rating. When you find gear that has both Strength and Dexterity, it's worth investing in.
  3. Constitution – Each point gives you 10 Max Health, 2 Armor, and 1 Physical Critical Avoidance Rating. This is extremely helpful for overall survivability in both PvE and PvP content.
  4. Mentality – Each point gives you 16 Max Mana, 2 Magic Resist and 1 Magical Critical Avoidance Rating.

Additional Advice

Ashes of Creation is very much a PvX game, the strongest players will always be the ones who participate in all aspects of the game. If you want to be the guy who only PVPs, you will have a hard time maximizing your gear and eventually will start losing simply to a gear gap. That being said, make sure you always keep your gathering professions up, by keeping high gathering professions you will be able to get the required materials to have your BIS items crafted. Caravans are also an important event, this is really the only way to generate gold into the in-game economy, find a strong community and regularly run caravans so you can purchase the items you can't gather yourself.
