Brighter Shores Experiences Leaderboard Issues!

After the latest updates made to leaderboards, Brighter Shores creator Andrew Gower expressed himself on the unnecessary negative feedback coming from a vocal minority of the community. Here is a breakdown of the latest patch notes and a recap of the controversy.

Latest Patch Notes: January 14th & 15th, 2025

Quality of Life Improvements

  • The maximum distance you can click to walk on the map is now restricted to a circle instead of a number of rooms. This is so the distance doesn’t vary depending on the room size, so it is easier to tell how far away you can click. The circle is displayed as an overlay on the map.

Bug Fixes

  • Recenter the map upon teleport to the infirmary after death.
  • Fix the portrait of one of the female sparring guards.
  • Fix refresh timer incorrectly showing on shop confirm interface in Bladrick’s Armory.
  • Dying at the exact same time as a NPC will no longer leave you stuck dying repeatedly.

Leaderboards Improvement

  • Players no longer need to opt-in to the leaderboards to be ranked, meaning all players will have a true rank. To comply with privacy laws in various countries, players can still choose to appear as ‘Anonymous Player’ on the leaderboards.
  • If you choose to appear as an ‘Anonymous Player’ on the leaderboards, your total level will not be shown to nearby players and you will not be able to view the leaderboards.

Addressing Leaderboard Feedback

Following the recent leaderboard changes, Andrew Gower posted about the excessive negative feedback directed at the team. Although the original tweet has been deleted, a screenshot of the post can still be found on Reddit:

The Brighter Shores team wants to make leaderboards enjoyable for competitive players while respecting the privacy of those who prefer to stay anonymous. While the system may not be perfect, this option provides a balance that takes both sides of the community into account without negatively impacting gameplay for anyone.
