Why You Should Always Start Fights With a Ranged Weapon!

Since Brighter Shores launched earlier this month, players have been actively discussing the game’s combat mechanics. In one such discussion, Reddit user Hammermage shared some fantastic tips and tricks to help both beginners and seasoned players alike! Let’s get right to it!

Beginner Tips:

Initiate the fight with Ranged Attacks: Start your fights with your ranged weapon to get a few free shots in against melee enemies. After that, switch to your melee weapon to finish the fight.

Strategic Retreat: If you do not have a clear HP advantage halfway through the fight, use the immunity spell to disengage and restart. This saves you from risking a 50/50 chance of losing and wasting time walking back after a defeat.

Advanced Tips:

  • Movement During Combat:
    • Ranged Combat: Move backwards during ranged attacks to get 1-2 extra shots in before the enemy reaches you.
    • Melee Combat: Move backward if your enemy has a higher attack speed. After hitting the enemy, move back. Let the enemy catch up, hit them again, and repeat. This forces the enemy to match your attack speed, reducing the damage you take. However, you should avoid this tactic if you have a higher attack speed with a one-handed weapon.
  • Attack Speed: You can determine if an enemy has a higher attack speed after they hit you 3-4 times by observing their attack timing versus yours.

Additional Tips:

  • Carry HP Potions and use them in emergencies to offset bad luck or during boss fights. They are not cost-effective for constant use but can save you in critical moments.
  • Use the terrain to your advantage and shoot over or through obstacles. NPCs take longer to navigate around, giving you more shots. Make the most of your rare, epic, or legendary bows by landing all your ranged shots before switching to melee combat.

Hopefully, these tips will help you make your combat encounters less dependent on luck and more about strategy! In any case, enjoy your journey through Brighter Shores, and good luck with mastering everything the game has to offer! And remember, this is just the beginning. The game is still in early access, and there is much more to come.
