Strategy for Cho'gall
The main mechanic of this fight is the entire raid needing to deal with the Corrupted Blood. Taking damage from abilities during this fight will increase your Corrupted Blood level, inflicting increasingly bad debuffs the higher your corruption and causing you to take 3% additional damage from Corruption of the Old God for each stack of corruption. At 25 Corrupted Blood, you will get Corruption: Accelerated, a dispellable DoT that will quickly increase your Corrupted Blood if it is not removed. At 50 Corrupted Blood you will periodically vomit from Corruption: Sickness, dealing Shadow damage to all allies in front of you; be sure to move and face away from others when this happens to you. At 75 Corrupted Blood you will sprout a Corruption: Malformation out of your back, shooting Shadow Bolts at nearby allies; if you reach 75 corruption move away from others. At 100 Corrupted Blood you will be afflicted by Corruption: Absolute, becoming unhealable, but dealing double damage and all of your spells will be instant cast.
Corruption amounts per spell:
- Corruption: Accelerated — 2 per second.
- Corruption: Sickness — 5 if hit.
- Depravity — 10
- Corrupting Crash — 10
- Debilitating Beam — 2 per second.
- Spilled Blood of the Old God — 5 per second while standing in it.
- Blood of the Old God — 2 per melee.
- Festering Blood — 5
- Corruption of the Old God — 1 per tick.
In phase one Cho'gall will alternate between Flame's Orders and Shadow's Orders. Flame's Orders buffs him with Flaming Destruction, adding Fire damage to his auto attacks and causes them to spawn a Blaze at a random nearby location. Shadow's Orders buffs him with Empowered Shadows causing him to deal high Shadow damage to all players every three seconds. Avoid the Blaze fire patches and rotate healer cooldowns to survive the Empowered Shadows AoE ticks. On heroic difficulty, Cho'gall will spawn a Fire Elemental before using Flame's Orders, and a Shadow Lord before using Shadow's Orders. Shortly after he will absorb them, gaining one additional stack of either Flaming Destruction or Empowered Shadows for every 10% health the add had remaining. You can essentially ignore the Fire Elemental, only dealing some minor cleave damage to it, but all of your DPS must swap over to the Shadow Lord to get it as low as possible to reduce the raid-wide AoE damage from Empowered Shadows.
Tanks will need to alternate tanking Cho'gall every 1-2 stacks of Fury of Cho'gall as it increases your Shadow and Physical damage taken by 20% per stack. Cho'gall will periodically use Conversion, forcing multiple players to buff him with Twisted Devotion, increasing all of his damage dealt by 5% per stack for 1 minute. You must quickly interrupt or crowd control these players to break this cast and free them from the mind control.
Occasionally throughout phase one Cho'gall will spawn a Corrupting Adherent, 2 on heroic difficulty. Whoever is not currently tanking Cho'gall must pick these up and tank them far away from the raid, but be sure not to run out of range from your healers. The Corrupting Adherents will often cast Depravity, dealing massive Shadow damage to all nearby players and increasing Corrupted Blood by 10; make sure you always interrupt this cast. They will also constantly use Corrupting Crash, lobbing a Shadow projectile at a random location in the room. Quickly move away from these as they deal very high Shadow damage and increase your Corrupted Blood. When a Corrupting Adherent dies it will drop a pool of Spilled Blood of the Old God at its location, dealing damage to anyone in the area; make sure these are not near the raid before they die. Your raid will need to frequently move during this part of the fight as there will be Blaze fires all over the floor as well as the constant Corrupting Crashes occurring.
30 seconds after the Corrupting Adherents spawn, Cho'gall will cast Fester Blood. This will buff any Corrupting Adherents that are alive with Festering Blood, causing them to deal massive AoE Shadow damage to all nearby players every two seconds. It will also fester the pools of Spilled Blood of the Old God, causing them to spawn a wave of Blood of the Old God oozes that move towards the raid to spread corruption. These must be slowed down and quickly AoE'd by your range DPS before they can reach the raid group. The raid will constantly swap between hitting Shadow Lords, killing Corrupting Adherents, AoEing the Blood of the Old Gods, and slowly whittling down Cho'gall until he reaches 25% health and phase two starts.
At 25% Cho'gall will transform into his true form, absorbing any remaining Corrupting Adherents and pools of Spilled Blood of the Old God; if you are close to transitioning to phase two you will want to ignore the adds and push as they will all despawn. Tanks will still need to swap due to Fury of Cho'gall. He will frequently spawn in both Darkened Creation and Spiked Tentacle around the room. DPS must interrupt and quickly kill the Darkened Creations as they will cast Debilitating Beam on a random player, greatly hindering them. Simply move away from the Spiked Tentacles to avoid their damage and knockback and ignore them as they have too much health to kill.
This phase is a pure DPS race against the clock as Cho'gall will constantly attack the raid with Corruption of the Old God, dealing damage to everyone and increasing their Corrupted Blood levels. The damage of Corruption of the Old God increases by 3% for each Corrupted Blood you have, making this a DPS race as you will take more and more damage the longer you are in this phase. Save all major DPS cooldowns for this, and rotate as many raid-wide defensive cooldowns and healer cooldowns as you can towards the end of the fight.
