On this page, you will learn how to optimize the rotation of your Enhancement Shaman in both single-target and multi-target PvE situations in Cataclysm Classic. We also have advanced sections about cooldowns, procs, etc. in order to minmax your DPS.

1.

Enhancement Shaman Rotations

If you have not already, we recommend going through the Spell Summary guide first. Knowing how each spell and ability works in detail will greatly increase your understanding of the rotation suggestions below.

1.1.

Single-Target Rotation

Make sure to keep your buff totems active and in range of party members at all times, use the Windfury Weapon Icon Windfury Weapon weapon imbue on your main-hand weapon and Flametongue Weapon Icon Flametongue Weapon on your off-hand weapon, and keep Lightning Shield Icon Lightning Shield buffed on yourself.

The priority list for Enhancement Shaman is as follows:

  1. Use and maintain the Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock debuff;
  2. Keep Searing Totem Icon Searing Totem active and shooting;
  3. Cast Stormstrike Icon Stormstrike on cooldown;
  4. Use Lava Lash Icon Lava Lash on cooldown;
  5. Cast Lightning Bolt Icon Lightning Bolt when you hit 3+ Maelstrom Weapon Icon Maelstrom Weapon stacks, making sure to finish casting it before your next auto-attack;
  6. Use Unleash Elements Icon Unleash Elements on cooldown;
  7. Use Earth Shock Icon Earth Shock if nothing else applies.
1.2.

AoE Rotation

Against multiple enemies follow the single-target rotation, but swap Lightning Bolt Icon Lightning Bolt for Chain Lightning Icon Chain Lightning against 2 enemies.

If facing 3 or more, use Fire Nova Icon Fire Nova on cooldown once you have 3+ targets with Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock, courtesy of Improved Lava Lash Icon Improved Lava Lash spreading mechanic.

Finally, when fighting 5 or more enemies for an extended period of time, swap to Glyph of Chain Lightning Icon Glyph of Chain Lightning ahead of time for maximum damage!

2.

Cooldowns

Feral Spirit Icon Feral Spirit is your main DPS cooldown and should be used on cooldown if it will be able to attack targets for its full duration. Try to also stack it with temporary buffs from trinket procs, Bloodlust Icon Bloodlust / Heroism Icon Heroism and Potion of the Tol'vir Icon Potion of the Tol'vir.

Fire Elemental Totem Icon Fire Elemental Totem is not very strong for Enhancement due to Searing Totem Icon Searing Totem being a huge damage boost with the Searing Flames Icon Searing Flames and Improved Lava Lash Icon Improved Lava Lash talents, thus it will mostly be used in area damage situations.

Shamanistic Rage Icon Shamanistic Rage is both your main defensive and a Mana conservation tool. Due to its very short 1-minute cooldown you can use it on cooldown for the most part, but make sure to delay its usage whenever there will be high raid damage mechanics coming up shortly.

Remember to use your utility abilities as well:

  • Bloodlust Icon Bloodlust / Heroism Icon Heroism for a massive temporary raid Haste buff;
  • Earthbind Totem Icon Earthbind Totem to slow nearby enemies and allow for kiting;
  • Wind Shear Icon Wind Shear to help interrupt important casts;
  • Maelstrom Weapon Icon Maelstrom Weapon stacks can be used to cast heals such as Healing Rain Icon Healing Rain, if needed.
