Cataclysm Classic Fishing Profession and Leveling Guide

Fishing is one of the four secondary professions available to all players in Cataclysm Classic. As it is a secondary profession, it can be learned by all players without conflicting with other professions. Fishing can be useful early on to provide yourself with free food while leveling, or to make gold at level cap.

Fishing goes great when paired together with Cooking as you can use most of the fish you catch while fishing to level your cooking at the same time, leveling 2 professions for free at once.

In Cataclysm, you no longer need to visit different trainers to learn new ranks of Fishing. Every trainer will now be able to each you all ranks in any major city.

Cataclysm also adds profession trainers in each starting zone, allowing you to pick up a profession right away rather than needing to reach a major city first.

Fishing is a fairly easy, but time-consuming profession to level. You should try to level it alongside Cooking, as a large portion of what you fish up can be used to keep your cooking skill at a similar level to your fishing skill. These two professions go hand-in-hand together.

Wrath of the Lich King changed Fishing, allowing you to level your Fishing skill in any water where you can cast your line. This allows you to easily sit at the Fishing trainer in a capital city and level from 1-550 in a single spot, no longer needing to travel from zone-to-zone every few levels. This is the recommended leveling method as it saves plenty of travel time and allows you to quickly increase your Fishing skill.

In addition to your raw Fishing Skill, you can further increase your skill by using specific items, enchantments, gear, and consumables. These items will give you either a temporary or permanent Fishing Skill increase, increasing the chance that you will catch a fish rather than simply random junk. When leveling Fishing or even farming, it is highly recommended to grab as many of these Fishing Skill improvements as possible.

A fishing pole is one of the easiest ways to gain an increase to your Fishing skill. Arcanite Fishing Pole remains the best-in-slot fishing pole in the game, but requires you to win the Stranglethorn Vale fishing tournament to obtain it, making it rare. Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole is a close alternative option that can be obtained much more easily as The Kaluak is an easy faction to gain reputation for by simply doing a couple of daily quests every day for a few weeks.

Fishing Lures are one the easiest and best ways to temporarily gain a large increase to your Fishing skill. Make sure to bring plenty of these with you before you head out on a fishing trip or you may run out before you finish.

• Captain Rumsey's Lager — While not a fishing lure, still an easy way to get + 10 Fishing Skill for 3 minutes.
• Shiny Bauble — + 25 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Trade and Fishing Supplies vendors.
• Nightcrawlers — + 50 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Trade and Fishing Supplies vendors.
• Bright Baubles — + 75 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Trade and Fishing Supplies vendors.
• Aquadynamic Fish Attractor — + 100 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Fishing Supplies vendors in limited quantities.
• Feathered Lure — + 100 Fishing for 10 minutes — Crafted by Cooking.
• Heat-Treated Spinning Lure — + 150 Fishing for 15 minutes — Crafted by Engineering.

Cataclysm brings 15 new Fishing daily quests for each faction. Each day you will be offered one quest from each of the quest givers in your faction specific major cities. You however can only complete 1 of these in total, simply choose the best one out of your 3 options. These quests reward you with Bag of Shiny Things upon completion, giving you a handful of unique fishing rewards.

Master Angler of Azeroth	Win the Booty Bay fishing contest or The Kaluak Fishing Derby.
Accomplished Angler	Complete the fishing achievements listed below.
