Strategy for Majordomo Staghelm
This fight revolves around managing the multiple buffs that Majordomo Staghelm has, along side his 2 shape-shifter forms, Cat Form and Scorpion Form, which activate depending on your raids positioning. Scorpion Form will activate when at least 7 (10-man) or 18 (25-man) raid members are stacked together; this form will remain active as long as these requirements are met. Cat Form will activate whenever Scorpion Form requirements are not met; after every third form shift, Majordomo Staghelm will return to his Night Elf form briefly.
Each time Majordomo Staghelm changes forms, he gains a stack of Fury, increasing all damage dealt by 8% per stack. This acts as a soft-enrage and prevents the raid from simply skipping an undesirable form. While in either Scorpion Form or Cat Form, Majordomo Staghelm will slowly gain energy, up to 100. At 100 energy he will use a special ability depending on which form he is in (more on this later). Each time Majordomo Staghelm uses a special ability he gains a stack of Adrenaline, increasing his energy regeneration by 20% per stack. This quickly leads to Staghelm using his forms special ability more and more often the longer he stays in one form; Adrenaline stacks are reset whenever Majordomo Staghelm changes forms.
Below you can find a list of times for how long it will take Majordomo Staghelm to reach 100 energy depending on how many stacks of Adrenaline he currently has.
Adrenaline Stacks | Time to 100 Energy |
---|---|
0 | 18 Seconds |
1 | 12 Seconds |
2 | 10 Seconds |
3 | 8 Seconds |
4 | 7 Seconds |
5 | 6 Seconds |
6 | 5 Seconds |
7 | 4 Seconds |
Concentration is the only new mechanic added into heroic difficulty; this buff allows players to gain an increasing amount of damage and healing output as long as they can avoid taking damage. Maintaining this buff for as long as possible on your DPS is a major requirement to beating the enrage timer on heroic difficulty. While you can't do anything about Cat Forms ability, Flame Scythe in Scorpion Form can be handled in one of two ways. Firstly, you can choose to simply have your top 3 or 4 DPS not soak Flame Scythe and allow them to maintain maximum Concentration stacks. Alternatively depending on how geared you are, you can choose to end Scorpion Form early by spreading back out after only a few Flame Scythes, and with enough gear you can even skip some Scorpion Form transformations altogether.
Concentration Stacks | Damage & Healing Increase |
---|---|
0‐24 | 0% |
25‐49 | 25% |
50‐74 | 50% |
75‐99 | 75% |
100 | 100% |
The first form we'll talk about is Scorpion Form; this form can be activated by having at least 7 (10-man) or 18 (25-man) raid members stack together. Every time Majordomo Staghelm reaches 100 energy while in Scorpion Form he will use Flame Scythe, dealing deadly Fire damage in a frontal-cone attack. Luckily the damage from Flame Scythe is divided evenly between all targets hit by the attack, requiring your raid group to stack up together in front of the boss to survive this form.
With low stacks of Adrenaline the Scorpion Form is very easy as your healers will have plenty of time to top the raid up; but once Adrenaline reaches 3 or 4 stacks your healers will begin to struggle to keep the raid full health. Coordinate raid-wide defensive cooldowns for the later Flame Scythes and be ready to quickly spread out to pull Majordomo Staghelm out of Scorpion Form whenever the healers can no longer keep up with the damage.
Whenever the raid is not stacked together, Cat Form will be active. When Majordomo Staghelm reaches 100 energy while in Cat Form he will use Leaping Flames, jumping on a random player and covering the landing area in deadly fire, as well as spawning a Spirit of the Flame at his previous location. These Spirit of the Flames hit rather hard and need to be quickly killed to prevent too many from spawning and overwhelming your tank and healers.
Have the raid spread out around the room as much as possible to avoid Leaping Flames from hitting more than 1 player at a time. The fire patches left behind by Leaping Flames last for 1-minute and will kill players in the area in only a few seconds, so be sure to quickly move out and away from any fire left on the ground. In addition to the flames, each time Leaping Flames is used a Spirit of the Flame will spawn; while these have no abilities, they do hit fairly hard and will spawn in more and more frequently as Majordomo Staghelm gains stacks of Adrenaline and uses Leaping Flames more and more. Melee DPS should prioritize killing Spirit of the Flames as soon as possible as they hit fairly hard and will quickly overwhelm the tank once Adrenaline stacks are high; stick in Cat Form as long as your DPS can handle the adds spawning in, stack back together once you start to become overwhelmed.
Majordomo Staghelm will also enter his Night Elf form after 3 shapeshifts between Cat Form and Scorpion Form. Once in his Night Elf form, Majordomo Staghelm will immediately stun the entire raid with Fiery Cyclone and use either Searing Seeds or Burning Orbs depending on what his last form was. If going from Scorpion Form → Night Elf form, Majordomo Staghelm will cast Searing Seeds and then enter Scorpion Form. If going from Scorpion Form → Night Elf form, Majordomo Staghelm will cast Burning Orbs and then enter Cat Form. These new abilities will need to be handled now on-top of the previous abilities from each individual form.
The first combo that we will look at is Searing Seeds → Scorpion Form. With this setup the entire raid (besides the tank) will get a Searing Seeds debuff with a random debuff timer, which explodes for massive raid-wide damage whenever the timer expires. With the Searing Seeds debuff timer being completely random and different for each player, people will need to be constantly moving in and out of the group to soak Flame Scythe while they can, and moving their Searing Seeds out when the debuff timer is low. Keep an eye on your debuff timer and be sure to move out before the debuff explodes as this will wipe the raid. Searing Seeds debuffs can be removed with immunities such as Divine Shield, but will still deal damage to any nearby allies, so be sure to move away first still.
The second combo is when Majordomo Staghelm uses Burning Orbs → Cat Form. This will create 2 Burning Orbs randomly in the area which apply a stacking damage-over-time debuff to the nearest enemy. This Fire DoT will quickly ramp-up the damage it deals, requiring you to have multiple players constantly rotating between soaking stacks. On heroic difficulty, the damage from Burning Orbs is doubled, making it an extremely deadly Fire DoT that will require excellent management from all players responsible for soaking the stacks.
The fight will simply repeat from here on out, alternating between the two forms Cat Form and Scorpion Form, with a Night Elf form every 3 tranformations. With Fury stacks building up each time Majordomo Staghelm changes forms, players are on a tight clock to kill the boss before he kills you!
