Meteor Wizard Star Pact Variation

Last updated on Jul 01, 2020 at 09:00 by Deadset 42 comments

On this page, we explain everything that is specific to the Star Pact variant of Meteor Wizard. Updated for Patch 2.6.9 and Season 21.

1.

Star Pact Meteor

For extremely high end pushing, the build branches off into a Star Pact Star Pact version of the main Firebird build, maximizing damage output but increasing the difficulty of the spec. This variant is considered as optimal for both soloing and 4-man groups (as AoE damage dealer).

The success of this high end variant is dependent on excellent pulls in the most rewarding rift tilesets and monster compositions (think high density, open maps). The rotation requires you to Ignite (the Firebird set mechanic) elites with Magic Missile Magic Missile Conflagrate Conflagrate and Arcane Torrent Arcane Torrent Flame Ward Flame Ward, as well as filling your AP reserve and getting 5 Arcane Dynamo Arcane Dynamo stacks prior to casting Meteor Meteor Star Pact Star Pact. Then, resume the ignition rotation as fast as possible, trying to time the optimal 2 full Arcane Power Star Pact Star Pacts during your Convention of Elements Convention of Elements Arcane duration.

The shift from a Fire-based Meteor Meteor as your main spender into an Arcane one mandates the following changes:

  • As mentioned above, Meteor Shower Meteor Shower rune of Meteor Meteor will give way to Star Pact Star Pact due to its overwhelming damage potential when executed correctly.
  • The need for a third fire-based skill dictates the removal of Frost Nova Frost Nova. In its stead, you will be including a Signature spell (a.k.a. Primary skill) in the face of Magic Missile Magic Missile Conflagrate Conflagrate.
  • Unwavering Will Unwavering Will from the default spec will give way to Arcane Dynamo Arcane Dynamo in order to provide a great synergy with the newly introduced Magic Missile Magic Missile.
  • Finally, due to the diminished focus on channeling, you will do well to replace Taeguk Taeguk from your Legendary Gem selection for the all-purpose defense of Esoteric Alteration Esoteric Alteration.

Rotation-wise, your group setup will shift slightly to accommodate the changes in skills (since you are solely responsible for AoE damage, and can drop a lot of survival and single target DPS considerations). The most important change you need to keep in mind is the inclusion of Wave of Force Wave of Force Arcane Attunement Arcane Attunement, and casting it in large trash pulls to empower your Star Pact Star Pacts. You will still want to pre-Ignite enemies and have full stacks of Arcane Dynamo Arcane Dynamo prior to using Meteor Meteor.

You should also make some adjustments in gearing with respect to group composition, most notably trying to hit a 10 frames breakpoint for Electrocute Electrocute to optimize Arcane Power generation (achieveable with a maximum 10% Attack Speed roll on the weapon plus two other slots, 7 IAS each). Other adjustments include changing your legendary gems from Taeguk Taeguk to Esoteric Alteration Esoteric Alteration and Bane of the Stricken Bane of the Stricken to Zei's Stone of Vengeance Zei's Stone of Vengeance (and retaining Bane of the Trapped Bane of the Trapped). In the Cube, make a swap from Halo of Arlyse Halo of Arlyse to Halo of Karini Halo of Karini.
