Apparition Incursions are one of the main seasonal activities in Diablo 4 Season 8 (Belial’s Return), and if you are looking to level up your Boss Powers, this is where you want to be. These fast-paced, boss-rush style events are scattered all across Sanctuary and are always active. So you can jump from one to the next as you level and grind.
What Are Apparition Incursions?
Belial, the Lord of Lies, is up to his old tricks, flooding Sanctuary with deceptive illusions in the form of Apparitions. These Incursions spawn in random zones and are marked on your map. When you reach one, you will be tasked with cleansing the area of Belial’s imposters. After taking on his apparitions and bosses, you can end the event by defeating Belial’s corrupted form.
How It Works
Once you enter the area, a countdown timer starts on the right side of your screen. During this phase, slay everything in sight to fill the progress bar.
Look for the green rune on the ground or Belial’s rune on the minimap, this marks where the final boss will spawn once you have cleared enough enemies.
Scattered throughout the surrounding area are green “eyes” called Betraying Eye. Clicking them spawns more apparitions to accelerate your progress. The fight area is larger than the green rune circle suggests, and the real action happens all around it.
When the progress bar is full, an Apparition Boss spawns. After defeating it, the event marker will shift to a new spot in the same zone. Make sure to follow it to continue the Incursion and get the full rewards.
Belial’s smaller form enters the battle as the final challenge. Once you defeat him, the Incursion finishes, and a new one will appear elsewhere in Sanctuary.
Boss Structure
Each Incursion includes three bosses:
- 2 randomized Apparition bosses that drop a Boss Power
- Belial’s smaller form as the final challenge
You will have a limited time to kill the Apparition Boss once it spawns, so move fast and burn it down. Unless you are under-geared for this difficulty level, it should not be too difficult to keep up with the timer. However, if you are struggling, dealing with Apparition Bosses and Belial is much easier with other players, in a group or in the world.
Rewards
- Experience & Loot: A solid source of experience, gold, and a chest of gear at the end.
- Boss Powers: Defeating the Apparition Boss rewards you with their own Boss Power used in the new seasonal power system.
- Spectral Ash: This is the only way to earn Spectral Ash, the currency used to upgrade Boss Powers. Playing in higher difficulties will also reward you with more Spectral Ash. Belial, Red Skull elites (Wandering Apparitions), and boss kills all offer the seasonal currency upon their deaths.
What to Do During Apparition Incursions
- Incursions are always active, so keep an eye on your map and hop to the next event as soon as one ends.
- Stay until the end and fight Belial to make sure to get your Spectral Ash reward.
- They scale to any difficulty, making them perfect for leveling or farming.
- Don’t just stand on the rune; explore the area for Betraying Eyes and enemies to speed things up.
Apparition Incursions are chaotic and fast. It is a good way to level or farm the seasonal currency.
