Barrier | Barrier functions as a shield that will absorb a certain amount of damage from all sources |
Barrier is a status effect in Diablo 4, which forms a temporary shield that can be applied to your character by using certain skills or items. A Barrier absorbs damage from all sources up to a specified amount, or until it expires.
Barriers are a useful defensive tool that can help you survive in the harsh world of Sanctuary. By using the right skills, items, and stats, players can make their Barriers more effective and durable.
How to Apply Barrier
Barriers can be applied by both the player and the enemies. Different classes have different ways of gaining Barriers. Some skills, items, and passives can cause this effect. Some Legendary Aspects can also enhance this effect, such as the Aspect of the Protector.
Here are some examples of Skills or Passives related to the Barrier Status Effect:
Class | Skill | Passive |
---|---|---|
Barbarian | Iron Skin | – |
Druid | Earthen Bulwark | – |
Sorcerer | Ice Armor Prime Deep Freeze | Icy Veil Protection |
How to Recognize Barrier
Barrier is one of the most visible status effects in Diablo 4, whether it is on enemies or on the player.
On enemies, the life bar will be covered with some transparent white-blue layer, indicating that the health of the enemy is protected. The more the Barrier is hit, the more transparent the bar will be, until the whole layer is gone.
On players, it works the same way: the Barrier will cover the whole Health Orb, with the transparent, bubble-like looking color moving down the more it is hit until your protection is gone.
Additional Information about Barrier
Barriers are additive, meaning that if you use multiple skills or items that grant Barriers, their values are added together. However, their durations are independent and depend on the source of the Barrier.
Barrier Generation is a stat that increases the amount of damage that a single Barrier can absorb. It only affects active skills that generate Barriers, such as Iron Skin or Ice Armor. It does not affect passive skills or items that grant Barriers.
Additionally, Barrier Generation can be increased by using certain affixes on gear, such as “+x% Barrier Generation”, or by socketing Royal Diamond into Armor pieces. Each Diamond grants +x% Barrier Generation.
