Belial, the Lord of Lies, is an Exalted Lair Boss with its own unique loot system. To earn rewards, you will need to defeat him while managing several tricky mechanics. You can adjust the world tier to make the encounter easier or more challenging. Higher Torment tiers will improve your chances at better loot.

How to Summon Belial

To open Belial’s treasure, you will need 4 Betrayer’s Husks. These drop from the Belial’s Ambush that happens after defeating a Lair Boss.

Once you have collected the necessary materials, head to the Palace of the Deceiver in Kehjistan, located in the upper section of the region. You can travel directly to the dungeon by right-clicking. Inside the dungeon, proceed to the altar and use it to summon Belial.

Preparations

  • Stack Poison Resistance: Belial deals heavy Poison damage throughout the fight. Equip gear with high Poison Resistance and use an Elixir of Poison Resistance II to boost your survivability.
  • Play a Build You Trust: Bring a build with strong single-target damage and survivability. If unsure, check out our Boss Tier list for suggestions.

Boss Mechanics

Belial deals primarily Poison and Physical damage. Like most Lair bosses, he has a Stagger Bar; once it’s filled, it turns blue and will stun the boss temporarily, giving you a free damage window.

During the fight, in addition to his default attacks, Belial has a few mechanics to watch for:

  • Claw Swipe: Belial stabs one of his claws into the platform and swipes it across. Avoid standing on the upper side of the platform to evade this attack. Positioning is key.

  • Poison Spit: Belial spits a stream of poison from one end of the platform to the other. Stand on the opposite side from where he starts the attack. The beam will spawn additional poison pools on the ground. Be ready to reposition to a clean area.

  • Poison Wave: Pools of poison slide across the platform from left to right. If multiple are present, use a defensive skill or potion, and make sure you do not stand in their path.

  • Belial’s Betrayer Eyes: Belial summons seven eyes around him. One or three of them will be black/inactive. Position yourself in front of a black eye to avoid incoming damage. All other eyes will project deadly poison across the platform.

  • Poison Pools (Tracking): Belial spawns poison pools under your feet while stabbing the platform with his claws. These pools track your position, so you need to stay on the move, carefully avoiding the formed puddles until the attack ends.

Loot Table

To get your loot, you will need to use the required materials to open the reward chest/hoard after the fight.

Belial does not have a fixed loot pool. Instead, upon defeating him and opening the Hoard of Belial, you will be able to choose the loot pool of another Lair Boss. This will give you more control over the gear you are after.

The first Unique dropped is guaranteed to come from the boss-specific loot table you picked. Any additional Uniques have a 50% chance to come from the general Unique pool instead. Belial also has a guaranteed Ancestral Unique item chance.

If you are playing in a group, each additional party member increases the chance of an extra Unique dropping by 33%.

Belial Ambush Encounter

After defeating any of the other Lair Bosses (Initiate or Greater), there is a small chance that Belial will ambush you. This unexpected encounter brings its own set of challenges, as Belial uses a mix of Blood and Poison magic that you will need to avoid.

Defeating this smaller form of Belial will grant you a second round of loot from the Lair Boss you just killed without requiring any additional materials. He will also drop the Betrayer’s Husk, the item needed to challenge Belial’s Exalted Lair Boss form.

Boss Mechanics

  • Poison Wave: Belial marks a rectangular zone in front of him and sends out a sweeping poison wave. Step out of the area before the wave hits to avoid heavy damage.

  • Poison Pools: Large poison pools spawn near Belial and explode. Stay on the move and avoid these zones as soon as they appear.

  • Poison Projectiles: Illusions of Belial appear and launch poison projectiles across the arena. Keep dodging and don’t get overwhelmed by the crossfire.

  • Black Soulstones: Three or more soulstones spawn and explode shortly after. Watch for their location and stay clear until they detonate.

  • Belial Illusions: Three mini versions of Belial appear inside a red circle. While active, they unleash Poison Waves and trigger other mechanics. Avoid the center and keep moving until the circle disappears.

  • Connected Black Soulstones: One or two soulstones connect directly to Belial and begin tracking you. These will follow you until they explode. Keep your distance and use evasive skills to avoid getting trapped.

  • Aerial Blood Attack: Blood spears rain down from above in random patterns. Watch for the red indicators on the ground and reposition quickly.

  • Adds Spawn: Elite snake adds join the fight during the ambush. Focus them down quickly to prevent being overwhelmed, especially during high-density mechanics.

Fighting the smaller form of Belial is a chaotic encounter packed with a lot of mechanics. Keep moving, use your potions wisely, and stay vigilant. As the Lord of Lies, Belial thrives on deception. Summoning illusions and adds to distract you from the real threat. Focus your damage on him between phases to shorten the fight and avoid being overwhelmed.
