Since the introduction as an eternal endgame boss in Season of Blood, we were able to fight the Echo of Varshan Level 55 version in WT3 and Level 75 version in WT4. Now with Vessel of Hatred and Season 6, we are able to adjust the challenge of fighting Varshan just by changing the difficulty that we are playing on. The higher the difficulty, the more loot that will drop. As with other endgame bosses, Echo of Varshan has a special pool of uniques that he can drop.
How to Summon Echo of Varshan
To summon the Echo of Varshan, you must gather 4 Malignant Heart‘s. All of these are gathered from completing Whispers and as random drops in Helltides from Elites, chests, and Treasure Goblins.
You will take these items to the cave right next to the world tree called the Malignant Burrow, go through them, and you will find an altar at the end to place the materials into and summon the boss.
Preparations
There are a few things you can do before challenging Varshan:
- Get your Shadow Resistance as high as possible, including increasing your Max Shadow Resist through items like Elixir of Shadow Resistance II or your Armor to cap with Elixir of Iron Barbs II.
- Play a build that you are comfortable with and that has shown to have enough damage and survivability to take on bosses (check out our Tier list here for suggestions).
Boss Mechanics
The Echo of Varshan mainly deals Shadow and Physical damage.
Stagger Bar: Like most bosses in Diablo 4, Echo of Varshan has a stagger bar. Filling this bar will stun the boss, allowing you to deal damage without worrying about his attacks for a few seconds.
During the fight, in addition to default attacks, the Echo of Varshan has a few mechanics to look out for:
- Tentacle Attack: Varshan will attack you with intestines and release projectiles, be sure to dodge out of the way of both.
- Blood Dance: The boss will teleport to the center of the room and mark areas of the floor in a pinkish red color, you will need to move out of them with the correct timing to avoid getting damaged by them.
- Summon Minions: Varshan will summon 3 minions and try to absorb their power, they must be a priority as allowing the boss to absorb them, especially on Tormented difficulty, will make the fight much harder.
