Introduction
Diablo 4 is embracing the festive spirit with its seasonal holiday: the Midwinter Blight. Prepare to face the chilling depths of winter and confront the Red Cloaked Horror, a fearsome foe lurking within the shadows. The event will run from November 19, 2024, to December 3, 2024. In this guide, we will cover everything you need to know about the Midwinter Blight, from unlocking its mysteries to claiming its bountiful rewards.
This year’s Midwinter Blight differs from the last. We know the Red-Cloaked Horror can spawn in Helltides, Infernal Hordes, and Dungeons, dropping rewards like Cinders, Burning Aether, and Gileon’s Brew. The Midwinter Square is also back in Kyovashad, though it will only offer you a one time account-wide reward this time.
Midwinter Blight Overview
Sanctuary now faces a new surge of monstrous activity during the harsh winter season. This heightened presence, coupled with a relentless snowstorm, has plunged the region into a state of fear and despair.
Within this dark, gloomy, and cold landscape, a new terror has emerged – the Red Cloaked Horror and his monstrous minions. Will the courageous adventurers of Sanctuary rise to the challenge and vanquish this menacing threat? Or will the winter storm and the relentless onslaught of the monstrous horde claim the region forever? The answer lies in the hands of those brave enough to confront the unspeakable horrors.
Unlocking the Event
The Midwinter Blight Event unlocks automatically with the latest update. The Red-Cloaked Horror and its Blightfiend minions will appear across various game activities. Additionally, you can visit the Midwinter Square in Kyovashad during the event.
You will find a letter telling you that the Red-Cloaked Horror is back and Gileon left you some rewards to help you on your journey. Click on the totem in the square and claim your one-time gift, which includes various bags of gear (Ancestrals and Uniques).
Location
The Red-Cloaked Horror can appear in Helltides, replacing a Hellborne, while Blightfiends may ambush you within the same zone. Additionally, The Red-Cloaked Horror might spawn during Infernal Hordes if you manage to get the Stalking Devil Offer: “An Infernal Demon has your scent.” This Infernal Offer will give you a chance for the Red-Cloaked Horror to spawn instead of the Butcher. In Dungeons, you also have a chance for a surprise encounter. Defeating the enemy rewards items like Cinder, Burning Aether, and more.
Taking down The Red-Cloaked Horror or Blightfiends may drop a Gileon’s Brew. This powerful elixir boosts your damage by 20%, increases herb and crafting material drops, and grants 15% extra Experience for 30 minutes. When used in Helltides, it also gives you a chance to drop a Tortured Gift.
Activities and Progression
The Midwinter Blight event is a good addition to various activities to keep you engaged and entertained throughout the festive season. Here are some things you should look out for during the event:
- Explore! Participate in Helltides, Infernal Hordes, and Dungeons to encounter these new enemies.
- Fight new enemies that have invaded the region, such as the Blightfiends. These scary creatures embody the essence of the Midwinter Blight, and defeating them will grant you valuable rewards and progress toward event objectives.
- Use Gileon’s Brew: Drink Gileon’s Brew to activate its powerful experience boost.
- Challenge the Red Cloaked Horror, the main boss of the event. This fearsome figure can randomly appear while unaware players are completing activities. Defeating him will grant you rare rewards.
Rewards
The Midwinter Blight event will give you access to a single big reward. Be careful about which character you claim it on, as it is only possible to receive it once per account.
Head to the Midwinter Blight Square in Kyovashad and interact with the statue in the middle.
It will give you various rewards such as:
- Legendary and Ancestral Gear
- Nightmare Sigils
- Gold
- Materials
- 4x Midwinter Caches.
The 4 Midwinter Caches contain the following items:
- Magic Midwinter Purse, suited for characters around level 20, contains Legendaries, Gold, Materials, Runes, and Magic Tributes.
- Rare Midwinter Purse, for characters around level 40, contains some more Uniques and Legendaries as well as Runes, Gold, Materials, and Rare Tributes.
- Legendary Midwinter Purse, suited for level 60 characters, contains Gold, Runes, Materials, Legendary Tributes, and Ancestral items.
- Greater Midwinter Purse, for level 60 characters, contains Gold, Materials, Runes, Unique Tributes as well as Ancestral Legendaries and Uniques with Greater Affixes.
Remember, you can only claim the Midwinter Caches once per account, so be cautious about which character you open them on. To get the most out of the rewards, consider transferring the lower-level caches to your lower-level characters, as the gear inside will not be useful on your maxed-out character.
