Uniques and Mythic Uniques

The Shred Druid uses the following Unique items:

  • Waxing GibbousWaxing Gibbous – This gives extra ShredShred and extra rolls each cast of Shred to multihit. Drops from Lord Zir.
  • Tibault's WillTibault’s Will is a powerful source of Spirit for our Talisman 2-set. We get Unstoppable from both Earthen Bulwark and Blood Howl triggers. This item has no dedicated drop source; use the Horadric Cube to upgrade Common pants to Unique.
  • Ifeh's Dire TotemIfeh’s Dire Totem makes Grizzly RageGrizzly Rage a Werewolf Skill, allowing use with ShredShred and granting significant Critical Strike Damage Multiplier and Cost Reduction. Drops from Harbinger.
  • Dirge of AiridahDirge of Airidah grants Spirit on Storm Skill, damage to storm skills, and extra damage when the enemy is Vulnerable. We apply Vulnerable with Overcharged AspectOvercharged Aspect. Drops from Astaroth in Escalating Nightmare Dungeons.
  • Thundergod's BlessingThundergod’s Blessing gives easy Resolve and is a slightly better average multiplier than a Legendary aspect. However, there is no drop source for this item; Use the Horadric Cube to upgrade Common Ring to Unique. There are 16 ring options for Druid, so this is lower priority and may take a while to acquire.
  • AzurewrathAzurewrath is our Unique Charm. This bursts frozen enemies in a strong explosion of damage. We get Chance to Freeze from Charms and one Weapon Augment for Chance to Freeze. Azurewrath drops from Bartuc in Infernal Hordes, or use the Horadric Cube to turn an ancestral Common sword into the Unique Weapon, then convert the weapon into a Charm.

Gems and Runewords

The following are the recommended Gem and Runeword setups for the Shred Druid.

Gems

Weapon GemsArmor GemsJewelry Gems
Grand TopazGrand Topaz for Lightning Damage MultiplierGrand SapphireGrand Sapphire for Willpower2xGrand DiamondGrand Diamond for All Resistance
1x Grand RubyGrand Ruby for Fire Resistance

The best source for Gems is still Seer’s Reach, northeast of Temis. Convert Grand Gems into Horadric, into Flawless Horadric Gems using the Horadric Cube.

Most of the dangerous one-shots are Fire or Lightning damage. Swap in more Rubies or Topaz if necessary.

Runewords

Use these Runeword combinations for the Shred Druid, placed in Armor slots.

Runeword CombinationRuneword Effects
Moni GarMoniMoni – Gain: 100 Offering. Cast 2 Mobility Skills.
GarGar – Requires: 25 Offering. Overflow: Gain Multiple Stacks. Cooldown: 1 seconds. Gain 2% Critical Strike Chance for 5 seconds, up to 10%.
Nagu QueNaguNagu – Maintain at least 1 active summon for 5 seconds, gaining Offering for each up to 5 Summons.
QueQue – Requires: 300 Offering. Overflow: Increased Duration. Cooldown: 1 second.
Evoke the Druid’s Earthen BulwarkEarthen Bulwark, granting yourself a Barrier.

Runewords use a conditional Rune of Ritual to generate Offering. The Offering is consumed by the Rune of Invocation to trigger its effect. Runes replace Gems in gear with two sockets. Up to two sets of Runeword Pairs can be placed at a time.

ShredShred is a fast attack and has the Mobility Tag, meaning MoniMoni will work as a trigger, easily maintaining Critical Strike Chance from GarGar.

Using QueQue allows us to benefit from our Skill Point investments into Earthen BulwarkEarthen Bulwark without needing it on the Skill Bar.

Paragon Board

The following are the preferred Glyphs, Boards, and pathing recommended for making the most of the Shred Druid.

The road to max Paragon is long. The above Paragon tabs show the following:

  • The first tab shows a setup around Paragon 200. This pathing is stricter to grab all Legendary nodes, essential rare nodes, and to fill in glyph areas.
  • The second tab is the paragon tree in its final form.

At level 15, the glyph grows in radius and gains a special effect. At level 46, the glyph grows to its max radius and gains a strong conditional damage multiplier.

Total Boards placed are now limited to a max of 5; the Starter Board and four Class Boards. Rotate boards as necessary.

For a more defensive setup, exchange Earth and SkyEarth and Sky for WerewolfWerewolf.

Season Mechanics

In Season of Death Awakening, a death cult is after us! Defeat Ruptures, Realmwalkers, Risen, and Reapers for seasonal reputation and rewards. In the endgame, Uniques can now be Mythic quality, boosting their unique effect and maxing their gear affixes.

Seasonal content and reputation will be the best sources for these new Mythic Uniques. They can also be crafted at the Jeweler or randomly upgraded through the Horadric Cube. You can equip as many Mythic Uniques as you want that were acquired from drops or caches, but you can only have one crafted Mythic Unique equipped at a time. A priority Mythic Unique to craft for the Shred Druid would be Waxing GibbousWaxing Gibbous.

Talisman

Lord of Hatred introduces Talisman sets. The Talisman is a Seal and the Charms placed within. Charms have general affixes from a limited pool and can have Set bonuses, which grant significant power.

The ideal setup for an Ancestral Seal for the Shred Druid is the following:

  • Seal Bonus +1 Charm Slot for 6 total Charm slots. This allows for a full 5-set and Unique Charm.
  • 5/5 Storm Shepherd’s Call Talisman Set.
  • Unique Charm for AzurewrathAzurewrath.

Ideal affixes for the Seal, Seal Bonuses, and Charms include the following in order of priority:

  • Ranks to Shapeshifting, Core, Werewolf, Storm, or Nature Magic Skills. Nature Magic Skills are best, covering Shred, Cyclone Armor and Earthen Bulwark.
  • Chance to Freeze Enemies, for AzurewrathAzurewrath.
  • All Stats. All Stats is important for Paragon Secondary Bonus nodes.
  • Critical Strike Damage or Critical Strike Chance on the seal.

Storm Shepherd’s Call is the Stormy Talisman Set for Druid:

  • The 2-set makes Storm Skills free to cast, but all Spirit is consumed to boost Storm Skill damage. This means we still want enough Spirit generation to keep this bonus damage active.
  • The 3-set gives Cyclone Armor for free, even off the Skill Bar, improves its damage reduction, and automatically casts it when taking damage.
  • The 5-set gives chances to double or triple cast the Storm Skill at greatly increased damage.

Mercenaries

Once unlocked, Mercenaries are followers that aid the Player in combat. A main mercenary is chosen to fight alongside you, granting strong buffs or perks, and a secondary Mercenary is chosen to Reinforce you under a chosen Opportunity condition periodically.

The following Mercenary options are recommended for the Shred Druid:

Main Mercenary – Raheir, the Shieldbearer

Reinforcement – Aldkin, the Cursed Child

Raheir will grant a notable increase to Armor and a small damage bonus, taunting enemies occasionally. Other setups are viable, such as Subo’s Cover FireCover Fire for Critical Strike Damage and minimap marking quality of life.

Build Mechanics

Rotation and Playstyle

  1. Upkeep your Debilitating RoarDebilitating Roar for bonuses.
  2. Toggle HurricaneHurricane on.
  3. Toggle Lightning StormLightning Storm on.
  4. Activate Grizzly RageGrizzly Rage to enter Dire Werewolf Form.
  5. Cast and Hold ShredShred to slay your foes.

Skills, Support, and Synergies

The ShredShred Druid groups and dashes into enemies for serious damage. Shred is a high mobility skill that is efficient for killing and then moving on.

  • Storm ShredStorm Shred Variation causes a secondary hit of splashed lightning damage. This is guaranteed and has a Chain Lightning visual.
  • Shred is a three-hit combo, ramping up into its final damage, then resetting back to hit one. All attacks in the combo have a Dash attached to them, but require a target to Dash.

Supporting Skills

  • Cyclone ArmorCyclone Armor is available even without being on the Skill Bar thanks to the Storm Shepherd’s Call 3-set. Gathlen's BirthrightGathlen’s Birthright will automatically cast it every few seconds. With the ReversalReversal variation, this is a powerful grouping tool.
  • WolvesWolves are there for their supporting buffs. When WolvesWolves critically strike, we gain 40% Attack Speed. Companion Skills are Versatile, and keep the previous form when Cast, so they will not break Werewolf Form.
  • Blood HowlBlood Howl will trigger automatically with Malefic CrescentMalefic Crescent, giving periodic Unstoppable and Spirit Regeneration with the Spirit HowlSpirit Howl variation.
  • With QueQue, we gain access to Earthen BulwarkEarthen Bulwark without placing it on the Skill Bar. Earthen Bulwark provides Fortify, periodic Unstoppable, Barrier, and Resolve.
  • HurricaneHurricane with the Derecho variation becomes a toggled skill, always active. It places Weaken on targets and helps with total damage events to trigger essential Lucky Hits like Spirit Boons or Constricting TendrilsConstricting Tendrils.
  • Lightning StormLightning Storm with Hero of the StormHero of the Storm variant is a useful extra trigger of damage events and storm events for lucky hits like Calm Before the Storm and Overload Spirit Boons. The more they trigger, the better the Talisman Multiplier and Cooldown Reduction on Grizzly Rage we can get.
  • In early gearing and leveling, before getting access to the Storm Shepherd’s Call Talisman 2 set bonus, use a Basic Spirit Builder like ClawClaw.

Grizzly Rage

This build uses Grizzly RageGrizzly Rage as its Ultimate Skill. With Ifeh’s Dire Totem, we become the Dire Werewolf.

With Cornered BeastCornered Beast Variation, we build stacks of extra damage each time we take damage or deal damage with a Skill. Shred is a speedy attacker and ramps these stacks quickly.

Grizzly Rage can work on its cooldown while still active. We extend Grizzly Rage with Calamity Spirit Boon, and reduce its cooldown with Calm Before the Storm Spirit Boon and other Cooldown Reductions on Gear. Nature Magic events from Shred, Hurricane, Lightning Storm and others will frequently reduce the cooldown.

Spirit Management

We use the Storm Shepherd’s Call Talisman Set, which makes Storm Skills freely castable. However, we still want to generate Spirit to get stacked damage multipliers from the Talisman 2-set.

Before obtaining the Talisman 2 set:

  • Use ClawClaw – Spirit – Casting Speed – Werewolf Form – DashDash, replacing HurricaneHurricane on the Skill Bar.

Controller vs Keyboard and Mouse

The Shred Druid can play smoother on a controller. When held, ShredShred can auto-move to the nearest enemies or continue in the direction if no enemies are in range. The Dashes from casts of ShredShred auto-aim to the nearest enemy. A keyboard and Mouse can offer better control, allowing you to choose targets to Dash to. Both options are valid. Keyboard and Mouse can also access the auto-aim behavior by going into ESC -> Options -> Gameplay, and changing Skill Toggle Behavior to Toggle All.

Season Updates

Expect Shred to play similarly to previous seasons, as a mobile close-range melee skirmisher, using electrified claws to slay enemies. With the buffs to Waxing GibbousWaxing Gibbous and to the Storm Shepherd’s Call Talisman set, Shred should be a top performer. It’s a bit squishy but that is life as a Shred druid. If you want something tanky that performs about as well, try out the Werebear Lightning Druid!

Check out the Mechanics section for a full breakdown on how things play, and for some extra options!

See the following for relevant changes to the Shred Druid. For general Season 14 information, check out our Season 14 Hub.

Skills and Stats:

  • Scythe Talon Spirit Boon – Critical Strike chance increased from 5% to 10%.
  • Constricting TendrilsConstricting Tendrils – Damage increased from 40% to 60%

Itemization:

  • Storm Shepherd’s Talisman Set
    • 2-Piece Set Bonus: Damage increased from 40% to 60%.
    • 5-Piece Set Bonus: Double/triple cast damage increased from 100%/300% to 500%.
  • Aspect of Glynn's AnvilAspect of Glynn’s Anvil – Damage reduction is now capped to 40%.
  • Gathlen's BirthrightGathlen’s Birthright – now additionally grants 20-30% Damage Reduction.
  • Waxing GibbousWaxing Gibbous
    • Damage bonus increased from 20-25% to 45-60%.
    • Chance for additional attacks increased from 25% to 33%.
  • SpiritSpirit Damage reduced from 15% to 12%.
  • Fang and ClawFang and Claw Damage increased from 12% to 15%.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the Resolve Temper was scaling with item types and much more than intended with Masterworking ranks.
  • Fixed an issue where Waxing Gibbous granted 100% critical strike chance when coming out of Stealth.
  • Fixed an issue where Waxing Gibbous did not grant Shred its intended fourth attack.

Known Bugs for Shred Druid:

  • Archdruid's AspectArchdruid’s Aspect also gives the werebear multiplier even in werewolf form if you have Resolve and Ifeh's Dire TotemIfeh’s Dire Totem during Grizzly Rage.
  • Waxing GibbousWaxing Gibbous additional strikes are counting as Casts for Storm Shepherd’s Call Talisman 2-set spirit consumption and multiplier, greatly increasing the total stacked talisman set multiplier
  • Waxing GibbousWaxing Gibbous, when spam clicked instead of held as a combo cast, whether manually or via macro, has an increased chance to trigger additional strikes, greatly increasing total damage event triggers.
  • Hero of the StormHero of the Storm Lightning StormLightning Storm is a snapshot skill, meaning certain conditions can be loaded into it for the entire duration of the skill. The major ones are Attack Speed and Storm Shepherd’s 5-set multiplier.
    • For the Attack speed, relevant buffs include Wolves Attack Speed and Ferocity. To load these in, send in your wolves, gain your 4 Ferocity stacks, then toggle or retoggle your Lightning Storm; you’ll see it ticking much faster.
    • For the Shepherd 5-set, there’s a 1 in 4 chance for it to trigger the additional multiplier. There is no visual indicator that this bonus is active other than the damage itself, so watch numbers or the enemy health bar. Simply turn it on, and off, and on, until the bonus is active. This is largely unnecessary outside of the highest push content.
  • AzurewrathAzurewrath bursts sometimes do far more damage than they should. Conditions unknown.
  • Werewolf Form gives 20% Attack Speed, 5 more than the 15 indicated on the Form Nodes.
