The Strategy Summarized
This is the basic outline of what we currently believe to be the fastest and most efficient speed-leveling strategy in Diablo 4 for Season 7.
- If this is your first character, go through the campaign as quickly as possible on Normal difficulty. If you already have a character that has completed the campaign, then you should skip the Campaign.
- Once you are done with the campaign, and depending on your level, you can go to step #3.
- Grab your Mercenaries from the Den in Nahantu.
- First, you’ll want to progress the Seasonal journey quest chain and then head to whichever area is currently corrupted by the Purple “Witchtide” and grind the area out completely. In this area, you’ll want to complete the Tree of Whispers and spawn “Exposed Roots” which will spawn hordes of enemies for crazy experience and loot. Keep in mind that this is all done in Normal or Hard difficulty for the highest efficiency.
- Around Level 40-45 switch the difficulty to Expert or Penitent and continue your Seasonal quest progression by consistently farming the Witchtide areas. If you are struggling with this difficulty, head back to Normal or Hard. Ideally, you’ll want to be able to handle these zones at Expert difficulty.
- At this point, you’ll want to look to do increase your difficulty when you’ve accumulated enough gear and levels to comfortably handle higher difficulty tiers.
- Level 50 you’ll want to move back to NORMAL difficulty and do every single Stronghold in the game. The reason for doing it in this difficulty is that they will give you the exact same experience but this will go significantly faster and safer to do. If you don’t like this segment you can just go back to the Witchtide farming instead.
- From level 60 you’ll now want to make sure your difficulty is set to Penitent and Temper reroll as well as imprinting all your gear if you haven’t already. Also, look at what runes you have access to and equip whatever your build dictates.
- Now you can run a couple of Nightmare Dungeons to improve your gear and get your first couple of Glyphs and begin the process of running the Pit to tier 20 which will unlock Torment Tier 1.
Please note that this is not an especially fun or enjoyable way of leveling; it is simply the most efficient one. Do not feel forced to engage in it simply because it is technically optimal.
The “Witchtide Grind”
Season 7 introduces the purple Helltides, also known as Witchtides. These areas are part of the seasonal journey and will take you from 1-60 in no time as described in detail above. Essentially what you’re looking to do is literally run Tree of Whispers inside these purple zones and keep handing in the 10 finished favors to the tree for loot and experience rewards.
By finishing a whisper you will spawn “Exposed Roots” which spawns hordes of monsters and sometimes even a Witchtide boss allowing you to not only ramp up your experience gain but also get tons of gear in the process.
Skipping the Campaign: Pros and Cons
It is significantly faster to skip the campaign and begin with step 3 of the strategy. However, you will have to finish the campaign once on your very first character. In order to set yourself up for the fastest possible clear time, you will want to clear everything in Normal difficulty as it provides fastest experience.
It is not uncommon to find yourself under-leveled upon entering Act 5 as you rush through the content. You should expect to finish the campaign around level 40-42. To solve this potential problem, we’ll be grinding out experience in the best possible way; dungeon grinding.
The best place to do this is to grind the dungeon “Domhainne Tunnels” (located west of Corbach in Scosglen). You’re only looking to clear the initial first area due to the high density of enemies and will teleport out of the dungeon to then click the “Reset Dungeon” button (in your map interface) and repeat this process. Do keep in mind that this is only used to help get extra levels DURING the campaign and not to be considered a speed leveling strategy if you are not in the campaign.
Torment 1
Now that you’ve unlocked Torment 1, it’s time to switch things up. You’ll start with doing Nightmare Dungeons. Trying to run them at as high of a tier as possible without it affecting your clear speed. When able to, you should weave in the occasionally spawning Helltide Event on the world map to collect materials, items & experience. Engaging with the Seasonal mechanic is often preferable to increase the power gain from that. If Nightmare dungeons become a struggle you can always weave back to the Helltide zone grinding for more loot and experience. In Helltides, you’ll also find Infernal Horde compasses which is the best place to grind experience assuming your character can handle clearing them effectively.
In this new difficulty, you’ll have the possibility to not only get significantly more experience but also much better loot. This new gear quality is capable of rolling new modifiers and higher numerical values.
Torment 2-4
This is where things start to really hurt in Sanctuary. Despite the new difficulties, the strategy itself has still not changed; back to Nightmare dungeon grinding. Doing Nightmare Dungeons here will be a lot tougher, so be careful as you first try it out. Once you’ve unlocked Nightmare Dungeons, and you’re capable of doing them comfortably, they should be your main source of experience, Glyphs, and Glyph experience. For the best overall efficiency, don’t forget to participate in Helltide Events when they are available! Recently Blizzard has allowed us to gain Glyphs inside Pit content which is an effective way to get upgrade material for our gear as well as leveling up our Glyphs so you can run that as well.
Your goal as you progress here is to ramp up your paragon levels, improve your gear by finding better items but most importantly also masterwork and temper-craft your gear to solve simple things such as Armor and Resistance caps as they get harder and harder to reach for each incremental difficulty step.

Similarly to the previous difficulty, should you find yourself struggling, take a step back and level up a bit more before continuing on.
Closing Thoughts
As mentioned at the start of this guide, rushing through content like this for the sake of efficiency can very easily get repetitive and lower your enjoyment of the game. Make sure you have fun playing Diablo 4, since it is a game after all!
