The Witchcraft system is the main focus of Season 7, allowing you to access strong mystical powers categorized into three schools of sorcery. These powers can be bought, upgraded, and used to complete the tougher season challenges.

You will most likely need to complete the seasonal questline to unlock the Witchcraft system. Additional details will be added as they become available.

Witchcraft System

Witchcraft is the new core mechanic for Season 7. You can equip 6 Witch Powers: 5 standard powers and 1 unique power. Drawing from the dark magic of Hawezar, these powers can improve your character builds, working similarly to how Vampiric Powers functioned in Season 2.

To manage your Witchcraft Powers, a dedicated tab is available in the Character window. Unlocking these powers requires visiting the Coven’s Altars at the Tree of Whispers, but upgrades can be performed directly in your inventory.

Three Schools of Hawezar Sorcery

Witchcraft features 24 Witch Powers, divided into three main schools and a set of rare Lost Powers. Each school focuses on specific themes:

  • Eldritch Powers (7 Powers): Offensive powers using destructive energies and polymorphy. They are characterized by the purple swirl/fire on their icon. Examples include summoning bats, dealing elemental damage, and triggering explosions.
  • Psyche Powers (6 Powers): Defensive and debuff-focused abilities that manipulate the mind and spirit. You can recognize those powers by the pink star on their icons. These provide barriers, reduce incoming damage, and interrupt enemy attacks.
  • Growth & Decay Powers (7 Powers): Powers that can heal and harm. They are easy to recognize with the green skull on the interface. They can summon poisonous frogs, increase the power of your servants, minions, and companions, or heal yourself as you deal damage.
  • Lost Powers (4 Powers): These are more rare and versatile. You can find them with the blue animal skull on their icons. They can boost the effectiveness of other Witchcraft powers.

Among the 24 powers, 4 are Unique Powers (one per school and one Lost Power). Unique Powers are harder to obtain and limited to Rank 5, while standard powers can be upgraded to Rank 20.

How to Acquire Witch Powers

In order to access Witchcraft, you must collect a new seasonal currency called Restless Rot. This currency can be spent at the Coven Altars near the Tree of Whispers to unlock Witchcraft Powers.

Initially, not all six Witchcraft Power slots will be available. You will need to progress through the Coven’s Favor reputation board to unlock additional slots and gain access to more Witchcraft Powers. Prioritize earning Restless Rot and building Coven’s Favor to fully unlock this system.

Restless Rot Currency

Witch Powers are unlocked using a new seasonal currency, Restless Rot, which can be obtained by:

  • Defeating Headrotten enemies in the new seasonal zone, Headhunts.
  • Completing Rootholds, micro-dungeons accessed with Whisper Wood sigils found in Whisper Caches and Silent Chests.
  • Finishing Whisper Bounties requiring Headrotten kills.

Coven’s Altars

Visit the Coven’s Altars near the Tree of Whispers to craft Witch Powers using Restless Rot. Altars are divided into the three schools previously mentioned:

  • Altar of Eldritch
  • Altar of Psyche
  • Altar of Growth and Decay

Forgotten Altars (Lost Powers)

Lost Powers require Forgotten Altars, which are hidden inside specific dungeons across Sanctuary. Once the dungeon locations are confirmed, we will update the guide.

Upgrading Witchcraft Powers

Once acquired, Witch Powers can then be upgraded directly in your Witchcraft inventory tab. Standard powers scale up to Rank 20, while unique powers cap at Rank 5. Try to focus on upgrading the powers that work best with your chosen build.

It is not possible to reset a Witch Power, so spend your currency carefully!
