<p>A recent interview with Rod Fergusson, Head of the Diablo franchise, and Gavian Whishaw, Diablo 4 Executive Producer, has surfaced following Gamescom, revealing interesting details about how Diablo is evolving at Blizzard and what is in store for Diablo 4. Here are some highlights of this interview. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Big Changes Coming in Season 6</h2>



<p>Season 6 promises significant updates to player progression and difficulty, while <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/vessel-of-hatred-overview/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vessel of Hatred</a> addresses the desire for more story content. There is plenty more to explore, but one key takeaway is this comparison Fergusson made: <strong>&#8220;What we like to say is, what Season 4 did for loot, Season 6 does for progression!&#8221;</strong></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Game Pass Impact</h2>



<p>Despite joining Game Pass, Fergusson insists that this has not changed Blizzard&#8217;s overall strategy for Diablo. The team sees Game Pass as a great way to expand Diablo 4&#8217;s reach and bring in more players. </p>



<p><strong>&#8220;And so all the things that we are doing beyond making a great game is making sure it is available to as many players as possible.&#8221;</strong></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Active Player Base of Diablo 3</h2>



<p><strong>&#8220;Our goal is to make the content and the features so desirable that people want to come and play Diablo 4. We are not actively trying to push them away from Diablo 3.&#8221;</strong></p>



<p>Even with Diablo 4&#8217;s success, Diablo 3 still has a large, active player base. Fergusson talked about Blizzard&#8217;s appreciation for the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Diablo 3</a> community, stating that they are not pushing players to abandon it, but rather wait for them to naturally switch over to Diablo 4 through new and exciting content. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Season Resets and Fresh Starts</h2>



<p><strong>&#8220;Generally speaking, ARPG players want to try a new build every season, and it is a great opportunity to have fun exploring new metas and setups.&#8221;</strong></p>



<p>Fergusson emphasized the importance of seasons in Diablo 4, explaining how they create opportunities for new players to join without feeling left behind. Each season offers a fresh start, letting players explore new builds and themes. But it also allows the team to develop new features and test them out. </p>



<p><strong>&#8220;The whole goal of seasons is to create a temporary sandbox where we can experiment, try new things, and come up with novel ways to play.&#8221;</strong></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Longevity and Player Feedback</h2>



<p>Diablo 4 is set to be supported for years, with regular updates, expansions, and new features. Rod and Gavian stressed how important player feedback is in shaping the future of the game. </p>



<p><strong>&#8220;What is exciting is taking player feedback, implementing it, and then seeing the community respond positively. It is a continuous cycle of improvement and evolution!&#8221;</strong></p>

What is Next for Diablo 4? Rod Fergusson Shares Insights!


<p>Players have spoken, and it&#8217;s time to reimagine Diablo 4&#8217;s socketable gems! Currently, the gem system feels like an afterthought. Many players follow the meta, slotting the same gems everywhere without much consideration. But imagine a Diablo where choosing the right gem can make or break your build. One fan has outlined a game-changing proposal to overhaul how gems work in weapons and armor.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s the Problem with the Current System?</h2>



<p>Right now, weapons gems give straightforward, somewhat uninspired bonuses like Crit Damage, Overpower, or Damage Over Time. While functional, these don&#8217;t bring much gameplay choice and are perhaps even too predictable.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Proposed Weapon Gem Overhaul</h2>



<p>The player concept introduces dynamic effects for weapons and suggests:</p>



<ul>
<li><strong>Attack Speed</strong> instead of <strong>Overpower Damage</strong></li>



<li><strong>Critical Chance</strong> over <strong>Crit Damage</strong></li>



<li><strong>Chance to Apply Vulnerable</strong> instead of flat <strong>Vulnerable Damage</strong></li>
</ul>



<p>With dynamic effects like <strong>Lucky Hit Chance</strong> or <strong>Cooldown Reduction</strong>, these changes offer more engaging gameplay with strategic decisions rather than following cookie-cutter builds.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Should Gems in Jewelry Be Removed?</h2>



<p>The player&#8217;s proposal suggests removing gems in Jewelry entirely to make space for the upcoming Rune system, which could lead to a more streamlined and focused gear system.</p>

<p>The concept also mentions a rework of armor gems, introducing new combinations like:</p>

Diablo 4 Gem System Reimagined (Fan Concept)


<p>One of the most repeated topics on the Diablo 4 reddit since Season 5 launched has been related to Infernal Compasses. </p>



<p>In case you weren&#8217;t aware, the compasses are basically the same as Nightmare Dungeon Sigils, just for Infernal Hordes. They open a new run and set the difficulty. Players&#8217; main problem has nothing to do with actual gameplay, however. </p>

<p>Diablo 4 has LONG has a big problem with its inventory. It was the worst at launch and has been steadily improved since then. More and more things were added to the currency/materials tab, but it&#8217;s not that simple for others. The fact that the sigils and compasses have specific individual attributes makes it a tricky proposition to stack them. Each has its own stats and stacking them just wouldn&#8217;t work as they are now. But there definitely has to be some sort of solution. If they were just added as a currency instead, we could just select which one we&#8217;d use from something like the Pit monolith, just for Infernal Hordes.</p>



<p>There&#8217;s plenty of possible solutions, but to see a day when the inventory isn&#8217;t among the most complained-about things in D4 would really be a great one! </p>

Very Common Quality of Life Request: Infernal Compass (and Similar) Stacking!


<p>What pairs well with white and red wine? Diablo 4 cosmetics, apparently! There&#8217;s a promotion in Korea which has in-game skins with a purchase of two different wine bottles.</p>



<p>The Inarius (white, obviously) and Lilith (red) wines even have their own names! There&#8217;s &#8220;Angel&#8217;s Tears&#8221;, the Sauvignon Blanc and &#8220;Demon&#8217;s Blood&#8221; Pinot Noir. Why exactly Inarius gets tears and Lilith gets blood is a little unclear, as they both very much die. </p>

<p>But what about the cosmetics themselves? Well, luckily <a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/sadIRL/">sadIRL</a> shared them. There&#8217;s dagger, two-handed sword, one-handed sword cosmetics to be had! </p>

Diablo 4 Wines With Special Cosmetics in Korea


<p>Here&#8217;s a pretty insane number, especially when it comes to Mythic Uniques! We&#8217;ve seen streamers like Rob <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/the-other-true-mythic-39-mythic-uniques-salvaged-to-create-an-extremely-powerful-grandfather/">burn dozens and dozens of the rarest items in the game</a> trying to get one with some Greater Affixes. But even then, this particular player went above and beyond in one evening! </p>



<p><a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/rrobinson1216/">Rrobinson1216</a> claims to have salvaged 201 Mythics, using their sparks to craft new ones, all in an effort to get some Greater Affixes on the new ones. While there are no screenshots or video provided, there&#8217;s not really a reason to think it&#8217;s not real, as we&#8217;ve seen players with many Mythics. </p>



<p>So, what&#8217;s the answer then? </p>



<p>Three. That&#8217;s right, after salvaging 201 Mythic Uniques, crafting new ones, re-salvaging those and on and on, the end result is literally 3 Greater Affix items. And that&#8217;s only SINGLE GA items! </p>

<p>Now, we don&#8217;t get any details on the specifics, whether they were Shakos or Grandfathers etc. But considering there&#8217;s only a few weeks left in the season, perhaps it wasn&#8217;t a hunt for something specific, but rather just looking for anything good. Or, you know, you have to pass the time until Vessel of Hatred somehow! </p>



<p>Whatever the case may be, it really wasn&#8217;t a good RNG session! </p>


201 Mythic Uniques Salvaged and Re-Crafted – How Many Greater Affixes?

<p>Considering the expansion is coming in less than a month, it&#8217;s a great time to try D4 out if you haven&#8217;t already. Vessel of Hatred brings so many amazing changes, we can&#8217;t wait for it to get here! Hopefully this promotion brings in even more players to the game, as it keeps getting better and better each season.</p>

<p>Vessel of Hatred is getting some slow but steady hype-up, as we&#8217;re getting more and more of Neyrelle&#8217;s pre-expansion story revealed! </p>



<p>Neyrelle&#8217;s Lament is a wonderfully animated short story in which we hear about her perspective on recent events and Sanctuary&#8217;s history. Her journey with the Soulstone is really taking it out of her, as Mephisto&#8217;s hate pours into her. As she struggles, the breaking point of Vessel of Hatred is very much focused: will she make it or will Mephisto take her? Will we have another Dark Wanderer on our hands or something different? </p>



<p>We even get a glimpse of demon Neyrelle, at least in voice form as her recounting gets more and more angry. The short seems to link in directly to the Vessel of Hatred cinematic, as she&#8217;s still on the river. </p>

<p>When Vessel of Hatred releases in a couple of weeks, the Paragon cap will rise to Level 300. Rob&#8217;s here with a useful video and a <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yNVyV50copE_GbTjx_orpzM2qXrwZIHBiWGvnV4Yzyo/edit?gid=84209566#gid=84209566">spreadsheet</a> with the exact XP values needed to reach the new cap and an estimate of how long it will take!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Long Will It Take to Reach the New Paragon Cap?</h2>



<p>Rob assumes you can get <strong>433,941,892 XP</strong> in a<strong> Pit 85</strong> in 1 minute and 45 seconds at maximum efficiency, which you won&#8217;t have at the start when the expansion launches, but with it, it should take around <strong>57.1</strong> hours to reach Paragon 300.</p>



<p>As a benchmark, Rob <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2243992658?t=11h25m46s">used 17 Pit 85 runs</a> from his stream completed between September 6-30.</p>
