Diablo 4 Season 6 Hotfixes: October 20th


<p>After the very vague <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/diablo-4-season-6-hotfixes-october-21st-material-drop-rates-buffed/">hotfix notes from yesterday</a>, players were left wondering: how much did the buff actually change? Luckily we have <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Rob2628">Rob </a>jumping in and looking over all the key activities and sharing the results! </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Material Matters</h2>



<p><a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/icons/2DInventory_Materials_20.webp" alt="Rawhide"><span class="tooltip-spell-name" data-item-type="Crafting Material" data-item-quality="normal">Rawhide</span></span></a> and <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/icons/2DInventory_Materials_18.webp" alt="Iron Chunk"><span class="tooltip-spell-name" data-item-type="Crafting Material" data-item-quality="normal">Iron Chunk</span></span></a> drop rates were buffed in yesterday&#8217;s hotfixes, but there was no word by how much. Well, we now know and it seems pretty significant. Well, for everything except Legion events, which were buffed 10x, but that still makes them pretty much useless &#8211; which shows you just how useless they were before! Every other source of the base materials except for salvage has been majorly buffed and Rob took a look at the end results for the various activities. </p>



<p>There is one key to the numbers, and that&#8217;s the <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/icons/2DInventory_Realm_Walker_3.webp" alt=" Seething Opal of Materials"><span class="tooltip-spell-name" data-item-type="Elixir" data-item-quality="magic"> Seething Opal of Materials</span></span></a>. The rewards that it gives were also buffed in the patch, so if you need Rawhide and Iron Chunks, you always want to have a materials Opal active. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Numbers</h2>



<p>All activities have had their basic material rewards at least doubled. Legion events got the biggest buff but are also the most pointless, at 30 Rawhide per run. The big winner is Whisper Caches, as they now go for around 400+ for basic and up to 900 for legendary caches. This is a little under triple their previous drops. This is especially useful as you can combine them with Helltides, and even get some alts leveled if you want to spend the XP there! </p>



<p>The Realmwalker got his drops quadrupled as he&#8217;s around 400 now and is actually worthwhile. Infernal Hordes are still very random, and they vary from about the same as before to double, at 800. Nightmare dungeons come in at 200, with the Pit at 80-180, but with some fast runs. </p>

<p><br>In conclusion, get those Opals ready!  Farm a whole lot of Whispers, and generally do pretty much any activity you like and you should be ok with the basic mats for a while. At least we don&#8217;t need boss materials to farm the most basic of mats anymore! </p>



<p>So let&#8217;s see if this buff fixes the bottleneck of basic materials! And if it does, is there another one coming to replace them?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Paragon XP</h2>



<p>Rob2628<a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bN8C_Fe9nrWv__jUc_Vdbl220g4NM0mlux-ga_s_-5s/htmlview?gid=1074386454#gid=1074386454"> created a spreadsheet</a>, documenting the most efficient ways of farming Paragon in the ongoing Season, noting that the XP curve needed to reach the next Paragon level exponentially increases at around Paragon Level 250, and to go from 299 to 300, you will need around 1 billion XP.</p>



<p>We only see a few people with Paragon 300 due to how much XP is needed to reach the cap. Here&#8217;s how many hours you can expect to reach the Paragon cap with the most ideal way of XP farming:</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Infernal Hordes: The Most Chill, But Not Effective Way of Farming XP</h2>



<p>Rob argues that <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/infernal-hordes-guide/">Infernal Hordes</a> isn&#8217;t the best way of farming XP and the maximum you&#8217;re going to get is around 250 million per hour. You would need 3 hours per level using that method, but he says it&#8217;s the most &#8220;chill&#8221; version. You&#8217;ll get around <em>half</em> the efficiency you&#8217;d get in Pits.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Pit</h2>



<p>The higher tier you complete in the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/the-pit-of-the-artificers-guide/">Pit</a>, the more XP you will get. There&#8217;s XP from completing the quest and from the pit closing. Here are the exact values taken from Rob&#8217;s spreadsheet:</p>

<p>However, mob health goes up by 25% while the XP doesn&#8217;t go up by as much, so it&#8217;s not worth farming the <strong>highest Pits</strong>. That&#8217;s why Rob recommends running Tier 100-110 pits for efficient XP farming.</p>

Pit 110 Cleared in 42 Seconds!


<p>We have some great news today! After the many complaints by players regarding basic crafting materials, it seems another buff is coming! </p>



<p>Global Director of Community Adam Fletcher announced that Rawhide and Iron Chunks will be getting adjusted with a hotfix at the start of the week. It&#8217;s unclear what exactly is changing, whether itps their drop rates or perhaps the material costs, but we&#8217;re expecting a substantial improvement. There was a buff to their drop rates already in the most recent patch, but it was not enough. And so this one should be more major, but we&#8217;ll have ti wait and see. </p>

Rawhide and Iron Chunk Buffs Coming With Hotfix!


<p>The Spiritborn are getting their own empty items! </p>



<p>A long time ago we got a glimpse at the first newly-added Mythic Unique, <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/icons/2DInventory_Staff_47.webp" alt="Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander"><span class="tooltip-spell-name" data-item-type="Staff" data-item-quality="mythic">Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander</span></span></a> via a weird placeholder item. While the bugged item wasn&#8217;t the actual spear, it did use its unique art. Blizzard quickly clarified and removed the item from dropping, but now we have another! </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Spiritborn PH</h2>



<p>The new Vessel of Hatred class now has its own little anomaly! The Spiritborn-specific glaive weapon type has its mystery item, as <a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/GuyIncognit0/">GuyIncognit0</a> found one. And it was in a very specific way too, as a fetish swam event happened during a Whisper, as the player got a &#8220;&lt;Character name> is being hunted&#8221; chat event and proceeded to be swarmed by fetishes! It seems this very unique event may have contributed to the Unique glaive being bugged:</p>

<p><br>While the item isn&#8217;t exactly usable, it&#8217;s definitely a novelty and cool to keep around. It truly is unique! </p>


The Placeholders Are Back! Unique Glaive With No Stats Drops Off Fetish Swarm


<p>We&#8217;ve already talked about how players are desperate for Rawhide at the moment. The basic material has been in very short supply since the 2.0/Vessel of Hatred changes, and even the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/increased-rawhide-and-iron-coming-with-season-6-patch-2-0-3-later-this-week/">recent buff to salvage amounts</a> has not changed anything. Luckily, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Rob2628">Rob</a> took a look at the situation and found some great spots to farm. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Rawest of Hides Required</h2>



<p>Forget Obducite and gold, it&#8217;s the basic materials that are in extremely short supply in the masterworking process. And since Rawhide is required for all armor rolls, that is currently the main bottleneck for all players. Even those with only a few masterworked items! One of the main reasons players find themselves in this predicament seems to be either a change or bug in Legion events. Previously, they dropped around 800 Rawhide/Chunks per event, and now it&#8217;s down to around 3. So, considering all this, where do we go to get some more?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tormented Bosses</h2>

<p>As Rob explains in the video below, there are a few places, depending on the other resources you have. Specifically, boss summoning materials. As it turns out, Tormented bosses are the best source of Rawhide at the moment. However, your ability to farm them is entirely dependent on how many summoning materials you have and, more importantly, whether you can find a group to do summon runs with, as that quadruples your loot. Also, for all of these methods you&#8217;ll want to do them on as high a difficulty as you can. </p>



<p>The reason the bosses are so good for the base material is due to Ancestral Legendaries, Uniques and especially Ancestral Uniques salvaging for a lot of them. This is also why the Beast in Ice is at the very top of the Rawhide chain, as it drops the most armor items, which salvage into Rawhide. Any weapons and jewelry will not help with our raw quest. Lord Zir is next in line, and Duriel is in third place. All the bosses are between around 8,000 and 9,200 Rawhide per hour. However, if you don&#8217;t have access to a lot of summoning materials and/or groups, there is an alternative. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Temple of Rot</h2>

<p>There might be a catch to the second-best farm spot. The Temple of Rot stronghold is pretty close to the Tormented bosses, but you need to have not cleared it on your character. If you have, you can always find another player who hasn&#8217;t and proceed that way, or try on an alt that hasn&#8217;t cleared it/make a new one. You could even use the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/level-1-to-60-in-10-seconds-with-some-preparation/">instant-lelvel-60 method using Tree of Whispers caches</a> to do it! </p>

<p>In any case, the Temple is a very simple run as you just head to the chest above, open it, and get 50 Rawhide (on T4). Since it&#8217;s a very short reset and doesn&#8217;t require any mats, you can do a lot of these runs, resulting in around 6,000 Rawhide per hour. The chest is in the top left of the stronghold, right next to the bell you use when you finish it:</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Rest</h2>



<p>The rest of the options are much less profitable. Whisper caches and Helltides bring in less than a third of the Temple each, let alone the bosses. However, you can combine them. Obviously their results are significantly better that way &#8211; not to mention you get other loot as well. Combined they come in at around 4k. The Whisper caches can also be a nice short-term option as you gather them to level an alt in case you&#8217;ve cleared the Temple, though. Infernal Hordes and Nightmare Dungeons are not great, coming in around 2-2.5k.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s another quite annoying bug, this time relating to one of the Tormented endboss summons. </p>



<p>The Beast in Ice is summoned by using <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/icons/2DInventory_Quest_MiscTrinkets_46.webp" alt="Distilled Fear"><span class="tooltip-spell-name" data-item-type="Summoning" data-item-quality="normal">Distilled Fear</span></span></a> at the altar. In one of the better updates, Blizzard made the altar reusable so players don&#8217;t have to reset the dungeon every time they want to re-summon the boss. It seems this change from Season 5 did have some unintended consequences, however. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Sneaky Beast</h2>



<p>As showcased by <a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/Onsokomaru/">Onsokomaru</a>, the beast sometimes just does not spawn after depositing the fear into the altar. It&#8217;s not a very common occurrence, but losing any amount of boss mats, especially if you&#8217;re running solo, is always a problem. </p>



<p>There may be a way to see it coming, however. <a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/Onsokomaru/">Onsokomaru</a> explains that it seems like when the bug is active and you&#8217;re about to lose the summoning materials you&#8217;re putting in, the frozen people around the altar won&#8217;t respawn. This means the dungeon wasn&#8217;t properly reset and so that&#8217;s why the summoning won&#8217;t work. The solution is simple, as you just leave and re-enter the dungeon. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/Problesz/">Problesz</a> also added that the bug/non-reset may also be visible if the altar is active, AKA red and smoky with ashes in it. The frozen people seem like an easier thing to spot, but either works. </p>
