Diablo 4 Shop Faces Overhaul Under New EU Laws

Tejal, Shop Vendor NPC by Adrienne Lange

Blizzard may be forced to make big changes to Diablo 4’s in-game shop thanks to new EU regulations from the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC).

These laws supposedly aim to increase transparency around virtual currencies like Platinum and are already impacting how several games handle shop pricing for players across Europe.

Here is what this could mean for Diablo 4:

  • Real-money prices must be shown.
If a transmog set costs 2,600 Platinum, the shop must also show the euro equivalent, like €26.
  • No more inflated bundles.
Bonus currency (like “+300 free Platinum”) has to reflect its true value, and prices must be accurate, not hidden behind virtual numbers.
  • No leftover currency traps.
Players must be able to buy the exact amount of Platinum needed for an item; no more overpaying just to get one thing.

Why This Is Happening

The CPC recently outlined seven key principles that apply to all games using in-game currencies:

  • Real prices must always be shown in euros.
  • Games must not force you to buy more currency than needed.
  • All terms must be fair, clear, and not take away consumer rights.
  • Parental controls and protections for kids and high spenders are encouraged.

These rules apply across the EU and are backed by existing consumer laws.

What Could Change in Diablo 4

  • Pricing may get more honest and transparent.
  • But Blizzard could remove bundle deals or raise prices to offset revenue loss.
  • Some cosmetics might get even more expensive.

This change is about protecting players from misleading pricing tactics, but it might also change how cosmetic pricing works in the long run.

Of course, for now, these rules only apply within the EU, but they could set the tone for global changes if other regions follow suit.
