Diablo IV is Going to Be Way Harder in Season 8: Massive Pit Difficulty Increase

Staff Avatar by Staff

With the upcoming Season 8, Diablo IV is taking a slightly different approach to difficulty.

Pit Difficulty Increase

Blizzard is not only increasing the challenge of Torment IV and slowing down the leveling process, but they are also making Pits much tougher. In the latest Campfire Chat, Blizzard mentioned that Pit 150 is currently designed to be unachievable, and they have drastically increased the health scaling of monsters inside them.

Rob took a look at the numbers, and here’s what some of the new health multipliers would look like with the upcoming scaling according to his spreadsheet:

Pit LevelHP Difference
605.58X
707.43X
809.89X
13041.43X
14055.17X
15073.47X

These changes really sound like Blizzard doesn’t want us to clear the highest Pit level any time soon. Especially considering the heavy nefs to some of the dominating specs like Blood Wave Necromancer, Cataclysm Druid and HotA Quake Barb.

If you want to learn more about these changes, check out Rob’s video and his difficulty curve spreadsheet for a detailed breakdown:

Are the Changes Good or Bad?

So what would be the positives and negatives about these drastic changes to the game? Let’s try to break it down a little bit.

Positives:

  • The increased difficulty makes high-level content more engaging for dedicated players.
  • Players who enjoy pushing limits will have more satisfying progression. They might even find more creative ways to overcome the new difficulty.
  • It might be a long-term goal for many to get as high as possible, increasing the longevity of a season.

Negatives:

  • Some players have already voiced concerns that progression may become too difficult, leading to frustration or exclusion from high-level content.
  • Seasonal rewards may be locked behind higher difficulties, making it harder for casual players to obtain them.
  • Players might lose motivation to push forward if the highest Pit level is deemed impossible to complete.

With the new changes to Pits we are really looking forward to seeing what builds the community are coming up with to push as high as possible. Would it be a good time to finally implement an official Pit-Leaderboard?
