The loot is certainly flowing very freely in the Season of Witchcraft. However, one thing that isn’t is, well, certain Witchcraft powers! The Lost powers that only come from Forgotten Altars seem to be giving players some trouble, as their spawn rates are low. So let’s take a look at how to increase our odds to find them!
Spawn Chances and Difficulty
The first thing you need to do is pretty simple. It’s basically the same as with any other thing you want to find in Diablo 4: increase the difficulty level. While these aren’t officially confirmed, the community seems to think the Altars have a 1%/2%/3%/5% chance of spawning on Torment 1/2/3/4. So the higher you go in the Torment levels, the higher your chances of finding them.
Where to Find Them
Most players that did get the powers found them in either Nightmare Dungeons or The Pit. However, there are also those that talk about them being able to appear in any instanced part of the game. That would include Rootholds (which makes sense since they’re basically NMDs), Cellars, Kurast Undercity, etc. There’s also a discussion on whether the chances are increased in Nightmare Dungeons specifically since Blizzard only mentioned those as the source in official posts. Currently, players are talking about the odds being doubled in Nightmare Dungeons, so 2/4/6/10%. This has not been confirmed, however. Another reason why so many players report getting theirs from the Pit is that the runs there are very fast and players tend to run a lot of them, as opposed to NMDs.
The Final Piece to the Puzzle
There is one thing that’s guaranteed to increase your changes at finding the altars. The Draught of Whispers will double your chances of finding the Forgotten Altars! Unfortunately, you can’t craft these as they only drop from specific sources. These are any Whisper Caches, the Coven Caches that are rewarded from ranking up, and from Exposed Roots in Headhunt zones.
So good luck finding the altars! If you need a look at the Lost powers you can gain (and all other Witchraft powers), head on over here.
