How to Use Experience Wells: Is a Working One More Rare Than a Mythic Unique?

Staff Avatar by Staff

Here’s a particularly interesting subject, which seems to also be particularly subjective in nature.

What Are XP Wells?

Have you ever seen an Experience Well? They’re mostly found in Nightmare Dungeons and marked with an XP icon on the minimap. If you’re able to click it you get a 15% XP buff for one hour. However, for a lot of players, they simply do not work. Since the start of the season a lot of players have mostly run into “empty” wells. They’re still marked on the map, but once you get to them and clear the enemies there, they’re just non-functional, but otherwise look the same as working ones. But it seems this is not the case for everyone!

The Rare Default Working One

PR1MEX posted about finding one that works and how for them it’s basically as rare as a Mythic Unique drop. That sounds about right to us as well, but to our surprise, many in the comments responded that they work 9 out of 10 times!

The new patch didn’t seem to change anything on the subject either. There are also reports of other players very rarely getting one that works post 2.0.5. The wells themselves are pretty cool, as you can just do some NMDs, grab a long buff, and head to some Pit runs for XP.

How to Make Them Always Work

The reason they don’t work has something to do with the blood blister containers surrounding them. As you can see below, the versions with three surrounding containers seem to not work, while those with one do. However, all of them could be made to work if you don’t immediately blast the containers when you get to them. If you do it more carefully and don’t AoE them down, some players reported they are always usable. It seems you can’t destroy all three at the same time, there must be some space between them being destroyed, and then they should work!
