A few days ago we talked about the only recently spotted post-credits scene. The next day, there were reports of three more datamined post-credits scenes, each with another very brief view of a demon. The news of Diablo 4 having more than one post-credits scene spread to several other sites as well.
The Three Short Scenes
As I watched these newly datamined scenes I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had seen them before. And after a little digging, it turned out that I had indeed. They do very much exist and are certainly in the game files. However, they are actually part of the final Lilith encounter cinematic. The very brief glimpses do look like the actual post-credits scene that is in the game, but they’re just images of Mephisto that we see flashes of as Lilith sits defeated and warns us about him:
The Actual Post-Credits Scene
And so there is only one post-credits scene after all, and it’s this one, as shared by AnActualSadTaco:
Who Is the Demon in the Post-Credits Scene?
This doesn’t change anything about the rampant speculation on who this post-credits demon is. It would be slightly strange if it was just Mephisto again, and it doesn’t really look like the other flashes we see of him either. It also doesn’t really look like Diablo or Baal, unless they significantly changed their looks. Both current front-runners in the “who’s the red one” theory department offer potentially very interesting stories. They both have direct ties to the main story of Diablo 4, and so it would make sense that they would awaken after the events that took place.
The first is a reborn Inarius in Hell, which is a little far-fetched, but would certainly both be a complex and interesting take, and give the character some more screen time, which some felt he lacked in the core game. The second is Lucion, Mephisto’s son, who would bring an even more interesting story with him. His last known fate is that he was quite literally erased from existence by one of the first Nephalem, Uldyssian, over three millennia ago. Since it’s not really explained what that meant exactly (Uldyssian simply imagined Lucion to be nothing and the demon disappeared) his return would be very interesting and could touch on the true Nephalem powers that were taken away by… you guessed it, Inarius.

Of course, it could still be just a new demon that is rising and we will have to take on. Or any number of other things. We’ll just keep hoping it is either Inarius or Lucion, as we’d love to see both of those storylines developed.
