Season 4 Gem Hunt: Discover the Ultimate Spots for Gem and Gem Fragment Farming!

Starym Avatar by Starym

With Loot Reborn skyrocketing players to high levels and tons of gear very quickly, there are some new bottlenecks appearing in Diablo 4’s latest season. Gold has been an issue for some time, with Blizzard partially addressing it, but another is high level gems.

So where exactly can you find some of those sweet, sweet gem fragments needed to craft gems? Well, in general they drop all over the place from elites, but there is one specific type of mob that you can farm. First spotted by Shrukn, “Champion” monsters have a 100% drop rate for gem fragments. But what are Champions you may ask. Well, it’s the big purple glow-y enemies in the open world that give those around them damage resistance:

The easiest place to find them is in the PvP zones around the map, if you don’t want to just run around the Helltide. Helltides might be a little worse for them specifically, as there’s always a lot of other players around.

There’s also an alternative if you don’t like running around the open world. You can try farming the Malignant Burrow right next to the Tree of Whispers. There’s only a few monsters in there, but it seems a Champion is either always or at least very frequently there. It’s a very short run so you can re-do it fast with the Reset Dungeons button in the quests side-tab on the map screen.

So thanks to Shrukn for giving all gem-seekers the heads up, and thanks to liftizzle for the Burrow tip as well!
