Spiritborn “Locked” Issue and Solution

Update: Blizzard have found a possible cause to the Spiritborn and the expansion in general being locked for Xbox players:


We have become aware of the possibility where players could purchase a Standard to Ultimate upgrade without owning the necessary Standard Edition of Vessel of Hatred.

Players can fix this by purchasing the Standard Edition of the game which will complete the upgrade to Ultimate Edition.

Afterwards, Xbox users can follow these instructions below to download the final content package if you still have the Spiritborn locked.

  1. Hover over the D4 Icon
  2. Press Start
  3. Select Manage Game Add-Ons
  4. Select D4 Base Game
  5. Select Manage Installation on internal storage
  6. Check the Vessel of Hatred Expansion Pack check box hit
  7. Hit Save Changes

Players have been having issues playing the new Spiritborn class since the expansion launch. Luckily, Blizzard have a solution for you if you’re affected by the bug. You do need the expansion purchased to access it, however.

And here’s a more detailed option for Xbox users:


Players who have the Spiritborn locked on Xbox will need to check for an add-on (10.1MB) for Vessel of Hatred and ensure they have that downloaded.

  1. Hover over the D4 Icon
  2. Press Start
  3. Select Manage Game Add-Ons
  4. Select D4 Base Game
  5. Select Manage Installation on internal storage
  6. Check the Vessel of Hatred Expansion Pack check box hit
  7. Hit Save Changes

I do want to make sure – Players need to buy Vessel of Hatred on each platform they want to play the Spiritborn.

Just to confirm – Are users playing on a platform w/o Vessel of Hatred purchased but purchased on a different platform? You must own it on multiple platforms for Spiritborn to be available on each platform.
