It’s down! Echo of Lilith has fallen on hardcore for the first time! The boss was disabled for a while and returned only yesterday. Liquid’s Ben_ has taken the final challenge of Diablo 4 down. He did it by using an extremely powerful snapshotting technique/creative use of game mechanics on his Whirlwind Barbarian.
The part you don’t see in that kill clip is the warmup in phase 1, as Ben_ just Whirldwinds for a while to build up the damage:
As you can see, even with the buildup, the fight is over extremely quickly. The basically infinitely stacking Whirlwind damage just destroys her. This is done by snapshotting a stacking damage buff that Whirlwind receives from Wrath of the Berserker’s Supreme Wrath of the Berserker upgrade, as the damage is meant to stop increasing once it ends… but it sometimes just doesn’t. So as long as you keep Whirlwinding, the damage keeps on stacking up. Obviously there are many more parts to this, with the extremely powerful gear Ben_ has acquired and other stacking Whirldwind buffs, but it’s the infinitely stacking damage buff that’s the key here.
Blizzard have since disabled one of the aspects Ben_ used, which may have caused the stacking.
