1.

Introduction to Beastmaster (BM)

In Final Fantasy XIV, the Beastmaster role is a DPS (damage dealer) class focused on controlling, summoning, and commanding beasts in combat. Traditionally in MMOs, Beastmasters control pets or companions to fight alongside them, and they may have abilities that enhance their bonds with the beasts.

2.

Role & Gameplay

  • Primary Role: DPS (Damage Dealer)
  • Playstyle: Beastmasters have a hybrid playstyle where they deal damage via both their own attacks and the attacks of their summoned beast(s). There is an emphasis on positioning, timing, and managing the actions of your pet.
  • Primary Resources: The Beastmaster has a pet energy system (a form of "pet resource" like Bard’s songs or Summoner’s Aetherflow) that allows them to unleash powerful attacks or utility abilities.
  • Pet Management: Beastmaster comes with a unique pet system, allowing you to summon different beasts with various abilities that complement your own.
3.

Key Abilities & Skills

3.1.

Basic Abilities

  • Call Beast (Level 1): Summon a beast companion to fight alongside you. The beast's type vary depending on your actions, changing into different "beast types" like wolves, birds, or even more exotic creatures.
  • Strike of the Beast (Level 10): You and your beast perform a joint strike. Deals physical damage to the target and has a chance to apply a debuff that weakens the target.
  • Beast’s Fury (Level 30): Temporarily empower your beast, increasing its attack speed and damage for a short duration.
  • Command: Savage Bite (Level 40): Command your pet to bite the target, dealing damage based on the Beast's current level of bonding with you.
  • Bestial Bond (Level 50): A passive or active ability that strengthens the connection between you and your pet, increasing your pet's damage and granting you access to powerful combos when attacking together.
  • Primal Roar (Level 60): A mighty roar that stuns enemies in the area and boosts your and your pet’s damage for a short time.
3.2.

Advanced Abilities

  • Wild Command (Level 70): Allows you to control a stronger beast, like a beastlord. This could let you summon a higher-level pet that has additional abilities, potentially with a longer cooldown.
  • Unleash the Beast (Level 80): Significantly buffs your and your pet's damage for a limited time. During this time, both of you deal enhanced damage, and your pet gains a more powerful version of a certain skill.
  • Titan’s Call (Level 90): Summon a mighty beast (e.g., a massive beast or primal creature) to aid in battle. This could temporarily replace your standard pet and offer a massive burst of damage or utility.
3.3.

Utility and Support Abilities

  • Beastly Defense (Level 25): Enhance your pet's defenses for a short time, granting it more health, damage reduction, or crowd control immunity.
  • Pack Mentality (Level 50): Buffs nearby allies, increasing their attack speed and damage. The buff could be linked to your bond with your pet, enhancing the connection between party members.
  • Beast’s Blessing (Level 90): A healing/utility ability, where your beast provides an AoE healing aura to nearby party members, offering restoration based on their missing health.
4.

Pets & Pet Types

Beastmaster will likely feature a variety of different pets with different characteristics. These pets will probably have unique moves and abilities tied to their type.

4.1.

Examples of Pets

  • Wolf: A standard melee pet with fast attacks and a chance to inflict debuffs like Bleed.
  • Bird: A ranged pet with high mobility and support abilities, possibly offering buffs or minor healing.
  • Bear: A tank-like pet, likely to take damage for you and draw the enemy’s attention.
  • Serpent: Could specialize in poison, offering damage over time debuffs to enemies.
  • Rhino: A strong tank pet with crowd control abilities, potentially charging into enemies and causing knockbacks.
5.

Rotation & Playstyle

  • Start by summoning your pet using Call Beast.
  • Use abilities like Strike of the Beast and Bestial Bond to enhance your connection with your pet.
  • Use your pet’s abilities to deal additional damage or debuff the target.
  • Once you have your Beast's Fury or Wild Command up, use them to boost your and your pet’s output.
  • Watch your Beast Bond status to ensure you and your pet are synergizing well.
  • Use Unleash the Beast and Primal Roar during burst phases to maximize damage.
5.1.

Pet Role in Combat

  • Your pet will act as an additional source of DPS, with some pets also providing utility like stuns, debuffs, or healing.
  • You may need to monitor your pet's positioning to ensure it’s dealing damage optimally and staying alive. In tough situations, you may need to command it to focus on specific mechanics (e.g., tanking a damage dealer boss or interrupting certain abilities).
5.2.

Conclusion

April Fools! While all of us here at Icy Veins wish Beastmaster was already out, we unfortunately still need to wait a little longer for the content to release. Good luck with the raid tier, we'll see you again when Beastmaster hits live servers for real!
