Changes to FFXIV in Patch 7.1

Patch Schedule

There will be several updates to old systems that were left by the wayside as FFXIV evolved over the past decade in Patch 7.1.

2.1.

Hall of the Novice Updates

Hall of the Novice

In Patch 7.1, the Hall of the Novice will receive an update to align the material taught with the modern landscape of FFXIV duties. Basic explanations of common fight markers will be introduced to sprouts so that they understand the indicators for mechanics like spread, stack, and tank busters. This will be available starting at Level 49 before new players gain access to ARR endgame content, though it is not mandatory for progression. Descriptions for standard mechanics have also been added so players can refer to them anytime.

2.2.

Duty Support Updates

The developers have announced that they will begin adding Duty Support for dungeons not featured in the main scenario, beginning with the dungeon Halatali in Patch 7.1.

2.3.

Doman Mahjong Updates

Players will be able to purchase Scion voice lines for Doman Mahjong with MGP in Patch 7.1.

2.4.

Housing Updates

Housing Changes

A few housing upgrades will be made in Patch 7.1. First, the pillars in the interior will be removed, granting more space. Next, new interior designs will be added and available for purchase. Finally, though this is not slated for Patch 7.1, the developers are considering allowing homeowners to change the internal size of a house with a cost attached.

2.5.

Miscellaneous Updates

Besides the aforementioned system updates, there are a few other miscellaneous updates that aim to improve player quality-of-life and gameplay.

  1. Outfit glamours have been added, allowing players to store specific combinations of gear in the glamour dresser as a single slot.
  2. Players can now copy all settings to another character using Character Data Sync in-game.
  3. The duty list can now display up to 10 quests at a time.
  4. Tilt configuration has been added, allowing characters to tilt while turning.
  5. Further graphical adjustments have been made. A free Fantasia will be available through Patch 7.1x.
  6. FFXIV will be having an outfit collaboration with War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game. Two outfits will be available in the FFXIV Online Store in December.
3.

Patch 7.1 Job Changes

Patch 7.1 is confirmed to have job balance updates, but they were not discussed in detail during the first live letter. The developers have stated they are actively avoiding nerfs to jobs and instead are looking to buff underperforming jobs within roles. More details will come in the next live letter.

PvP Updates in Patch 7.1

PvP slide

PvP game modes will be receiving multiple changes. Of major note is the netcode change detailed below, but there will be large balance updates to PvP actions and limit breaks in Crystalline Conflict, Frontlines, and Rival Wings. In addition, PvP Series 7 will begin.

Crystalline Conflict will be receiving some major changes. There are some balance updates to two of the maps: Cloud Nine and Red Sands. Cloud Nine will have more objects and barriers scattered across the map, while Red Sands will have more paths added to simplify entering battle after spawning. Next, the ranked system will be determined per region rather than per data centre. This means that ranked matches will be held in one data centre per region. The Season 12 data centres are as follows.

  • North America: Primal
  • Europe: Chaos
  • Japan: Gaia
  • Oceania: Materia

Finally, due to this change, the number of placements for rewards has been changed from 1-100 to 1-300 for all regions except for Oceania.

PvP slide

Many players have complained about the poor netcode that plagues FFXIV PvP. As such, the developers have made changes to hit detection to allow players to be more reactive to animations and casts. This won't prevent latency from being a perennial problem in FFXIV's gameplay, but will at least allow players to have a better time in PvP.
