Overview of Glamour in FFXIV
This page contains information about the Glamour system, which players can use to give equipment the appearance of other equipment. Here, you will find information on how to unlock glamour, how to cast glamour, and how to use glamour plates to make entire outfits.
Glamour
Glamours are Final Fantasy XIV's appearance change system, allowing players to modify the appearance of their equipment. By glamouring gear, you can equip your strongest gear and look fashionable while doing so!
In addition to changing the appearance of equipment, you can change the colour palette by applying dyes to it. These two systems work in tandem, so you can change both the appearance and colour of your gear! To learn more about Dyes, visit our dedicated page explaining how to dye your gear.
How to Unlock Glamour
To unlock glamour, you must first complete a sidequest - either "If I Had a Glamour", from Swyrgeim at Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan, or "A Self-improving Man" from Wiscard in Mor Dhona. These are very simple quests and take no time at all to complete. It is likely you run into the one in Vesper Bay first.
How to Glamour Gear
In order to glamour a piece of gear, you highlight the item and select Cast Glamour from the subcommands. There are a few requirements for you to glamour gear.
- You must possess a Glamour Prism in your inventory.
- Both items must be of the same type.
- Both items must be equippable by the same gender and race.
- Both items must be equippable by the same class or job. For example, you cannot glamour Fending gear over Healing gear.
- The level restriction of the gear being glamoured must be lower than the gear taking its appearance. For example, you cannot glamour a level 70 weapon over a level 60 weapon.
If the gear you are glamouring meets those requirements, you are good to go! Simply select the gear you want to glamour over on the left side of the menu, and the select the appearance you want on the right side of the menu. Select Cast to confirm the glamour! Glamouring equipment will cost one Glamour Prism.
After casting a glamour, both items will be spiritbound to you if they were not already. There is no limit to how many times you can glamour your gear.
How to Remove Glamour
In the same vein that equipment can be glamoured, players can remove glamour cast on an item. To do so, open the Cast Glamour menu and select a menu. On the right side, there is an option to Remove the glamour. You must have a Glamour Dispeller in your inventory.
Where to Acquire Glamour Prisms and Dispellers
A Glamour Prism can be acquired through a variety of means. However, the easiest way to acquire prisms en masse is to purchase them with Grand Company Seals. Listed below are the primary methods to acquire Glamour Prisms.

- Purchased with Bicolor Gemstones;
- Rewarded from sidequests;

- Etc. drops from a dungeon.
A Glamour Dispeller is easier to acquire, as they can be bought with gil, but there are a few other ways to get them.
- Purchased from vendors in most major cities;
- Purchased with Grand Company Seals;
- Purchased with Bicolor Gemstones;
- Rewarded from sidequests;
- Purchased from the Marketboard;

Glamour Dresser
The Glamour Dresser is a system where you can store equipment inside a dresser to use in glamours. Glamour Dressers are available in Inn Rooms in all major cities. It can store up to 400 items, and can be retrieved at any times. There are a few requirements for storing items in the Glamour Dresser.
- You must possess a Glamour Prism in your inventory.
- The gear must have a condition of 100% or higher.
Storage will cost one Glamour Prism. Upon storage, the gear will have its customization such as materia, signature if applicable, and aetherial bonuses removed. In addition, its spiritbond will be reduced to 0%. Taking the item out of the dresser will be spiritbound to you upon removal.
In order to cast glamours from the Glamour Dresser, highlight the item inside the Glamour Dresser and select Apply Glamour. This has the same restrictions as casting glamour normally, except it does not cost a Glamour Prism.
To restore the item, highlight the item inside the Glamour Dresser and select Restore Item.
The Glamour Dresser is primarily used to make Glamour Plates. However, it can also be used to store gear if you are running out of storage space.
Glamour Plates
Glamour Plates are a system where you can create entire sets of glamoured gear and switch to them with a single command. You can store up to fifteen plates at once.
To edit a Glamour Plate, select Edit Glamour Plate in the Glamour Dresser menu. This will bring up a list of your Glamour Plates. To assign an item, select the item slot and select the item in your Glamour Dresser you wish to occupy that slot. You do not have to fill every slot in order to use the plate. Once you are satisfied with your glamour, you can Save the plate, or apply it directly to your currently equipped gear. Apart from not costing a Glamour Prism, all the restrictions related to glamouring still apply.
Glamour Plates can be applied but not edited from the Plate Selection menu, which can be accessed in the Character menu. You can only apply plates in major cities.
