Monk DPS Gear and Best in Slot — Dawntrail 7.0
On this page, you will find the best gear and best-in-slot items for your Monk DPS in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (Patch 7.0).
Monk Gear Sets (BiS)
This section covers the endgame best-in-slot gear options for Monk in various different endgame encounters.
Monk has three ideal GCD tiers it can play at; 2.00, 1.94 and 1.93. 955 Skill Speed is required to reach 1.94 GCD, with 1083 being the number for a 1.93 GCD. The reason we aim for these is so that our rotation can flow as cleanly as possible with minimal Riddle of Fire or Brotherhood drift.
Having a 2.00 GCD is only attainable if a given raid tier offers us the correct gear choices - which is to say 0 skillspeed on any of our pieces. Where this is not attainable, we are aiming for 1.94/1.93 instead. Keep in mind that when playing a 2.00 GCD, it is considerably harder to hit 11 GCDs in Riddle of Fire. It is also important to know that because 2.00 is reliant on the gear available in a given patch, there will not always be a 2.00 BiS set.
If you are currently gearing up your Monk, you can find more information about the stat priorities and effects in our guide's melding section.
It is possible that the BiS sets for past Ultimate encounters will have changed slightly in Dawntrail - these sets will be updated as and when we find the new optimal gearsets.
Best in Slot by Encounter
Savage — 1.94 GCD
Savage (Samurai Compatible) — 1.94 GCD
Pre-savage Crafted — 1.94 GCD
Keep in mind that while this pre-savage crafted set is a good starting point, the moment you get even a single raid drop / tome piece of gear the optimal melds on each piece will change.
You can either re-calculate your BiS and remeld everything, or simply leave it as is until you reach full BiS.
Even if you choose not to remeld most pieces, if the pieces you gain end up giving you/costing you skillspeed and your GCD tier changes, it is recommended to at least remeld enough to attain either a 1.94/1.93 GCD tier.
