Novus Weapons Relic Guide in FFXIV

The Novus Relic stage is the 5th stage in the Zodiac Saga and continues to upgrade your weapon bringing along a new glow. The amount of time taken to complete this stage can vary drastically depending on which method you use as well as if you have Allied Seals available.

Upgrading to a Novus Zodiac Weapon

To begin the Novus Zodiac Weapon stage, speak again to Jalzahn over in Hyrstmill with your Animus Weapon equipped to accept the quest Celestial Radiance. This quest essentially gives you an outline of what this upgrade will involve as well as requiring you to purchase 3 Superior Enchanted Ink Icon Superior Enchanted Ink for 25 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics per Ink. Once this quest is completed, players are given a Sphere Scroll.

The next quest then begins with Star Light, Star Bright where you ue your Sphere Scroll to upgrade your Animus Weapon.

You can meld materia to the Sphere Scroll to customize the secondary stats of your weapon while upgrading it. I would not personally recommend worrying about the substat distribution because this weapon is entirely for cosmetics. Instead, use whatever materia is cheapest.

Initially, only grade I materia can be used, but as you add more of a specific stat higher grades are needed. While you only need 75 materia to complete this step, you will lose some of the materia you attempt to meld much like overmelding.

Melding materia to your Sphere Scroll also requires a catalyst called Alexandrite Icon Alexandrite, this is not lost if you lose a materia but each Relic Weapon will need 75 Alexandrite.

How to Obtain Alexandrite

75 Alexandrite is required for each weapon with that split 53:22 for Paladin's Sword & Shield. Alexandrite can be obtained in three ways:

  • Random drop when completing FATEs with your Animus Weapon equipped with a Gold Rating.
  • Purchased for 50 Allied Seals each (3,750 total).
  • 5 Dropped per Mysterious Map Icon Mysterious Maps.

Mysterious Map Icon Mysterious Maps can be purchased for 75 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics each or rewarded from a daily quest Morbid Motivation which requires you to do a specific roulette.

Maps are the fastest way generally to gain the 75 Alexandrite however you may already have plenty of spare Allied Seals from The Hunt and Blue Mage's Masked Carnivale which can speed up the process.

Once you have completed your Sphere Scroll, return to Jalzahn with your Animus Weapon unequipped to receive your Novus Zodiac Weapon. It is now time to move onto the Nexus step.
