Recollection Trial Guide
Welcome to our guide to Recollection, the fourth normal trial of Dawntrail released in Patch 7.2 Seekers of Eternity. This guide aims to prepare players for the encounter so they will know what to expect, with simple mechanic instructions and notes on what to watch out for.
Introduction to Recollection

Calyx's trail has led you to Alexandria's castle and into a wicked trap. Seeking to take more precise measurements of your strength, Calyx pits you against a mechanical guardian forged from Sphene's memories of Zelenia, the second-in-command of the royal knights. The queen implores you to lay this affront to her dear friend's honor to rest. Make ready to test your mettle against one of Alexandria's finest blades!
Unlock Requirements
Recollection can be unlocked in Patch 7.2 during the main scenario quest "Descent to the Foundation." It is the fourth normal trial players will encounter in Dawntrail and is located in Solution Nine. Players above Level 100 will be level synced to Level 100 when entering.
Zelenia Trial Guide
Phase One
Zelenia is fought in a circular arena with a wall.
Phase One Mechanics
Zelenia introduces the following mechanics in the first phase.
- Alexandrian Thunder IV: Two rings form around her. The inner ring indicates a point-blank AoE, and the outer ring indicates a donut AoE. These will go off in the order they spawned.
- Shock: All players receive a marked AoE that counts down. Once it finishes, it leaves behind a puddle that ticks repeatedly for damage.
- Power Break: Zelenia holds her blade towards one side of the arena, cleaving that side.
- Holy Hazard: Zelenia shows indicators for two sets of two 120 degree cleaves opposite of each other. These will go off in the order they spawned.
- Specter of the Lost: A physical conal tank buster on both tanks.
- Thunder Slash: Conal AoEs go off in sequence accompanied with Alexandrian Thunder IV. Dodge out or in while avoiding the cones.
Phase One Strategy
- The first phase introduces all the mechanics that will be used repeatedly throughout the fight. Use this opportunity to learn how to dodge the mechanics.
- You can move out for Shock right as the countdown above your head finishes. Just make sure to spread out and not move into someone else's puddle.
- Thunder Slash conal AoEs are fairly slow, so worry about dodging the in/out first.
- After the second Holy Hazard, Zelenia will use her full power and knock players back from the middle, beginning the cutscene transition to phase two.
Phase Two
Zelenia will begin using Bloom abilities in phase two, changing the arena. Whenever she does, the middle will contain a small puddle that inflicts a potent Bleed debuff. In addition, the arena will be divided and certain slices will have a rose pattern.
Phase Two Mechanics
Zelenia introduces the following mechanics in the second phase.
- Roseblood Bloom: Zelenia changes the arena and spawns several Rose patterns onto specific slices. These Rose tiles will copy whatever mechanic hits the conal tile on the entire tile as well as any connected Rose tiles.
- Alexandrian Thunder III: Spawns ground circle AoEs that explode in order. AoEs that explode while touching a Rose tile will cause that tile to explode in the same AoE.
- Stock Break: A mulit-hit stack marker on a healer that hits four times.
- Roseblood Drop: Spawns an orb that slowly moves towards a tile, turning it into a Rose tile.
- Valorous Ascension: Summons Briar Thorns at the edge of the arena that do a line AoE across the arena. Also deals two instances of raidwide physical damage.
- Thorned Catharsis: Raidwide magical damage.
Phase Two Strategy
- For the first Roseblood Bloom, Zelenia is showing you how the mechanic works. Avoid standing on Rose tiles and watch the AoEs explode them.
- For the second Roseblood Bloom, there will be a safe tile on the safe side from Power Break. Move around the middle puddle when dodging to the safe spot.
- Avoid the tile being turned into a Rose tile on the third Roseblood Bloom, then dodge Power Break.
- For the fourth Roseblood Bloom, a drop will head towards one side. Go to the other side to dodge Holy Hazard.
- For the fifth Roseblood Bloom, dodge in and out on one of the safe tiles. Then proceed to dodge the Briar Thorns on the safe tiles, then move to the correct side as the Rose tiles disappear.
- From this point onwards, Zelenia will repeat mechanics previously seen until she is defeated.
Rewards
Completion of this duty rewards 12 Allagan Tomestones of Heliometry and 6 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics. There is a rare chance to receive the Zelenia Triple Triad card.
