Scholar Healer Gear and Best in Slot — Dawntrail 7.4
On this page, you will find the best gear and best-in-slot items for your Scholar Healer in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (Patch 7.4).
Scholar Gearsets (BiS)
This section covers endgame Savage gear sets for Scholar. The main difference between most of these sets is MP economy. As MP economy gets tighter, DPS gets higher. Be sure to read the description of each and choose one that meets the needs of your own ability and group situation.
If you are currently gearing up your Scholar, you can find more information about the stat priorities and effects in our guide's melding section.
Scholar Best in Slot by Encounter
2.40 Recommended BiS
The 2.40 sets are our default recommendations, as they provide a good middle ground between DPS and MP economy. They are around 80 DPS behind the corresponding 2.31 sets.
Clicking the title of the set should open the full sheet, which allows you to compare the simulated DPS values of each set.
If you prefer, you can use this Max Item Level version, which uses the raid ring instead of a second, unaugmented tome ring. This provides slightly less damage and healing, but more max HP and Piety.
2.31 Highest Simming BiS
The 2.31 sets provide the most expected damage (~80 DPS above the 2.40 sets) in exchange for increased MP expenditure. If you are confident in your ability to heal efficiently and stay on top of your MP management tools, these sets have the greatest DPS potential. These sets are also identical to Astrologian's 2.31 sets, and they provide easy compatibility with White Mage's highest damage sets.
Week 1 Savage Sets (Crafted)
Our "Week 1" sets are built around spending the first four weeks of tomestones to give you the best possible set specifically for the week the Savage raid releases.
If you were unable to cap your weekly tomestones each week before the release of the Savage tier, please open the full gear sheet. There are additional sets in the full sheet that are optimized around spending one, two, or three weeks of tomes. They are not set up as a week by week progression, as the melds are optimized for each set assuming that you are going into Savage on week 1 with that exact gear set. Simply choose the set that corresponds to how many weeks of tomestones you will have available and meld toward that set. If you have capped tomes every week and you will farm tomes early in the week on week 1 of the tier, aim for a "4 Weeks of Tomes" set. If you will not cap tomes early on week 1 of the tier, or if you missed a week of tomes over the holidays, aim for a "3 Weeks of Tomes" set.
Most week 1 sets include the tome earrings, which are an extremely efficient tomestone purchase for week 1. However, they are not used in any of the final BiS sets for Scholar. If you do not want to "waste" tomes on a piece that will not be used in your final set, you may use the crafted earrings and buy the tome wrist or ring instead, melding according to the priority of Crit > Direct Hit. There are examples in the full gear sheet.
Note: If you cap your weekly tomestones consistently, you will be able to afford your final tomestone piece for the 2.40 set on week 4 of the tier after buying the tome earrings for week 1. Skipping the tome earrings lets you afford your final tomestone piece on week 3, but you will be unable to use that second tome ring until you have an upgrade item to augment your first tome ring. If you intend to use a 2.31 set and/or use a Max Item Level set, you can be finished spending tomes on Scholar by week 1-2. Skipping the tome earrings is primarily a consideration if you want to start spending tomes on other jobs/roles as soon as possible. Otherwise, we recommend that you take advantage of the significant DPS boost provided by the tome earrings for week 1 unless you strongly value the extra Piety from the crafted earrings.
This first set is the default recommendation. It provides a good compromise between MP economy and damage.
This second set provides a moderate DPS advantage (~137) over the 2.40 set above. However, that comes at the cost of increased MP expenditure due to the faster GCD. If you are confident in your MP management, this set should still be quite sustainable, even during progression. However, it can be risky if you do a lot of GCD healing or cast multiple raises.
Our third set is a safety option that sacrifices damage for more MP. It is about 91 DPS behind the 2.40 set, or 228 DPS behind the 2.32 set, but provides a large MP safety net for GCD healing and raises. This set is an option if you strongly prefer that kind of safety.
Futures Rewritten Sets With Chaotic Gear
These sets use gear from the Chaotic Alliance Raid, Cloud of Darkness, which provides a small DPS advantage (~25-50). Clicking the title of a set should open the full sheet, which allows you to compare the simulated DPS values of each set.
This first set provides a good balance between DPS and MP economy. If you are using the 2.40 set and you get the FRU weapon, simply meld Direct Hit in the extra materia slot.
This faster set offers a moderate DPS gain (~80) over the 2.40 set in exchange for a less forgiving MP economy. However, given the amount of downtime in the encounter, MP is still unlikely to be an issue.
Specifically for the 2.31 set, getting the FRU weapon allows for a slight meld optimization by melding Spell Speed in the extra materia slot and changing a Spell Speed meld on the pants to Crit.
Futures Rewritten Sets Without Chaotic Gear
These sets do not use gear from the Chaotic Alliance Raid, Cloud of Darkness. They are only about 30-40 DPS behind the sets that use the Chaotic gear, which is negligible. Clicking the title of a set should open the full sheet, which allows you to compare the simulated DPS values of each set.
This first set provides a good balance between DPS and MP economy. If you are using the 2.40 set and you get the FRU weapon, simply meld Direct Hit in the extra materia slot.
This faster set offers a small DPS gain (~55) over the 2.40 set in exchange for a less forgiving MP economy.
The Omega Protocol Best-in-Slot
Portions of these gear sets can only be acquired by completing the Abyssos raid tier. A guide for the content can be found in the link below.
These sets are expected to be about 0.64% DPS apart. The 2.40 set provides
slightly less damage, but it is much easier on your MP. If you are confident in
the encounter, the 2.31 set provides slightly more DPS and better
Biolysis alignment, but it will require stricter MP
management.
2.40 GCD DET Relic
2.31 GCD SPS Relic
Dragonsong's Reprise Best-in-Slot
With the arrival of Patch 6.3 and the new dungeon, Lapis Manalis, dropping iLevel 605 gear, we are now able to cap item level on certain pieces to make a stronger build, averaging about 1% higher in DPS compared to previous sets.
Portions of these gear sets can only be acquired by completing the Asphodelos raid tier. A guide for the content can be found links below.
The Epic of Alexander (TEA) Best in Slot
We have decided to not include full gear sets for The Epic of Alexander anymore, as your gear choices make very little difference in how much damage you do due to how gear syncs and removes melds. The item level listed below will outline what item level is required to max out both substats on gear for the fight. All gear above the specified item level will work:
- Item level 595
With that being said, the biggest difference that can be made to your gear set will be equipping a Shadowbringers Relic weapon. Due to the nature of how substats are allocated on these weapons, it enables you to utilize more substats than what is intended on a normal weapon. The Relic weapon provides a 1% damage increase for The Epic of Alexander. Stat allocation is as follows:
- 184 Critical Hit / 184 Determination / 99 Spell Speed
Keep in mind, the Relic weapon is NOT mandatory to clear these fights. It only provides a buffer for mistakes. It is up to the player to decide if the grind is worth it.
The Weapon's Refrain (UWU) Best in Slot
We have decided to not include full gear sets for The Weapon's Refrain anymore, as your gear choices make very little difference in how much damage you do due to how gear syncs and removes melds. The item level listed below will outline what item level is required to max out both substats on gear for the fight. All gear above the specified item level will work:
- Item level 500
With that being said, the biggest difference that can be made to your gear set will be equipping a Shadowbringers Relic weapon. Due to the nature of how substats are allocated on these weapons, it enables you to utilize more substats than what is intended on a normal weapon. The Relic weapon provides a 3.5% damage increase for The Weapon's Refrain. Stat allocation is as follows:
- 136 Critical Hit / 136 Determination / 133 Spell Speed / 63 Piety
Keep in mind, the Relic weapon is NOT mandatory to clear these fights. It only provides a buffer for mistakes. It is up to the player to decide if the grind is worth it.
The Unending Coil of Bahamut (UCoB) Best in Slot
We have decided to not include full gear sets for The unending Coil of Bahamut anymore, as your gear choices make very little difference in how much damage you do due to how gear syncs and removes melds. The item level listed below will outline what item level is required to max out both substats on gear for the fight. All gear above the specified item level will work:
- Item level 470
With that being said, the biggest difference that can be made to your gear set will be equipping a Shadowbringers Relic weapon. Due to the nature of how substats are allocated on these weapons, it enables you to utilize more substats than what is intended on a normal weapon. The Relic weapon provides a 3.5% damage increase for The Unending Coil of Bahamut. Stat allocation is as follows:
- 127 Critical Hit / 127 Determination / 123 Spell Speed / 90 Piety
Keep in mind, the Relic weapon is NOT mandatory to clear these fights. It only provides a buffer for mistakes. It is up to the player to decide if the grind is worth it.
