Warrior Action Changes in Dawntrail

In Dawntrail, Warrior has only had its sustainability increased above the levels of prior iterations. Additional healing effects have been added their defensive abilities like Rampart Icon Rampart and Vengeance Icon Vengeance. Extra actions have also been added that compliment the existing rotation. With Primal Wrath Icon Primal Wrath available after three usages of Fell Cleave Icon Fell Cleave & Decimate Icon Decimate while under the effects of Inner Release Icon Inner Release. Warrior also gains a follow up after Primal Rend Icon Primal Rend, Primal Ruination Icon Primal Ruination that is equally as satisfying to press. To top things off, the class has received visual updates to existing animations that breath new life into the class fantasy.

New Warrior Abilities and Weaponskills

  • Primal Ruination Icon Primal Ruination delivers a critical direct hit to target and all enemies nearby it with a potency of 740 for the first enemy and 70% less for all remaining enemies. It can only be executed while under the effect of "Primal Ruination Ready", granted by Primal Rend Icon Primal Rend.
  • Damnation Icon Damnation is an upgrade to Vengeance Icon Vengeance. It reduces damage taken by 40% for a duration of 15 seconds. While active, any Physical damage you suffer will cause a counterattack of 55 potency. Upon that effect expiring or upon taking damage gain "Primeval Impulse" which grants a regen of 400p across 15s.
  • Primal Wrath Icon Primal Wrath delivers an attack with a potency of 600 for the first enemy and 70% less for all remaining enemies. It's available for use while under the effect of "Wrathful", granted after three usages of Fell Cleave Icon Fell Cleave and/or Decimate Icon Decimate during Inner Release Icon Inner Release.

New Warrior Traits

  • Vengeance Mastery upgrades Vengeance Icon Vengeance to Damnation Icon Damnation.
  • Enhanced Rampart adds an additional effect to Rampart Icon Rampart that increases HP recovery via healing actions on self by 15%.
  • Melee Mastery increase the potency of Heavy Swing Icon Heavy Swing to 220, Maim Icon Maim to 190, Storm's Path Icon Storm's Path to 200, Storm's Eye Icon Storm's Eye to 200 and Fell Cleave Icon Fell Cleave to 580.
  • Enhanced Inner Release grants a stack of Burgeoning Fury upon landing Fell Cleave Icon Fell Cleave or Decimate Icon Decimate while under the effect of Inner Release Icon Inner Release. The buff has a 30s duration and stacks up to three times. At maximum stacks, become "Wrathful", changing Inner Release Icon Inner Release to Primal Wrath Icon Primal Wrath.
  • Enhanced Reprisal extends the duration of Reprisal Icon Reprisal to 15 seconds.
  • Enhanced Primal Rend grants the effect of "Primal Ruination Ready" after executing Primal Rend Icon Primal Rend for 30s that allows for Primal Ruination Icon Primal Ruination

Warrior's Gameplay Changes

Adding a follow-up to Primal Rend Icon Primal Rend feels in line with the design philosophy heading into Dawntrail. Some subtle additions that won't shake up the fundamental gameplay, but pack enough oomph to not feel boring. Having this new GCD does make our burst window longer and brings up questions of playing faster skill speeds for the sake of both personal damage and maximizing raid buffs. Not to mention the way our gauge generation slightly changes with the inclusion of Primal Ruination Icon Primal Ruination.

Primal Wrath Icon Primal Wrath initially feels like a "fire and forget" type of button, similar to Upheaval Icon Upheaval. Lastly, with Damnation Icon Damnation it's honestly a bit lackluster and has an almost redundant effect of a regen totaling 1500 cure potency attached to it. Warrior in Endwalker was already capable of healing itself through tankbusters comfortably. It also has frequent enough healing through Equilibrium Icon Equilibrium and Bloodwhetting Icon Bloodwhetting to sustain itself through autos while nothing else is happening. With how mitigation is used now, typical in pairs of (120s + Short) and (90s + Short), the additional healing from Damnation Icon Damnation definitely makes Warrior even better at sustaining itself after taking large amounts of damage.
