Zodiac Relic Weapons Guide for FFXIV
This guide provides a detailed walkthrough on how to unlock and upgrade your Zodiac Relic Weapons in Final Fantasy XIV with this page specifically showing the first stage. Each stage not only enhances the weapon's power but also introduces a unique visual style which can be viewed in the albums on each page.
What are the Zodiac Weapons?
The Zodiac Weapons are level 50 Relic Weapons from A Realm Reborn. Through this series players are able to complete a grind to unlock a weapon with a unique effect.
While historically a significant grind, the Zodiac Weapons series has been made easier with time thanks to nerfs, gameplay changes and simply being a higher level.
Are the Zodiac Weapons Worth Completing?
With these relic weapons being from an older expansion, they are not worth it for combat. Instead, these relics are worth collecting for achievements or simply for their glow. Level 50 players should not aim for these weapons and instead purchase a weapon using Allagan Tomestones of Poetics.
How do you Unlock Your Zodiac Weapons?
Start by completing the quest The Weaponsmith of Legend which can be found in Vesper Bay, Western Thanalan (12,14). This is a one-time quest to unlock everything and further relic weapons begin with A Relic Reborn. This is where the grind begins.
Zodiac Relic Weapon Albums
Shown below is an album for the initial Zodiac weapons provided to combat classes as well as information on how to unlock these weapons. There are no Zodiac relics for expansion Jobs.
The weapons have 2 main "completed" forms, that being the Nexus stage and the final Zeta stage. Click the buttons below to go straight to those pages however every stage has a unique look which may allow you to glamour it differently.

Unlocking Your Zodiac Weapon
The first quest to begin this series is called The Weaponsmith of Legend. Once this has been completed, you can accept the quest A Relic Reborn from Gerolt in North Shroud (30,20). Each weapon has a different quest name but all follow "A Relic Reborn (Weapon)", for example A Relic Reborn (Stardust Rod) would be for the Black Mage relic. This quest has around 7 key stages to it however the entire quest can be completed in less than an hour.
Obtain your Timeworn Relic
The first step simply has you going to a specific area to pick up the Timeworn version of your relic to deliver to Gerolt.
Job | Zone | Coordinates |
---|---|---|
Paladin | Southern Thanalan | X-30, Y-19 |
Warrior | Outer La Noscea | X-23, Y-10 |
Dragoon | Coerthas Central Highlands | X-34, Y-21 |
Monk | Southern Thanalan | X-32, Y-18 |
Ninja | Western La Noscea | X-16, Y-17 |
Bard | Coerthas Central Highlands | X-34, Y-21 |
Black Mage | Outer La Noscea | X-23, Y-10 |
Summoner | East Shroud | X-25, Y-19 |
White Mage | Outer La Noscea | X-24, Y-6 |
Scholar | Western La Noscea | X-16, Y-17 |
Deliver a Materia-Enhanced Weapon to Gerolt
For this step you need to purchase (from the market board), or craft the following weapon for your job. After that 2 materia of the corresponding grade need to be added to that weapon. If you do not have crafting classes leveled then you can simply use a Materia Melding NPC available in most cities.
Job | Weapon | 2 Materia |
---|---|---|
Paladin | Aeolian Scimitar | Battledance Materia III |
Warrior | Barbarian's Bardiche | Battledance Materia III |
Dragoon | Champion's Lance | Savage Aim Materia III |
Monk | Wildling's Cesti | Savage Aim Materia III |
Ninja | Vamper's Knives | Heavens' Eye Materia III |
Bard | Longarm's Composite Bow | Heavens' Eye Materia III |
Black Mage | Sanguine Scepter | Savage Might Materia III |
Summoner | Erudite's Picatrix of Casting | Savage Might Materia III |
White Mage | Madman's Whispering Rod | Quicktongue Materia III |
Scholar | Erudite's Picatrix of Healing | Quicktongue Materia III |
Chimera Fight and Alumina Salts
For the next step, you need to defeat the Dhorme Chimera from the fight unlocked at this stage called "A Relic Reborn: The Chimera". This can easily be cleared in a few seconds solo using by being a high level and entering as an Unrestricted Party (unsync).
Obtaining an Amdapor Glyph
The next few steps of the questline require you to speak to Rowena and then obtain an Amdapor Glyph by running the Normal version of Amdapor Keep.
It is recommended that while speaking to Rowena, you quickly purchase 1 Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil and 3 Thavnairian Mist which are used later on.
Once this step is completed, you can now equip your unfinished Zodiac Weapon! Do not discard your old weapon! You will need to equip it whenever you have to hand in. This is often the case while upgrading relics so make sure to keep a spare weapon at hand.
Slaying Beastmen
Now that you can equip your unfinished weapon, try to make sure to keep it on where possible. This next step requires you to equip it and to use it to defeat 24 beastmen. Their locations are roughly in the same areas as in the first stage but you may need to wait for some enemies to respawn.
Job | Location | Zone |
---|---|---|
Paladin | Zahar'ak | Southern Thanalan |
Warrior | U'Ghamaro Mines | Outer La Noscea |
Dragoon | Natalan | Coerthas Central Highlands |
Monk | Zahar'ak | Southern Thanalan |
Ninja | Sapsa Spawning Grounds | Western La Noscea |
Bard | Natalan | Coerthas Central Highlands |
Black Mage | U'Ghamaro Mines | Outer La Noscea |
Summoner | Sylphlands | East Shroud |
White Mage | U'Ghamaro Mines | Outer La Noscea |
Scholar | Sapsa Spawning Grounds | Western La Noscea |
Completing Trials
The next several steps of the relic simply involve you defeating 4 trials. These can all be completed in seconds when entering unsynced. These trials are:
- A Relic Reborn: The Hydra
- Ifrit (Hard)
- Garuda (Hard)
- Titan (Hard)
Deliver Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil
Ideally, you purchased this previously but if not. Simply spend 15 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics on 1 Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil from Auriana.
Once delivered, you now have your completed Zodiac Weapon! The next step to upgrade to a Zenith Weapon does not have a quest. Read on to learn more.
