The definition of "viable" is not flexible at all and there is little to be left to interpretation with it ; people seem to have a poor habit of using it interchangeably with "optimal" or "equivalent" when making spec comparisons. If you are not pursuing top-tier content during its initial relevance, your choice of spec is then largely a matter of preference. You can absolutely complete Heroic difficulty and lower as Demonology if so you please. You would not do as well, but nothing below mythique is tuned so tightly that your choice of spec will be the deciding factor in success. I also do not understand why you entirely neglect Destruction in your assessment; it is already performing admirably at easily-attainable levels of gear (Heroic-BrF with tier and GSR) and is only set to improve as more Mastery becomes avai

Assuming mastery present for every slot at mythique HFC item level it would be safe to eyeball it as a wash, until then it will not offset or surpass the 25% damage reduction. Basically this will mean that demo becomes heavily gear-reliant and will remain unfeasible until the previously mentioned gear benchmark. Mastery will, obviously, gain even more priority going forward (greater than spellpower but still behind buffed intellect). It will still play out as a net loss in 700-706 ilvl gear and below, indisputably. tangentially related : return of demonbolt ?

It is just a flat buff to mastery and it will not offset the 25% nerf to Demonology spells, even if you were to have mastery present in every slot. I do find their approach of buffing mastery's effectiveness per-point to be a little odd.

I exclusively use Charred Remains + Grimoire of Sacrifice while playing Destruction. It is important to have a lot of Mastery. Tier bonuses and Goren Soul Repository are also immensely helpful in making the spec stand out.

Demonology is always a safe choice. I also had pretty good results with Affliction. I only tried Destruction on Heroic Blackhand twice and it was before I had any tier, so I am personally unsure of how well it does. You may look at warcraftlogs for a more exact answer to that part. It does strong anywhere you can using Havoc to your advantage or where Chaos Bolt's burst damage shines. It does very well on Oregorger for destroying boxes, it is virtually prerequesite for Mythique Kromog and I did well with it for Blast Furnace as far as Primal Elementalist damage goes.

As usual, spec won't matter so much for Heroic difficulty as good performance does. Barring exceptions like Heroic Blackhand, nothing is really tuned so tightly that your spec is going to be a tremendous player in your success for Heroic and lower difficulties. That being stated, play whatever you enjoy the most. Assuming all of the Demonology nerfs to make it live, I would see Affliction and Destruction being the ideal arrangement for Mythic raiding in 6.2. It is absolutely legitimate for Blast Furnace. Simply make sure you're using it to hit Elementalists and not wasting the cooldown on padding via adds :P

As happy as I was to learn that the data mined proc was not going to make it live, I have a feeling that the future incarnation will just be an altered version of the same concept. :| I really, really dislike the notion of the Legendary proc being synergistic and shared with my entire dps group, rather than a personal RPPM or some other sort of personal effect. It is just very bad, very RNG-based, poorly-planned design to be sharing the effect among an entire group of players. As "boring" as people found the cloak procs, I would absolutely take something in that vein over the speculat
