Guest New Top tier Push

The new Top tier Sun woku WOL monk push build is somewhat not worth it...

 

Im running in a speed build and i am pushing higher than what the Push is capable of!

i toke a match out for it with a Grift 90. In the push build i did it in 5-6 mins. in my Speed build i did it in 3 mins flat.

 

The push build is not optimized well enought. Using Focus and restraint will limit you to a certain place of the map. Having to proc it every x sec will make you get close to the mobs and possible one shot by them!

 

My build will make you use the distance away from the mobs and such which will make even more use of the Zei's stone of vengeance.

the 125% from Focus and restaint is easierly caught up with when you reach the Fire rotation on CoE. The spirit regen is manageable in both gear guides tho! BUT it is WAY easier to manage it with Ephiphany/Desert shroud or Insight!

The build in total is not worth it since you are losing SOOOOO much toughtness.

Just an FYI, it appears that your legendary gem recommendations don't match between the main page and gear page on this guide.  Probably an oversight with the 2.6.1 changes/edits? (FWIW, Zei's seems to be the better choice than Stricken imho, curious what Deadset recommends.)

How would you adapt the build for group play, more specifically speed 60-70? I've been trying CoE instead of Unity but had to adjust a couple of passives and swapped BoP for Esoteric for survivability. Any better recommendations? 

Running with Sixth sense, the guardian path, harmony and exalted soul.

Why would it be safer? In speed farming, you will barely ever need to refresh stacks since you will constantly be damaging enemies. Really no need for it.

The build is already pretty much exactly ready for group play. There is very little to change for group play, other than that you can run Manta of Conviction - Annihilation for speeds. F+R is more damage for this build than CoE will be.

The current build seems to suggest an awkward mix of ranged and melee. For example, it makes no sense to equip Spirit Guards and Zei's gem. The build in the guide is not the one that basically all the top ranked monks are running, either. The current meta build (which I found much better than the one here) uses Epiphany instead of a generator, Cindercoat instead of Spirit Guards, and Obsidian Zodiac/Unity instead of Focus and Restraint.

 

The end result is basically endless spirit even with WoL spam, freedom to stay 40+ yards away all the time, higher toughness, and comparable (if not better) damage.

The #1 ranked Monk on season is using Spirit Guards, a generator, F+R and Zei's. Same for #2. #3 is running Cindercoat, but is 3 GR levels below the #1 at 106 vs. 109.

Are we talking about the same thing?

I'm looking at Season Solo Monk Leaderboards in The Americas in Greater Rifts as of 2pm CST on 11/19/2017. The top 10 players (in normal AND hardcore) are all running basically identical builds:

1. No F&R whatsoever but some combination of CoE/Unity/ObsidianZodiac.

2. No generator but Epiphany instead.

I'm very confused about what you are looking at...unless you were accidentally looking at "normal" non-season...in which case there are a few players running F&R. But I would assume that most of them haven't touched those characters since the season started and the new popular build took off.

Sorry, I'm an EU player so defaulted to checking EU leaderboards. On EU, the top rank at 109 is still the Focus + Restraint build, running it in 14min 7s.

It is interesting that the "no F&R" build isn't quite so prevalent in EU.

The America rankings (which as I mentioned have no F&R) are:

#1 at 109

#2 and #3 at 108

#4 at 107

#5-7 at 106

But regardless of rankings, I still don't understand the decision to use melee ranged gear/skills in conjuction with max range stuff. It just isn't optimal. Even if a couple talented players can manage top 10 rankings with inefficient builds I just don't think they should be considered the recommended standard.

The thing is, you're running Wave with Tsunami, which has a 17 yard range, which means it's super easy to maintain F+R while still getting Zei's bonus damage where you need it. WoL also has a huge spread on it, meaning you can cast it on a mob next to you and get a max-range damage bonus on another mob in the same cast. It's also worth noting that the Freeze effect on Tsunami can be hugely helpful along with the daze on it for managing melee mobs. 

You specifically use the fire rune of WoL because of the crazy high spread on it, so you benefit from Zei's on it as much as possible.

I think in the long run this will resolve itself, but I just wanted to make one more point.

17 yards (on third hit) maximum on generators. 50 yards minimum for max damage on Zei's.

At 17 yards (outside of which F&R become incredibly mediocre) Zei's never out-scales Bane of the Powerful (that nobody is using) which also gives significant survivability.

I'm not exactly super high on the leaderboards myself, but I do know that while you are using generators you're basically doing zero damage. Even I have gotten to the point that if I'm not spamming WoL nearly full time I'll lose to the 15 minute boss. There's no way I have the time to use 3 generator attacks every 3 (for Spirit Guards) or 5 (for F&R) seconds.

With what you're saying, you're making an assumption that's wrong in regards to the playstyle - you're not meant to stand on top of a pack of mobs and spam your generator. You use Dashing Strike to constantly reposition yourself at the edge of the pack, using a small, low hitting mob to proc your generator buff. You then use WoL in the middle of the pack, thereby gaining the massive bonus of Zei's. If the enemy you are trying to hit is directly in front of you, then something is wrong. And for Rift Guardians, you simply ensure that you use DS to move into Zei's range after proccing Generator, then as the boss follows, you clip him again with generator and jump away once more. 

You would be completely right in what you say if F+R debuffed enemies for additional damage. Then it would be worse, since you'd need to be right on top of the elite you're trying to kill. You can hit any mob at all and get the buffed damage on all mobs.

For me dashing strike is totally unreliable in this build and I mostly use it for defense like running away from dangerous situations, otherwise I lack a charge in most crucial moments. It is suggested to take blinding speed with it but I don't know why, imho quicksilver (additional charge) would be better. Additional dodge is not needed, and it is only 4 seconds, you won't upkeep it anyways. I think the reason behind it is to gain sweeping wind charges faster and in more safe manner if you go with witching hour instead of kyoshiro's soul? Personally I go with kyoshiro's soul, in longer run it works better for me than the witching hour.

Also I think it is obvious Bastions of Will gives more dps potential, the other variant is simply easier to play. Strikes me though why one would take unity with it over CoE.

In the end all of these builds give some room to modifications according to personal play style. I think this build evolved a little bit since the season started and leaderboards reflect it.

This video should give a good idea about it. Notice how he repositions himself constantly? He ensures there are mobs around him to hit with generator, but is still getting good value out of Zei's. He only moves towards elites specifically if there is an Oculus area near them, since the bonus from that far outweighs the damage bonus from Zei's.

At higher GRs, you need the dodge desperately and 40% chance is nothing to dismiss.  Given that you will be seeking Oculus areas, the extra charge of dash is pointless, honestly. It will be useless for the large majority of the rift, other than when you get 0 procs on Oculus or you have no density.

Another thing to remember is that, if you end up removing BoW set, then the argument against Blinding Speed no longer makes sense. You will need CDR for Epiphany, so it will also allow for higher uptime on dodge from Dash.

quick question, does weapon damage scale into damage output directly on this build? and how is weapon damage calculated when weilding 2 1h weapons?

so for the 1st question, If i had a total 4k damage output, and I get a new weapon with 400 more dps would that mean I'll do 10% more damage on every cast?

 

and for the 2nd one, if I have 2 1h weapons with 2k dps does that mean when factoring in the weapon damage on skill tooltips it uses the sum of the 2? (4k) or an average? (2k).

 

While we're at it, what would u suggest needs changing asap on my char? just going for overall ancient rolls on all gear pieces or is there any particular piece u see that seriously needs an improvement?

      The shadows, they are moving, and they seem… animated. Like they have a will of their own. Whatever this trickery is, perhaps you can use it to your advantage. Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped.       Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works: Completing Acts II, III, and IV of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely! The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character.       Here's a preview of Season 33 and Patch 2.7.8 that will soon be available for testing on the PTR.
      Shades of Nephalem Theme
      In the latest Diablo III Season, the Shades of Nephalem season theme marks a return. Activating a Shrine or Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class. The clone's power wil scale with your character and last for one minute or until death.

      Fourth Kanai's Cube Slot
      In addition to the season theme, Kanai's Cube will have an additional fourth slot.

      Season 33 Start?
      We expect Season 33 to start in late September/early October 2024.
      PTR Testing
      Patch 2.7.8 will be available for testing for one week. Initially, Blizzard planned to test out the patch from September 17 through September 24, but they ran into some unexpected issues and testing has been delayed. New Mac executables for Silicon and Intel chips will be available in this build, as revealed by Blizzard.

      Season 33 Rewards

      The Head and Shoulder slots of the Conqueror Set are coming, alongside Black Soulstone-themed portratis and the Loremaster pennant.

      Complete the Season 33 journey to earn the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.

      Here are the Conqueror requirements for Diablo III in the upcoming season. This will grant you an additional stash tab (up to a max of 5).

      Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete two Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at level 70 in under 15 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty.       Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 32: Ethereal Memory. Starting on July 12 at 5 p.m. PDT/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Ethereal Memory theme, which first debuted with Season 24. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below.

      As the Nephalem reflect on Sanctuary's history, instruments of power from a bygone era resurface. These ethereal memories will grant those persistent enough to search for them unimaginable power. Legends of the past will manifest once more in the present, and you must decide how to best use these gifts—for ethereal power is fugacious by nature, and will soon return to being no more than a myth.
      For this seasonal theme, we were inspired to reimagine how Ethereal items could manifest in Diablo III, with 21 iconic weapons making a return from Diablo II. In Season 32, Ethereals are rare, powerful, and fleeting items.
      Season 32 reintroduces Ethereals, a weapon-type that players will be able to acquire and hunt for in their upcoming seasonal journey. Ethereals will roll a powerful set of affixes, a random Class Weapon Legendary Power and a random Class Passive Power. Ethereals will have unique icons, names, item types, and sounds originally found in Diablo II. For additional details on Ethereals, check out the list below:
      Ethereals are account bound and can only be dropped by monsters, chests, and destructibles, but do not require your character to be Level 70 in order to drop. Ethereals cannot be acquired through Kanai's Cube or from Kadala. Ethereal rarity drop rate is set between Ancient and Primal items. There are 3 unique Ethereals per class. Each Ethereal has fixed affixes and rolls one random Legendary Weapon power and one random Class Passive Skill. Only one Ethereal can be equipped at a time. Ethereals ignore item durability loss. Legendary Powers and Class Passive Skills rolled on Ethereals do not stack with the same power equipped through Kanai's Cube, Items or Skills. Ethereals cannot be Enchanted, Transmogrified, Dyed, Reforged, or traded. Ethereals can be augmented. Collecting all 21 Ethereals during the season will reward players with the Feat of Strength, Ethereal Recollection. Players who accomplish this will have all Ethereal transmogrify options available for future seasonal and non-seasonal play.       Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to players who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 32, this means awards originally available from Season 8 are returning to the Season Journey.

      However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Feast your eyes upon the Teganze Warrior Portrait Frame and Bat pet!

      In addition to the Boots and Pants slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn a series of portrait frames that smolder with demonic fires of the Burning Hells. The iconic wings of Andariel will also be available once more, allowing you to truly embrace your inner Maiden of Anguish.

      Season Journey Rewards
      If you’ve been diligently slaying demons for the past few Seasons and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of 5:
      Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within 5 minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete 2 Conquests this Season. Warm Thoughts: Kill Izual at Level 70 in under 15 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Treasure Goblins outside of Nephalem Rifts will sometimes open portals to Greed’s domain, The Vault. Take U There: Reach Greater Rift Level 60 Solo. Greater Rift keystones can be obtained from any Nephalem Rift guardian. Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a level 50+ gem. Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item. Return to Top
      Seasonal Conquest
      Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 32? Here are the challenges you’ll face!
      For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at Level 70 on Torment X or higher. Push your way to Greater Rift Level 75 to complete Divinity/Lionhearted. For the fiercest demon slayers, Boss Mode/Worlds Apart is a speed challenge where you’ll need to eliminate the following bosses at Level 70 and Torment X in under twenty minutes:
      The Skeleton King The Butcher Zoltun Kulle Ghom Cydaea Rakanoth Diablo Adria Queen Araneae Maghda Belial Siegebreaker Assault Beast Azmodan Izual Urzael Malthael Finally, Years of War/Dynasty will be a great test for those who enjoy mastering various Class Sets, and if that’s not enough, Masters of the Universe/Masters of Sets will challenge your tactical understanding of Set Dungeons.

      Haedrig’s Gift
      Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey (courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift) have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:
      Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely!
      The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character.
