Coussin 7 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Hi guys, Coussin the discipline priest here. I'm mostly coming on my raid mate's behalf, because I want all of the healers on my team to be pumping out their max, and I'd hate for anyone to "underperform" because of a misunderstanding of their class. The paladin concerned right now is Beeble (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/alleria/beeble/advanced). I know he's a smart and skilled player, he seems to be pushing out heals like there's no tomorrow, but he usually ends up fairly low on the meters (doesn't change much, but still) with enormous overhealing (which is what worries me at the moment). Here is a log of our progression on H Maidens this week: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/a1pkmx7dhTw9v2cz#type=healing&source=7&boss=1695&wipes=1 (Feel free to look through other logs, we log every raid, 3 raids a week) I noticed a lot his big overhealing numbers. Over a lot of attempts though, I saw that most of our healers were hitting big overhealing, so it makes me wonder: Is he truly underperforming or is the fight simply built in a specific way where everyone overheals? Is he getting sniped by me or other heals? (That might make sense of the big overhealing numbers.) Is he concentrating on the wrong targets? Or, the one that worries me the most: Is he simply not using his spells to the best advantage? Note that over a few raids, I don't seem to notice him running out of mana (running Candle and maybe a bit high on spirit, but if he feels comfortable like that, meh), but his numbers are usually a bit low compared to the other healers. Last thing, I'd like to know a bit more about the holy pally in this current patch. Are there any specific things to watch for, to keep up with and to keep in mind when analyzing his logs? Also, anything that changed from the basis of the holy pally guide currently on the class guide page?
Lightbender 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Hello Coussin. Im Lightbender, holy paladin - OutlandEU Armory http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/outland/Lightbender/simple Warcraft log https://www.warcraftlogs.com/guilds/68679 What seem to be the problem with your holy paladin is that he lack critical strike. I did the armory check and I must say I did not see much crit on his gear. I also saw the log and to be honest, he should try get more of the crit > multi > haste gear that is available for plate wearer! You shouldn`t be too concerned about overheals in this expansion unless the healers get oom too fast. It depends on the class but holy paladin got around 30-45% overheal based on fights of what I have observed from other logs. I am also not a pro and are currently looking for guide for BH HC so if any other holy paladin could come with input I`d be happy about that Summary: Get more crit and multistrike Get rid of all the vers and mastery Focus on raw healing Learn the fights, predict the healing (iron maidens are very predicatble without bomb phase IMO) Lightbender
Mikar 2 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 So first big thing I noticed, the bulk of his heals are on tanks. This is an HPS loss. He should be raid healing and just letting beacon heal the tanks, and firing out EF's on them, maybe a flash if needed. In a perfect scenario in a 12:30 fight (the one I looked at) he would have a minimum of 125 shocks (that's with no procs). Which means 41 3 HP EF's. That's more than he had, and looking at average ticks I feel a few of his were most likely 2HP, which isn't to bad in emergency situation, but the duration being max is important if you're going to keep it up on at least 3 targets. 2 Avenging wrath in a 12 minute fight? Problem. Even un glyphed it's a 3min CD, that's at least 4. It's better to use it and build up shields on a couple people when it's not needed than to not use it all atll. Although I would advise that he use it on the first decent AOE dmg then just on CD after that. Unless the logs are wrong... 1 Prism? Huge loss. Just huge. We just did heroic Maidens the other night and there are tons of times when prism can heal to it's FULL potential. Needs to be used on or close to CD. He has judgements, shocks and hammer of wrath on boss. All using GCD which could be spent healing. I'll take more of a look later but these are definitely good starting points.
Mikar 2 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Right I forgot to mention the over healing. We tend to have more than most (except maybe druids) if we are assigned to a tank healing role. We used to be awesome at this role but it has fallen more to shamans now that we have double beacon. This makes us viable raid healers with the shock and fast holy light combos. Not to mention all EF ticks got to both tanks. I know those numbers any tiny but everything helps.
Judgematt 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2015 You also have to lookat your logs too... the majority of what you are doing is shielding the tanks... for the entire fight, if his beacons are on the tanks the entire fight, thats the reason for the massive overheal, one of you two need to do soemthign different
Coussin 7 Report post Posted March 9, 2015 @Lightbender As of stat pushing, I believe he mostly gets int>anything else, as we're still gearing up most of the raid. As soon as we're comfy in our ilvls, I think we'll look more towards stat weights, but it's something for me to look for. Thanks! @Mikar Alright, so low cd usage and low-cd spammable high-efficiency heals not used? I'll check into that. So, basically: Avenging Wrath on CD or close (consider glyphing it for more interesting/manageable use? making it similar to Archangel) Holy prism on CD or close with minimum overhealing (similar to Cascade in this regards, I believe) Less direct casting on tanks More use of 3HP Eternal Flame Less GCD waste on Judgement/HoW/Shocks on bosses (basically only generate HP with Holy Shock?) Thanks for the input, I'll be sure to look into that. @Judgematt I did look at the logs, many times, which is why I'm here. Also, all my healers' (including mine) highest healing done is on tanks, which makes sense, because they're the only ones taking damage in this fight, if everyone is doing their jobs right. My question mostly pertains to the fact that other healers are doing 35-40~% overhealing, while he ends some upwards of 50%. I'm not even concentrating on the tanks, shielding them on CD should be any disc's job.
Mikar 2 Report post Posted March 9, 2015 Glyph of Merciful wrath, when paired with Sanctified wrath (talent) cut the CD in half on the ability and extends it's duration for 50%. Yes it drops the healing bones from 1005 to 50%, but really, 100% will just cause everything to over heal most likely. I didn't look at his gear much, but he definitely needs to aim for Crit as his main stat, after Int of course. I personally push haste second, but I do enjoy those multi strike ticks. I personally try not to cast on tanks at all if I don't have to as every heal heals them, as well all EF ticks go to them, Use a shaman as a main tank healer and get your pally to cover the raid. Dreamguard 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2015 @Mikar: The first thing to point out is that Coussin linked us logs to their progression on Iron Maidens where he should be casting on the tanks for a large majority of the fight since there's very little raid damage outside of the last phase of the fight and he can build shields. I looked at a few of your other logs and there are definitely a few things he could be doing better. 1. Holy Shock on cooldown. Only if you get an enhanced holy shock and casting the 2nd would put you over 5 HP should you not be using HS on cooldown. 2. Less Holy Radiance. It's really not a worthwhile spell for the mana costs. At best it's incredibly situational. 3. Holy Prism should be used almost on cooldown with the exception of waiting a few extra seconds if you know more damage is coming in. 4. Keep a 3HP Eternal Flame on the tank taking damage (or both tanks if there's a lot of swapping, which is most fights). The HoT for EF should have 90%+ uptime on almost every fight. 5. Less Flash of Light, more Holy Light. 5. The armory has him in what looks like Retribution gear so the stats might be slightly off, but he definitely wants as much crit as possible followed by haste. Most of the other stats are fairly comparable and you shouldn't really worry too much about it other than crit and haste.
Mikar 2 Report post Posted March 13, 2015 @Dreamshock On Maidens yes, my advice wasn't the best :) But every fight is situational and I usually give general help and advice, hehe. You're obviously correct though, and especially with H Maidens I find it handy to have my becon of faith on a mouse over macro so when the tank go up to boat I can just toss it on myself so that it's not wasted as the other tank is out of range at that point.
