Thanks for the post, Odinn. It's been really fun to see the website grow over the past 4 years and become what it currently is. I feel that the one area where we are still lacking is that we haven't yet managed to build a strong community around the website, but we have plans for that in the coming year.

Just to create a bit of discussion - what are everyones thoughts about forums (not just Icy Veins ones).  Over the past few years I've felt a definite shift away from forums towards other sources of discussion / information.

I don't tend to look at the US forums much but the EU ones seem a lot slower these days.  Noone really seems to use guild websites etc anymore either.

Is it just the community changing after so long or a shift in the way we actually communicate?

I don't visit Blizzard Official Forums, but MMO-Champion remains busy as usual. The Warlock Forums here have died down a bit, but still a few posts each day.

Our guild website is often active, either through funny / joke posts or those about raiding.

Overall I feel it's exactly the same as it was a few years ago, although perhaps more people are creating their own websites these days.

I think forums in general are a lot like WoW's subscriptions, you see bursts you see ebbs but overall they tend to stay at relatively large numbers. The DK boards here for instance are sorta slow now but with new patch notes, new tier sets, etc, it just explodes with activity and theorycrafting. From the forums here new playstyles were developed and there was so much communal work done on everything. I think depending on where wow is out you will see said fluctuations.

So, for instance right now we are in sort of a drawl in game. Blackrock is out, the last lfr wing drops this week. But overall in game there isn't that much new stuff going on. Now, come 6.2 which may have new class changes, new storylines, tier 18 pvp and pve gear etc, we'll likely see a big boost for awhile until all that data gets worked through.

So, forums are just like waves, sometimes they are up sometimes down but they keep moving forward biggrin.png

I feel like large, public forums don't have the same kind of pull they had in years gone by when you compare them to e.g. social media or reddit nowadays. The need for discussion has also somewhat dissipated, as the delta between an amazing player and an average player is nowhere near as pronounced with the way that the designers have handled abilities, talents, gear, etc. as they've iterated over expansions gone by.

I still frequent a handful of private forums, and I imagine lots of people do, but gaming as a whole has somewhat shifted to blogs, reddit, streaming, etc. in lieu of forum usage. Anyone who's any kind of car enthusiast, though, will tell you that forums as a medium are alive and well! ;)

Where's the cake?

Oh Peelyon, after all these years, you still forgot? "The cake is a lie" rolleyes.gif

Thank you, Odinn, for this post, and Damien and Vlad, for such a great site. I frequent this site almost daily, bug Gwenymph (priest moderator) incessantly, and miss Geoda (holy paladin moderator) tremendously.

Re: forums and guild websites - I don't bother with WoW's official forums, and haven't for quite a while - too many rabbit trails and trolls for me.  Our guild uses its own website, and we in turn look to Icy Veins quite frequently.

Here's to another 4+ years!

Today, we release our Path of Exile site. It is not entirely finished yet, but the content is there and we felt comfortable sharing it with Path of Exile players from our current audience.
This is a project that we have been working on for quite some time (so nothing to do with the recent Diablo announcements or lack thereof). We developed a CMS from the ground up, using our many years of experience with Icy Veins as a basis for the various features we required on the publishing side of the site. We also added things such as a proper item database or a dev tracker. These are things we can't have on Icy Veins, because the tech the site is running on would not permit it. Hopefully, one day we can run Icy Veins on our new tech and do all these things, if we feel like it.
As I was saying above, the site is not 100% ready, but it is very close in terms of features. We worked hard in the past two weeks to fix all major bugs, so that end users can have a smooth experience, and we have enough content to cover the currently most popular builds. So we are waiting for your feedback!

Currently you will find the following things on the site: guides and news for Path of Exile, an item database (still missing out a couple of base items), a dev tracker (Official Forums + Twitter + Reddit), and of course forums where people can discuss about that game.
Our guide offering is currently as follows:
Triple Herald Blade Vortex Elementalist Build Arc Mines Saboteur Build Guide Glacial Cascade Mines Saboteur Build Guide Ancestral Warchief Ascendant Build Guide Ascendant Hit Elemental Build Guide Aurabot Ascendant, 8 Auras Build Guide The Cleave Ascendant Build Guide Herald of Agony Occultist Build Guide Frostbolt/Glacial Cascade Totems Hierophant Build Guide Uber Labyrinth Farmer Juggernaut Build Guide Rain of Arrows Deadeye Build Guide Tornado Shot Deadeye Build Guide The Baron Zombies/Skeletons Necromancer Build Guide Toxic Rain Pathfinder Build Blade Flurry Gladiator Build Guide Spectral Throw Raider Build Guide Cyclone Slayer Build Guide We also have a beginner guide for fresh exiles.
With all that said, we're hoping to see you on that new website and are looking forward to your comments!
Please welcome our newest website on Path of Exile!

In case you weren't aware of it, we have a specialized Discord server that focuses on ARPGs! This includes Diablo 4 of course, and the discord focuses on helping players who might have any questions relating to the featured games in general (Diablo 4, Path of Exile and Lost Ark) or our guides for them. And now the ARPG Vault has reached the 10,000 member milestone and is hosting a giveaway!
The giveaway lasts until July 7th, and all you have to do to enter is:
Head on over to the ARPG Vault Discord, Follow the onboarding process by picking a role/game when prompted, React to the emote in the giveaways channel!
5 winners will be chosen at random on July 7th at 22:00 CET. Each winner can choose to receive either a $30 Supporter Pack in Path of Exile, or $30 worth of Battle.net Balance.
So head on over and join the community! You'll definitely find plenty of answers to any of your Diablo 4 (and other ARPG) questions, and might even win something while you're at it!
