DravenCarey 3 Report post Posted May 2, 2015 Hey everyone, my guild just recently got our first Progression Kill of Operator Thogar on Mythic - and man did I underperform! Now, I know that because this was our first progression kill, things had to be done to maximize our chances of success - not my DPS - but I still feel like I'm missing a few things. I would appreciate if someone could give me a hand in suggesting changes that I can do to better perform on this fight. I've got the logs of the kill and a recording from my PoV (that might be helpful for checking positioning or how I handled various aspects of the fight). Thanks in advance guys! Lockybalboa 618 Report post Posted May 2, 2015 You didn't under perform really. The ranking on Op Thogar are MASSIVELY broken. #1 Parse for Demo is a little over 100k DPS on a 7 min fight. I know the smell of bullshit when it comes my way. #1 rank damage done to Iron Raider's Note the 61mil damage done total. Each Iron Raider only has 1.5mil HP. So 35 * 1.5mil = 52mil. The extra damage comes from the totally BS bug that is in the game right now where DoTs are staying on targets and doing damage even after the target is dead. You can see this on Op Thogar, Flamebender, Kromog, Beastlord, Etc. Basically anything with adds. This means that the rankings are hugely thrown off, Op Thogar most of all. I'm not saying you can't do better then you did, I'm just saying that what you did was more like 85-95% of true DPS and not the 22% that Warcraftlogs is showing you right now. DravenCarey 3 Report post Posted May 2, 2015 Ah, right on man good to know. If you happen to notice anything worth improving on I'd certainly enjoy hearing about it! Thanks again for taking the time to reply!
Liquidsteel 279 Report post Posted May 2, 2015 You seemed to play the fight okay. Some things to improve on: Make sure your precast is in the air BEFORE the boss is engaged. This is very important as RPPM trinkets proc from spell cast instead of spell hit, and when the boss is engaged the RPPM counter resets to 120 bad luck protection. You forgot to Doom the boss in the opener. With lust and haste proc up you probably missed out on two ticks. You didn't actually apply Doom until over 20s in. You sat on Cataclysm for well over a minute around 5:30, including a period where it came off cooldown when there was a pack of adds up. Otherwise you did ok. Could probably focus more on getting good use out of Soul Fire and maximising Fury efficiency, but not a bad effort for a first kill.
DravenCarey 3 Report post Posted May 2, 2015 Thanks again for the input! Yea that precast was crazy late, that's something I normally nail but I'll be a bit more careful with it (and I'll be quicker with that Doom haha)! Sitting on that Cataclysm was actually on purpose though. In the video it comes up at 5:33 and I could have used it on those couple of adds but I decided I wouldn't get much out of it (would have tagged maybe 4 targets at best). Additionally, I could have used it at 5:43 when those other adds dropped (which wouldn't have been a bad idea since there were like ~9 targets I could have feasibly hit). But I figured I'd get the most out of it by using it at 6:20 when the double train of adds come out (I was saving my potion for this point too). I figured it'd be better to sit on it and hit more targets (in the video it looks like I only got about 6-7 but looking over logs just now it seems I was able to tag 12). Do you think that was probably the right call or would you advice using it on that pack of 9 at 5:43? I think I may have been able to get 1 other cast off in the fight if I did that, but I think it may have only hit just the boss :/.
Liquidsteel 279 Report post Posted May 3, 2015 The large add packs are pretty much your lowest priority. Using potion there is a bit scumbag like for progression. I use my second potion on the pack with the second man at arms which comes with the second deforester.
DravenCarey 3 Report post Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Using my potion there was a decision I came to based on the progression pulls we had. But I can understand how it might seem jackass-ish, however, what do you think about the reasoning behind sitting on Cataclysm? Would you have recommended using it earlier and then maybe getting another cast off on the boss, or just saving it for that pack like I did? Liquidsteel 279 Report post Posted May 4, 2015 Using Cataclysm on the packs with Man at Arms and Firemenders is the priority, in my opinion. At 5:43 I think you should have still use Cataclysm on the pack because both the Big Adds were around 40-50% HP, and the shouts that the Man at Arms does really start to hurt. Plus you'd have gotten an extra Cata on the boss later on too. That thing can crit for nearly 300k now so don't underestimate it's usefulness in chunking single targets!
