Addons

Where would we be without them! For a lot of people ingame addons are a must have for raiding, PvP or general gameplay.

I have plenty running at any given time and even have some for specific characters that I use a lot. Rather than having me list all the addons I use I thought it might be good to get you lot to list one addon that you like.

It can be one that you feel is a MUST for you to play the game, or one that you think is a little quirky that you just love.

So feel free to name your addon, give a brief description of what it does, and perhaps even provide a link for players to go and get it themselves.

I'll start:

One of my favourites is Ackis Recipe List (link leads to Curse.com download page).

Ackis provides the option to scan your professions and it works out what recipes you are still missing and how to obtain them. It lets you apply filters of various types and is a great addon for anyone searching for a particular recipe that you need!

It is a completely superfluous addon, but have come to find out that whenever I redo my UI or anything i NEED to have GoGoMount.

Also, ElvUI Uber Alles! I love that thing.

Since ElvUI has already been said I'm gonna go with... I guess power auras classic.

It keeps track of all my cooldowns, all my buffs and debuffs, right next to my raid frame, which is really handy for a healer.

I like to keep it old school and don't really play with many add ons. I only really use recount/omen/dbm/healbot... though I do depend on GTFO (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/gtfo) - generally I'm busy manically pressing buttons and screaming at other people in the middle of a raid that I do have a tendancy to stand in the middle of a puddle of firey/acidy/black and or purple stuff so a big blue flashy sign in the middle of my screen surely helps stop me looking like a fool.

The yor HC addon is also pretty helpful, with a bit of editing. Stops me having to think overly, which can only be a good thing.

I'm going to go with the one that does something very simple, but to me very important and that is Bagnon. The ability to just open up all my bags and they appear in the same bag is huge and very valuable to me.

Another very useful small addon like this is postal which allows you to withdraw every item/money in your mailbox with one click. The addon opens up every mail one after another and puts the items in your bag as long as you have a free spot. Really useful for people using the auction house a lot.

I cant live without Recount as a rogue, it monitors your dps, and dps statistics for the group.

I also , being the guild farmer, CANT live without Gatherer, it records the location of every picked herb and mining node so that you know where it is next time, and also lets guild members with the addon know where it is on the map.

and finally, my FAVORITE addon is NPC Scan and NPC Scan overlay! You cant find those silver dragons easily or get those acheivements easily without it! And its a quick, easy addon to use, alerts you when a rare is in your area, flashes the screen, pops up a mini picture of the rare, so that you can click that to target it and get it before anyone else does! EASY GOLD! :)

I use Easy Mail for getting all my mails in one click. Have you tried it Madmonk? so we can compare it with postal, which you are using.

I can't believe Nyxxiana is the first to mention Gatherer and NPC Scan :P

Maybe we need to start having addon showdowns and start comparing similar addons to see which one is better! Being a user of Postal, I'd love to see if Easy Mail cracks out to be a "better" solution.

Hello Everyone!

I'm pretty new to WoW, and to online gaming. I've been helped a lot by some amazing people in WoW, and icy-veins.com has been the BEST!!

I am having a major problem with Add Ons, and I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me.

ElvUI is a complete mess, and I can't get it to do anything except to block most of my 22" screen with oversized grey boxes.

Bagnon will not show up, regardless of how I load it.

The same holds true with Deadly Boss Mods (DBM). I cannot get it to show in my Add Ons screen in WoW.

I am running on a MacBook Pro that's hooked to a 22" monitor. Snow Leopard with 4 gigs of RAM.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

I don't use an UI add on but DBM shouldn't be messing things up... my dad runs wow on a mac and has none of these issues.

First question (I know it is the obvious one) is your add on up to date. Next have you gone to the 'addon' button on the character select screen?

Otherwise can you talk us how you did the instillation of the adds?

My favourite addon by far has to be Power Auras Classic! It's so extremely versatile that it could replace a large number of my other addons if I needed it to. The disadvantage is that it takes up a lot of memory. My guide, Power Auras for Everyone! can help anyone out if they want to get started with PowA but are too daunted by all the options!

The same holds true with Deadly Boss Mods (DBM). I cannot get it to show in my Add Ons screen in WoW.

Hi Valkder, have you tried typing:

 /dbm
into the chat bar? This should open the DBM config menu.

One of my favourite addons is altoholic. It allows you to track all your chars on any char you'd like. Inventory, achievements, anything you can imagine. I adore it because I have a bankalt (as do most people at this point) with a guild bank. Whenever I need an item, I do not need to switch, I just do a search in altoholic, and bam, I know whether I have the item or not. Same goes for profession tracking. On an alt and wanting to know what mats are required for tailoring which is a profession my main has. Just check altoholic!

I do of course also love all the addons mentioned here, besides the UI one, I don't have that one.

Did you go through the installation setup when you first played the game after enabling the addon? To reinstall the addon, there is a button on the top right of the option window (/ec). Are you using the latest version on ALL your addons? ElvUI no longer gets updated on Curse, only on their own website http://www.tukui.org/dl.php.

Other than that, you could try changing your resolution (what resolution are you currently using?) And check if the Auto Scale option is enabled.

1. Carbonite - playing wow without carbonite is unfathomable. It's mapping, questing, farming and warehouse functionality is top notch!

2. DBM - raid warnings

3. Bartender - Action bars

4. Pitbull - Unit frames

5. Healbot - For every class! My ret pally could not live without this. (you can use grid + clique instead)

6. Skada - Damage meters and threat meters.

7. Raven - simply the best for tracking buffs and debuffs.

8. Tidy Plates - see when your dot's on mobs easily and when you are pulling threat.

9. Quartz - Cast bars. Great for seeing what to interrupt.

10. OmniCC - cooldown timers

11. Power Auras Classic - amazing for tracking the important stuff just requires lots of setup.

Lot's of class specific addons like: CLCRet, CLCDK, MageNuggets, Magemanabar, Serenity...etc.

Trade Skill Master - for all of your Auctioning and it also has the ability to get all your mail with 1 click.

Absolutely and undoubtedly the most important addon for me is GRID! GRID! GRID! Very simple but extremely effective for any raider. With a correctly setup and calibrated grid and DBM I would be hard pressed to think of any other necessary addon! Posted Image

I don't know if you've tried Vuh'do, but I find that it's superior to Healbot in every way =3

Also, people tend to underestimate just how much PowA can do - it aint just for trackin' cooldowns! :D

Hi,

I have found the following Add-Ons very useful. I would recommend using the Curse client to install and maintain them (updates etc.).

Core Add-ons used by all my classes

  • ElvUI - A complete User Interface (UI) replacement for World of Warcraft (WoW);
  • Postal - Replaces the basic WoW postal system. Tracks all your Alts, Friends and Guild Members allowing you to select user from a list as opposed to having to type the names into the mail box;
  • Carbonite 4.301 - A multi feature add-on. Replaces standard maps, provides a GPS/ TomTom type navigation system and a quest helper. The quest helper links into the GPS/TomTom feature allowing you to simply follow the navigation arrow to track down quest giver/items etc. Allows you to blaze through quests and level much faster;
  • Auctionator - This add-on makes the auction house easier to use. Scans the auction house listings in seconds and builds up a database of items and their prices. Data retention period is defined in the options settings and suggest you change this to 30 days. Track items prices allowing you to buy when they are at rock bottom prices and sell when they are at an all time high. Easiest way to make money in my opinion;
  • MikScrollingBattleText - Also known as MSBT. Efficient and easily configurable add-on that makes it easy to see combat information. Replaces Blizzard's floating combat text and damage output;
  • GTFO - Provides visual and audio warnings when you stand in bad stuff (Area of Effect damage);
  • SpellFlash + Bitten's SpellFlash Library - Flashes the spell and ability icons on your tool bars when those particular spells are off cool down and should be used. For example, will flash Mirror Image if you are in combat and the spell isn't on cool down;
  • Deadly Boss Mods Core - Boss mods for all raid bosses. Displays warnings about Boss special attacks before they happen etc. Also useful for PvP - shows health status of enemy gates etc.;
  • NPCScan - Tracks rare mobs by proximity and allows you to target them (set key mapping option via Blizzard's key mapping menu as by default it is not set);
  • Recount - Tracks Group, Raid or individual overall damage, damage per second (dps), healing done, along with a load of other useful stuff. .
  • RSA - Raeli's Spell Announcer. Easily configurable to announce spells to Raid or Group. For example, use it to automatically announce to the group every time you Silence mobs/boss;
Gathering Professions Add-Ons:
  • Archy -Archaeology Assistant. A nice easy to use add-on that automates a lot of the mundane archaeology tasks and provides a GPS/TomTom navigation arrow to dig sites;
  • Carbonite Nodes - Import via Carbonite Add-On. See aforementioned Carbonite 4.301 comment. Shows possible Ore and Herbs on maps.
  • Gatherer - Another way to track herbs, ore and treasure. Import the wowhead database (see below) for instant tracking. Otherwise it simply remembers where you last found items.
  • GathererDB (Database from Wowhead) - See above.
Death Knight Specific Add-Ons:
  • CLC DK - Suggested rotation for Death Knights.
Retribution Paladin Add-Ons:
  • CLC Ret - Also known as Retribution FcFs helper. Suggested rotation for Retribution Paladins;
Mage Add-Ons:
  • CombustionHelper (Fire Specialisation Only) - Tracks all Damage Over Time (Dots) effects on your enemy and suggest the best time to use your Combustion spell to maximise damage;
Healer Add-Ons:Rogue Add-Ons:
  • RogueRotationHelper -Suggested rotation for Rogues;
  • Poisoner4 - A add-on for lazy rogues. Apply poison to your weapons with the click of a button.
Transmogrification:
  • MogIt - Clearly shows what clothing and weapons will look like on your character. Has an in-game catalogue containing thousands of items.

Thinks that is all. Might seem a lot but the last 10 or so are class / profession specific.

      This is an introduction to weak auras for beginners. While the addon has definitely improved, I still find a lot of my casual friends becoming daunted of the addon. So I made this video to help them and others. Please let me know if you have any feedback. :)

      I've been playing with the ElvUI and recently started working on my Enhancement Shaman.  But I noticed that when I am in combat, practically every skill/talent I use shows up above my character bar in a series of bars, with listing each skill or talent I use.  I cannot figure out how to remove those as they tend to clutter everything up and I already know what I am using, so its unnecessary for it to be repeated in bars above my character.
      How do I remove those?  I've been trying to figure it out but the set for ElvUI is a bit confusing for me and I have tried a few things which I ended up reverting because I mucked up things.
      So have need of some assistance please.  I shall endeavor to go repeat this phenomenon and take a screen shot so you can see what I am referring to, and attach it when I get it.

      Edit:  Here is a screen shot showing what I am talking about.  Please note items inside yellow square on left bottom of shot.

      So I've been playing HS for around nine months but was never aware of the possibility of addons and plugins. I habitually use online tools to make arena decks but recently I was watching a few matches on twitch and realized people could see their entire decks, what they have used and not used while they play. Blizzard, i believe doesn't consider anything that can be done with a paper and pencil (and I guess a calculator) when done by an app to cheating.

      So my question is what addons and plugins does everyone here use and which ones should I start off with. I've heard of Hearthstone Deck Tracker and Hearthstone Tracker (are they different?) but wondering what gaps are there in my information and what I should be using.

      Hey fellow druids!

      I've recently switched from healing to Boomkin and started off in BRF.
      I'm pretty bad at tracking trinkets, weapons and general procs and I was wondering if anyone out there had:

      a) Weakauras strings that would allow me to track trinket procs and starfall uptime (I'm not too used to looking at my buffs so something big and in the centre would be ace)

      b) general tips for being a boomkin

      I think I have the prio system down but any tips would be greatly appreciated
      .

      Many thanks,
      Sylv
