First off, I kinda want to apologize to everyone who's posted in here in the past month or so, as you've posted and then have simply been waiting for a reply and none have appeared. It's too late for me to start tonight, and I work all day tomorrow, so I will hopefully be able to dedicate most of Tuesday to going back and reviewing/analyzing the logs here. Again, really sorry that I haden't done this sooner, and hopefully I can get most, if not all, of these done by Wednesday or Thursday.

I recently got back into WoW and made my first hunter about 4 months ago. I've been lurking here trying to figure out how to hunter and thought I had been doing a relatively decent job at it while I've been getting geared. Well, now that I'm relatively geared, it seems as though my DPS isn't any where near what it should be and I can't exactly figure out why. I'm pretty confident my rotation isn't terrible so I'm not sure what's going on.

Gruul (Heroic):

• Don't bother with using Explosive Trap on ST fights unless you're playing SV.
• 31/44 uses of Kill Command - Bring this up.
• 8/13 uses of Barrage.
• No potions
• You didn't line up Lub-Dub (Beating Heart of the Mountain) with Blood Fury.
• 0 uses of Bestial Wrath.  This is your CD as a BM hunter.  USE IT.
• Cast Focus Fire at any amount of Frenzy stacks during Stampede.
• 8/10 uses of Kill Shot.

Item Level 680, but wit wrong weapon, some off trinket etc.

Toughts: Just like to get some opinions. I am quite happy with the DPS, I will sort out the ringenchant missing. For some reason this log wont count forward the ranking. I got the engine kited into me and it knocked me back three times with me unable to get out..... well, standard pug thingy. Is there something I should work on?

Your armory link doesn't work for some reason.  Would also prefer to see Gruul (since it's less hectic), but BH works just fine.

• Don't bother with trying to Beast Cleave the seigemakers, just ST them down.
• 54/62 uses of Kill Command.
• 10 casts of Cobra Shot during Bestial Wrath.  Pool focus before going into BW, you don't have to use the BW reset as soon as you get it, make sure you're at 80+ focus beforehand.
• You should've saved BW + FF for when your trinket and racial came off cd at 4mins, the delay would've been less than 5s, so not a loss to have done so.

Heroic:

• 58/65 uses of Kill Command
• I do hope your second potion was a misclick, as it should have been saved for hero + stampede.
• Opener should be Stampede > Dire Beast + Trinkets + Racials > BW > KC > Procede.
• You did better at not using Cobra Shot during BW here (only 3 times), however, you aren't waiting so that you can use Kill Command twice within BW.

Can anyone take a quick look at my logs from my guilds last few attempts on Maidens to see what I'm doing wrong? It seems I need to do more, and this fight has my number.

 

I'm very torn on whether to ignore Kill command completely and save focus for Multi shot for Beast cleave, or try to weave it in when I can. I'm not sure the what the numbers would look like if I focused on having beast cleave up. I usually try to hit kill command and have BC fall off for a couple seconds.

Armory if you need it.. Trinkets are pretty bad, haven't had a chance to raid much as of late to get the trinkets I need. Only 2 piece set bonus, not 4 yet.

 

(I'm also on boat group, I'm sure hunters usually are)

I'd much rather see a kill than a wipe, so I'll analyze this log of yours (Keeping it maidens since that's what you linked).

• Use Focus Fire as soon as it's available during Stampede.
• You're not waiting until you can use Kill Command twice during BW, and are often using Cobra Shot during BW (pool focus before using BW, you don't need to use it immediately).
• 202 wasted focus, not horrible, but not good.

Sorry I can't help much here, I've not done Mythic Blast Furnace (my guild is stuck at Thogar atm), so I don't have any experience with the encounter.

Gruul:

• 47/58 possible Kill Command uses.
• Your second Agi potion should've been saved for your second stampede, and if you know that you won't get a second one, then for BW + 4-5 stack FF + execute phase.
• Gruul is a ST fight, Dire Beast should have been used, not Steady Focus (whose uptime was 46%, not good).
• Opener with SF is Pre-Pot > Pre-Cast Cobra Shot > Cobra Shot > Stampede + trinkets + racials > BW > KC > Barrage > Procede.
• Your first BW went like this: BW > Stampede + Trinket > KC > Barrage > Cobra Shot x3 > KC.  You should aim to never cast Cobra Shot during BW and always have 2x Kill Commands in BW.  Don't be afraid to hold BW back for 3-4s to cast Cobra Shot to get to 80+ focus before using BW.
• Multiple periods of focus capping, 244 wasted focus.
• 10/14 uses of Kill Shot.
• 15/17 uses of Barrage.

I see you commenting KC usage XX out of YY times. I'm guessing you calculate the time of fight / CD of KC to get the max number possible, or is it something simplier in WCL?

• I slightly disagree with the opener when you have the t17 4pc.  Personally, I go with CS > Stampede > GT (if talented) > Steady > RF + On-Uses > AiS spam and CS when its up.  This is to guarantee that your 3rd CS is used at ~13 stacks of Deadly Aim and hits with 14-15.  If it crits, then it's easily 250k+ damage.
• You misaligned your second potion, you should have used it with your second RF.

Thanks for responding! I tried your opener, and I feel like I might not have enough crit for it? Because it seemed like that 3rd CS never would crit. Though to be fair, I only tested it on a test dummy with no crit food buffs. Including LW crit bonus, I'm at 34%.

Yeah, with more crit it happens more often, and I'll admit I don't get it to crit very often myself, but when it does, it feels great.

No Advanced Combat Logging for resource analysis.  This ties into Kill Shot usage as well (back checking between enemy health % and then the cd of KS).

 

Fel Lord:

• 30/34 Chim Shot casts, not bad.
• Your second Agi potion was misused.  You should have saved it for Rapid Fire in execute phase.

Iskar:

• There's not enough adds up to warrant using multi shot.
• Again, Agi potion is misused.
• 40/48 Chim Shot uses.

Tyrant:

• 33/38 Chim Shot uses.
• Agi potion misuse again.

You want to align the second potion with other buffs to make the burst stronger.  In execute phase it helps also to buff Kill Shot.  The best time to use the second agi potion is with large buffs ie. Rapid Fire + Kill Shot phase.

Hey All. I just got back into raiding with my guild and have been concerned about my DPS. I understand that MM is the top spec for hunters this patch, but I have been BM since the start and am reluctant to switch until such time that progression requires it. With that being said, I find my DPS to be lower than expected in our raiding so far. I've come to the IV forums to see if I can get some advice on, primarily, rotation. I didn't have WoWLogs installed during our raid this week, so I went out and got it yesterday and ran LFR. I know this isn't exactly the best litmus test, but it's all I had in advance of next weeks actual raid. We are currently running on normal, and my ilvl is 689. Any advice and assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: Couple of quick notes - I'm aware I have no flask on and that I did't use pots during the LFR run. Didn't see a need to waste them on a LFR. Also, I typically have Iron Hawk as a talent, but with soloing stuff, I keep Spirit Bond active.

I'm not entirely sure which hunter you are in this log.  You mention both BM and MM in your post, but don't explicitly say which you are.  I looked to see if I could identify you by your ilvl, but without advanced combat logging turned on, this doesn't appear in the log.

General:

• Using 2x 2pc is a dps loss compared to using the t17 4pc.  The t18 2pc is incredibly underwhelming, and the t17 4pc is much better.
• Multistrike scope.  This is a no-no.  Change to crit scope.
• Do you have any better trinkets than MDST?  A Beating Heart of the Mountain of any ilvl?

 

Iskar:

• BARRAGE!  The only fights you should even consider using Glaive Toss on are Zakuun, Mythic Gorefiend, and Iron Reaver, and with the t18 4pc that list shortens to only Mythic Gorefiend.
• 44/52 Chimaera Shot casts.  This needs to be brought up.
• 81% uptime on ST is a bit low.

Iron Reaver:

• You delayed your first Rapid Fire for quite awhile.
• 24/28 CS casts.

BM on Kilrogg..... Alrighty then.

• 44/60 Kill Command casts.
• Powershot.  No.  Beast Mastery uses Barrage on any number of targets.
• Use Focus Fire ASAP when stampede is up, at any number of stacks when going into Bestial Wrath, and at 5 stacks of Frenzy otherwise.
• Over 400 wasted focus.  You're casting Cobra Shot way too much.
• You refreshed BW at least once.  Never use BW if it is already up.  Wait for the first to finish, cast 2x Cobra Shot to replenish focus, then use the second BW.
• A lot of Cobra Shot casts during BW.  This is bad.  You want to go into BW with ~80 focus, and if that means delaying BW for a few seconds to cast a few Cobra Shots, then delay it and cast the Cobra's.

Your biggest issues are focus management and BW.  Find some way to better track your focus and make sure you aren't capping for long if at all.

Looks pretty good from to me, not much focus capping, good usage of CS, and good uptime on ST.  The biggest issue I have is your trinkets are really meh.  Look to get a BHotM or a censer ASAP.
