6.2 Log Analysis Requests / Help my DPS Thread

Hey there,

 

We've been wondering why our mage is always doing such low dps. Given his gear he should be one of the higher dps in the team. Below i'll post a link to some of our heroic kill logs, feel free to look through them all and I'll post a link to the mage's armoury.

Oh, I guess, here even I can help you a little bit. 

Taking into account the guides' given at ice-veins, we can say that there is a certain priority of stats: 1. master 2. haste. Such dependence appears because of the need to have more mana (haste increases mana regeneration) and the need to make more dps. Mastery influences mage's dps: the more mastery and mana you have (mana in % - I mean, you can have 100%, 80%, etc.) the more dps you make. What is more, we should pay attention to T18: haste gives you more profit from setbonuses. More procs, more heroes, more damage.

Frankly speaking, your mage has nice stats, but judging by his chants and gems, I want to say: he might have problems with understanding these links between stat+passive abilities+spells.  

So, if we look at logs, we should look at mana + ammount of casts + average damage. 

And after a short look at the logs (I prefer watching Iron Reaver than Killrog 'cause of portals and switches, some mages just can play in one target) I see that your mage just presses less buttons. There is difference in time (you played longer, so your mage had to make more casts, but there is less). Ive been trying to get my DPS up. this pull we downed her i didnt get to pre pot cause the tank just went ahead and pulled. We didnt think wed down her.

Thanks for your reply Wicked, I had another pull last night and worked on some of the things you said I was up 11k from the log you analyzed but still am 20k off the top percentiles. How much is not having Mirror trink and legendary ring going to pull down my dps or even the Heroic Manna bow. I'm trying to at least be pulling top numbers for my gear and I feel like maybe the bow, trink and ring wouldn't make a 20k difference any thoughts? Heres my latest Council pull:

So I recently switched to MM hunter from holy pally( i know crazy ). but after playing wow for years i realized i never played a hunter and now im am really enjoying it. But after looking at my logs my dps is total crap so now i plee for help. I am a heroic guild with sites on mythic and i need to get to that lvl of play!

Hi, are there any tricks to using stampede? Because my fellow raid hunter and I are usually toe to toe on many things while being equipped similarly. One has legendary ring the other one a slightly better weapon etc. 
But my stampede does only about 50-60%  of the others dmg consistently while pulling them at about the the same time.

First option would be, pet spec, does it matter for stampede and if which should it be? Any other ideas why my stompy is being lazy?

@previous poster, depending on the encounter(e.g. vulnerability phases and timing) the legendary ring use alone can pull an > 10% dps increase

An 11k damage increase since the last time is pretty great and your Sniper Training uptime is now at 96%, that's where you want to be at 

 

The ring is, as MelkorX said, about 10-12% of you overall damage. The damage you get from Mirror of the Blademaster is very dependent on what kind of fight it is. On Reaver (the worst fight for Mirror) it's about 5% of my damage, on Iskar it's a whooping 12-15%. For Council it's usually around 8% for me, but considering that Mirror scales with weapon damage and my weapon is the lowest piece of equip I have, I'd say that it would be even better with your shiny new bow. (Congrats on getting that one btw  )

 

Adding that to your 60k on your last Council kill, you should end up with about 75k with both the Mirror and the ring, not too far off from the top percentiles

Honestly, I can't figure out where this discrepancy is coming from. For standard hunter pets you'd go for ferocity but I'm pretty sure that the spec doesn't matter for Stampede, since I once had a tenacity pet in there that did the same damage as the other ones. Maybe Othios has a clue...?

I just realised that the  legendary ring or none yet in my case may be the main cause for the discrepency. Since its usually used at the same time again as stampede. Though that only accounts for about 25% of the difference not up to 50%.

That was my first thought as well, but as you said, it doesn't add up. If I saw that correctly Donnerhuf doesn't have the ring either and he's not that far behind Hurps, so there has to be some other cause.

Yeah, Donners gear in general is still good way behind mine (5+ilvl). But hurps and I are pretty close with the biggest difference being the legendary ring which may be the thing that keeps all other attacks to average harder than mine despite my better bow. Ive had that stampede issue for a long while and am loosing my mind because i cant figure it out.

I noticed something. You have 2 different pets out during Stampede, Cusador and 4 Hyenas. Cusador is averaging 2k more per hit than your Hyenas. Take a look at both of those and see if you notice anything that could cause that difference. If you can't find anything, you should use the Stampede Glyph and make sure that Cusador is in the first pet slot, so that only replicas of him get summoned during Stampede.

 

I have no idea why that difference between the pets is there, since, as I said before, pet spec shouldn't matter for Stampede, at least from my experience. But it seems to matter in this case, for some reason...

 

Edit: *headdesk* The last time I had a tenacity pet out during Stampede, was back when I was BM, so with Adaption skilled, of course it would do the same amount of damage 
So, I guess your Hyena(s) are in cunning spec. Change that to ferocity and see if it does anything

Thanks for the interpretation, though its the other way around. Casa is the Pvp scorpion specced into cunning for RoS, while the Hyena is ferocity because its just there for stampede looks. I ill try around with  the specs a bit more.

Uoh, sorry, my mistake. I looked through that and thought I didn't see him in any of the other fights... Well, it was late at night yesterday, so I'll blame it on that

So, I looked at Council (I'm used to looking at Council now, so I'll just continue there^^). I saw that you died 20s before the fight ended, so the calculations are made with that in mind.

 

88.84% Sniper Training uptime

-> A bit too low. 90% is okay-ish, 95%+ is what you should aim for

 

30/37 Chimaera Shots

-> 2-3 more would definitely be possible.

 

4/10 Kill Shots on Gurtogg

9/12 on Blademaster

2/4 on Dia

-> You didn't start casting KS until Gurtogg was already at about 14%, that's why you lost a ton of damage there. Rest is okay.

 

- You wasted 166 focus

- You used Barrage on single target. Only use it when you have at least 2 targets.

Thanks for the advice, will work on keeping sniper training up more. I also made a cancel cast macro for kill shot:) good to know about barrage i thought it was just part of the rotation XD!

Imho a stopcasting macro for Killshot should be used with care since it can screw up your intended Steady shots if you attempt to queue a killshot to the end of it.

I have only been playing WoW for 3 months. Total playing time is 20 days plus some hours. Can't tell you why it took me so long to play but now that I do, I really love this game. This from an old D&D nerd from the 80s so there you go. My toon is Shandalia-Proudmoore.

 

She is a WW Monk and ilvl is 694. My DPS is horrible. I have watched videos, practiced on dummies, read icy-veins, and tried for hours to improve my DPS but cannot do better than about 20k.

 

In HFC on Normal during Assault I am lucky to pull 19k...two weeks ago that number was 13k so some improvement but not enough to keep from getting the boot (if I can even get accepted into a raid group).

 

I know that they have Nerfed BRF and in there I am typically in the top 5 DPS for around 35-55k on LFR depending on the day and the boss. I know it doesn't translate but it is frustrating to be at the top of the pugs in one raid and to DPS beneath Healers in another (not really but close).

 

In HFC LFR/Norm I am always in the bottom 3 or 4 of DPS...I know I suck. I just don't know why. Getting kicked from every raid group after one boss pull is getting old. The only time I don't booted is if one of my guild members is the Leader but then they are carrying me and it just feels lame. I want to progress and beat HFC on Normal before Legion comes out but at this rate I'll be lucky to see a boss passed Gorefeind. I do not want to be carried and my guild is running heroic where they asked me to join once and you can imagine how that went (we laughed at how often I got one shot). Needless to say, after 6 wipes we called it and I haven't gone back in there.

I know I have used barrage quite a few times single target just forgetting to aim it sometimes. and I think my kill shots and chimera shot use is pretty good also sniper training was at 95.12%. I only wasted 74 focus. I was using felmouth frenzy as food I'm not too sure whether that or crit food would be better. 

 

I have been a bit lazy when it comes to raiding regularly but am aiming to get into some mythic raiding before legion.

I'm going to disagree with your guilds strategy of saving hero for Dia and say that it should be used for Gutogg's 30% burn, as it's better to not have the max health reduction that he applies.  As for the fight itself:

• 38/43 casts of Chimaera Shot.
• You should have saved your potion for when you had both Rapid Fire and one of the bosses was around 35% for buffing Kill Shot.  Ideally this would've been your third RF cast, but it still would've been off by a bit, just try to keep this in mind,
• 9/12 casts of Kill Shot on Blademaster.
• 7/10 casts of Kill Shot on Gurtogg.
• 5/6 casts of Kill Shot on Dia.

The biggest help is going to be getting the t18 4pc, that alone is a 15-20% dps increase.

This was mostly a fun run for alts and the more casual crew of the guild i'm hoping to get into 1 of the main raid groups once my work hours change a bit in the next few weeks. I'm aware of the 4 piece set being a major increase in dps but just been having bad luck with rolls unfortunately. Thanks for the advice will try to keep better control of my potion use.
